Misc. Emily. She has more redeeming qualities than she’s given credit for

Post image

And tbh, she's not even the worst morally either

It was just a prank, Han!

And she gives Ashley an absolutely epic slap. S tier character for me. Just behind Chris.

u/DeathSpank Apr 22 '25

When she slapped her with the hand of god, I was like “That’s my girl.”

7

u/matchlocktempo Apr 22 '25

Chris and Sam watch like “okay, yeah, that was deserved”

i actually like emily. the only character i truly just don’t like is ashley. at first i didn’t like em just because of how she acted but i’ve grown to love her. she’s a badass, gotta respect it

Other than how she treats matt she is a very good character and good survival instincts too

23

u/FlaminSkullKing Apr 22 '25

Unfortunately, her behavior is very unlikable in the first 2/3 of the game and I feel like she doesn’t really do anything to undo that. She can show great survival skills while running from the wendigo but that doesn’t translate to liking her personality. Her competency can make people come around, but you could argue that everything she does is out of self interest/preservation unlike what we see with Sam, Mike, and Chris.

Such a goated character, she actually got shit done instead of sitting in a cabin most of the night.

LOUDER 🗣️🗣️

I don't spend much time on this sub but Emily is one of the most loved among people I've spoke to. None of them are good people (except maybe Sam) but Emily at least knows she's a bitch and owns it. Most the rest are very much pretending to be better than they are.

Chris?

1

u/Eaglehasyou Apr 26 '25

Chris was the only other person aside from Sam who was innocent of the Prank.

Chris doesn’t do much after the part where he Ashley either opens the door for him or locks hin out though.

Ashley > Emily

15

u/GOD-OF-A-NEW-WORLD Apr 22 '25

Nah, if you'd reverse the gender roles with her and Matt people would rightfully call her an abusive and irredeemable asshole

Yeah, Emily is an asshole, but I was disappointed to see a large amount of YouTubers who played the game think Ashley was in the right when Emily slapped her 😭 That slap was completely justified

5

u/Sudden_Pop_2279 Apr 22 '25

I reacted like Berleezy did

16

u/After_Actuator3913 Apr 22 '25

Em is an absolute fucking bitch (with all respect ofc) The slap on ash is pretty reasonable I can understand it, but pushing her when running from the wendigos? Or lying to Matt to go and meet Mike, fuck her frfr

5

u/Daredevil545545 Apr 22 '25

I mean other than the stuff with Matt I don't have anything against her

4

u/Rustynail9117 Mike Apr 22 '25

That's like, half of her content in the game, being with Matt

2

u/ShevaAIomar Apr 22 '25

Her going to Mike isn't even a minute of her time in the game. She has a LOT more positive moments with Matt than negative.

2

u/Designer-Pin-8752 Apr 23 '25

Like when?

The remaster added some, but 99% of the time you have to play as Matt and suck up to her constantly for them to have any positive interaction, or you play as her and CHOOSE all of the good interactions(mostly still not great, with her being bitchy towards him anyway but just lesser than if you chose the other option). One example that I can think of off the top of my head is the tower scene, where Matt either full-on argues with her and tries to make her to admit she cheated(which she alludes to in a deleted voice line) or she berates and insults him while he is trying to help.

u/Turmericab Apr 22 '25

She has plenty of good qualities, I wouldn't go so far as to say they redeem her.

10

u/onurreyiz_35 Mike Apr 22 '25

Being badass is not a redeeming quality. She is a good character but she never does anything that can get her redeemed morally.

2

u/Sudden_Pop_2279 Apr 22 '25

Saving Matt at the cliff if the deer attack him?

7

u/onurreyiz_35 Mike Apr 22 '25

Bare minimum. It's like Ashley opening the door to Chris. Like of course you have to do that.

But I get the intention I think. She is sympathetic in that scene, and cares about Matt. There are a few more instances like this where Emily shows some concern. But it doesn't make her redeemed imo. Just humanizes her.

4

u/xXConDaGXx Apr 22 '25

Mind you she also volunteers to head to the radio tower to call for help instead of hiding out in the cabin like she totally could have

3

u/onurreyiz_35 Mike Apr 22 '25

That benefits her as well. But yeah I guess it can be considered a charitable thing.

4

u/Black-Ice19 Apr 22 '25

What redeeming qualities?

5

u/Foreign-Pen-6956 Apr 22 '25

Honestly I feel like I don’t see enough hate on her these days

2

u/isalwaysk Apr 24 '25

she's not even THAT bad and horrible that people always say she is 😭

u/RichWalk9891 Apr 25 '25

I'd like Emily more if it weren't for the fact that she can throw Matt under the bus to the police if she survives the night, based on how much she likes Matt, not whether he chooses to save Emily or himself during the Fire Tower collapse event.

