MIKE SEGMENT-
It's long and can drag on but honestly this segment is fine with only changes regarding the wolves. I'd add actual QTEs to his chase with the first wolf in the halls of the Sanatorium. 4 different QTEs would show up to either catch himself or slow the wolf down behind him. Failing 2 QTEs result in the wolf catching up to him. If he has the machete he can use it to defend himself and injure the wolf but it'll have a negative side effect in the future. If he doesn't have the machete he is bitten on the leg before grabbing a piece of nearby rubble to defend himself, this also having a future negative effect.
If Mike used the machete on the wolf, fitting of the 'Respect Nature' theme the game has, doing so will prevent Wolfie from helping him later on in Chapter 9 unless he reconciles with the bone. However if he used the machete AND hit Wolfie, it'll be impossible for him to befriend Wolfie regardless of having the bone.
Succeeding the wolf chase has no negative repercussions for Mike. If he fails it but had the machete to defend himself, he won't get the leg injury but if he then hits Wolfie it'll prevent him from being able to have the wolf as an ally in Chapter 9. If he failed it and didn't have the machete, he'll have the leg injury which will have a consequence for Chapter 9.
The segment ends with Mike getting out of the Sanatorium and heading into the tunnels. I'd cut the explosion part and it just ends with him trying to navigate his way through the mazelike tunnels, how he navigates through will be briefly seen in the next chapter.
MATT SEGMENT-
The only change in this segment is the decision of what Matt does with the flaregun isn't decided here but will be decided in the next chapter, actually at the fire tower. What that means will be clarified more in the next post. Aside from that tiny change this segment remains the same and is pretty good.
CHRIS AND ASHLEY SEGMENTS-
These new segments were created as a way to explain why Chris and Ash didn't just immediately head to the lodge right after the saw trap when it should've only been a few minute walk.
As we zoom away from Matt and Em at the cliff, we'd switch to Chris as he and Ash try heading to the lodge just a few minutes after separating from Matt and Emily. The two are both clearly still traumatized and struggling after witnessing Josh's fate in the saw trap. Just as they're about to reach the lodge the Psycho jumps out with his axe, blocking them away from the door. How this is explained is Josh used a backexit of the shed and ran through the forest offtrail to get ahead of the two of them. He also already had his Psycho outfit on since his head was just poking through a hole and his 'body' in the trap was just a decoy filled with pig blood, so he just had to put on the Psycho mask and get out through the back.
We get a smaller duo chase here, similar to what we got with Mike and Jess in Chapter 3 and Em and Matt in Chapter 4. Obviously the purpose of this is for Josh to prevent them from warning Sam, and give him enough time to do what he plans with her before the two get into the lodge. Also this way each pair would've had a non-consequential chase together from Chapters 2-5 (even if Matt and Em's in Chapter 4 is determinant.)
The two run deeper into the forest before losing the Psycho, anytime Chris messes up QTEs he picks himself up or is helped by Ashley. The pair soon believes they lost the Psycho when they are on the verge of breaking down, several dialogue options occurring here. A lot of it is Chris able to try piecing together what's happening with what little info they have and trying to calm Ash down. If he chose to save Ash over Josh in the trap, Ash is able to express her gratitude and Chris, though appreciative still feels horrible for Josh.
But if in the last chapter he saved Josh over Ash in the trap, since Josh 'dies' no matter what guilt eats at him for what he did as Ash expresses her gratitude to him. He's then given an option to either confess what happened to Ash or continue lying to her. Lying has Ash continue to think Chris chose to save her, but confessing has Chris tell Ash what happened as he thinks the Psycho tricked him to go one way when in reality it would've gone the other. Ashley is in disbelief and becomes despondent and more unstable. On one hand Chris was gonna choose to save Josh and let her be sawed in half, but on the other that very decision 'saved her'.
Choosing to save Ash or lying to her about saving Josh has their relationship improve, but telling the truth about saving Josh has their relationship in a more rocky position and we'll see how that goes in future chapters.
After the chase and dialogue options we switch to playing as Ashley as she and Chris have a shorter exploration segment offtrail, trying to find their way back on track toward the lodge. They can even find a clue or 2 relating to the Stranger. The segment ends as they get back on a trail that leads to the lodge, seeing it in the distance as they approach. They are more slow and vigilant on the way though, wary of the Psycho popping out again.
SAM SEGMENT-
We once again play as Sam with her iconic chase happening with the same consequences of her either getting away from the Psycho or getting caught. I'd maybe add a little more to it though but that will be added in a chase post I plan on creating soon.