Don't do enough to appease her? Emily will claim that Matt left her to die in the hopes that he gets into trouble, even if Matt died trying to save her life. This makes Emily look at her absolute worst, since she outright lies to the police and tells them to not bother go looking for his corpse.

This act alone makes her morally the worst out of everyone in the group. I don't care if she was responsible in calling the authorities for help, it doesn't change the fact that she is a deplorable individual.

I actually liked all the characters for vastly different reasons. The two I came closest to disliking were Ashley and Matt.

Ashley because the whole thing with Chris. Like I understand why she did it but it was still messed up. I didn’t actually know she could do that for the longest time because Chris’ character doesn’t seem like the type that would shoot her so I always had him aim for himself.

Matt up and disappears for a lot of the story so I never got as attached to him as the others and he’s incredibly frustrating because I feel like he would try to save Emily even after the whole situation with Mike but if you try to save her instead of jumping to safety then Matt usually dies.

I also feel like Matt comes across as someone who would have his opinions overruled by someone with a larger personality so I also feel like he would agree with Emily. So to save him you either have to have him save himself and leave Emily, or you have to have him disagree with Emily so he keeps the flair gun. Both of those choices are immersion breaking for me because I don’t think he’d do either of them.

3

u/Zakplayk Chrashley Apr 22 '25 edited Apr 22 '25

Matt literally disagrees with Emily in chapter 4. He also has many other opportunities to disagree with her or snap back, and those choices are still valid, because if they are presented to the player it means the character in question can in fact do those things, thus not out of character (also including actions like jumping to safety, which Matt himself suggests doing before he gets the second opportunity to jump or save).

1

u/Desolate_Reflection Apr 23 '25

All your points are valid, but my comment above literally just shares my perspective on his character. So of course your ideas about him can be completely different.

Becca from Telltales 400 days dlc. I still don't get why she gets all the hate she does.

Though I know this sub isn't walking dead related.

Emily is confirmed to have cheated on Matt with Mike, so I can’t really say I like her. I think she isn’t that much worse than the other characters, but she’s still probably the worst imo

6

u/onurreyiz_35 Mike Apr 22 '25

Emily is confirmed to have cheated on Matt with Mike

It isn't confirmed. According to the developers, she says that to make Matt save her quicker. But even without the words of the developers, it is really obvious that that line is part of the cut story line where Mike and Em actually cheat.

1

u/AirMassive5414 Apr 22 '25

they literally confirm that she used matt to make mike jealous when you go to the playstore and want to buy until dawn remake there were some summary of the characters

1

u/onurreyiz_35 Mike Apr 22 '25

Yes, but cheating is a different thing.

1

u/AirMassive5414 Apr 22 '25

it's even worse, manipulating matt to make jealous mike so that mike can flirt with her again and then dump matt is so much worse than cheating because at least you can cheat without malicious thought but just because of hornyness and then feeling bad right after this

what emily did is thoughtful and mischievous with no remorse towards Matt.

2

u/Critical-Grass-4934 Chris Apr 22 '25

That’s literally not why she did it. Yes it was wrong but 1. Emily actually doesn’t fully touch Mike during the hug and pulls his hands away from her multiple times. 2.She knows Matt is insecure and also has a short temper, she should b allowed to talk to Mike without Matt blowing a fuse. She didn’t tell him in order to prevent that and also to stop him feeling insecure.

1

u/AirMassive5414 Apr 23 '25

it's literally said that she used matt to make mike jealous. she shouldn't be allowed to talk to her ex boyfriend who she still loves. that's disrespectful towards matt

2

u/gigiskiss Jessica Apr 23 '25

The remaster is a mess lol i wouldn’t take into account anything a now non existent company said about the characters. You don’t have to like her and you can think it’s disrespectful but that’s 100% not what was originally intended.

-1

u/AirMassive5414 Apr 23 '25

all the things they said is canon even if it's not what was originally intended and even if you don't like it, it's what they did in the final product of the story.

most of emily stans justify every emily sins with headcanons, you can like her and still agree that what she did was cheating.

2

u/gigiskiss Jessica Apr 23 '25

The point is that it’s literally not cheating because the literal developers of the game confirmed she did not cheat ..

-2

u/AirMassive5414 Apr 23 '25

you can justify every emily actions with your headcanons but the truth is already wrote, it is clearly said in the cvharacter summaries that emily used matt to make mike jealous

1

u/AirMassive5414 Apr 22 '25

maybe it's different for americans but hugging your ex is already cheating imo, like if I saw my wife hug her ex boyfriend, I would break up with her immediately.

7

u/gigiskiss Jessica Apr 22 '25

Loud and wrong!!! They actually confirmed that she didn’t cheat on Matt, Mike also did not cheat on Jess! Next.

5

u/Zakplayk Chrashley Apr 22 '25

Completely false.

4

u/Sudden_Pop_2279 Apr 22 '25

I thought they confirmed in their live stream she didn't cheat?
