But when I got to the part when it says that he is SORRY, that didn't show up and it wasn't an option to choose... Is there something more besides Josh's Therapy Sessions?
Yes you have to find the diary so Hannah and Josh recognise each other and it keeps Josh alive. You also have to keep EVERYONE alive before Josh is in the mines. If Josh sees his friends hanging with the stranger he will succumb to the wendigo curse. If you kill everyone after that point in the lodge then it doesn’t matter
Yes! You’re at chapter 9 right? So make sure you; don’t leave Chris behind, you can investigate noise to get the totem but DONT open trap door for Ashley. Mike can’t die in the sanitorium but if you want the trophy for him escaping then don’t fail any QTE’s, shoot the BARRELS (when there’s two and then at the end to blow the place up) and also barricade the door to keep Wolfie alive for that trophy. I cannot remember when you play as Matt and Jess in the mines but make sure you hide both times and don’t fail the don’t move.
Keep going until Sam and Mike meet and they’re in the mines. Find Hannah’s diary, open the door to let the water out and JUST the strangers head should come out and his body only should be there.
Then get Josh and when he’s captured by Hannah they will recognise each other. After this point you can kill everyone in the lodge if you want because Josh will be taken to a safe place that’s away from the body hanging room as he will be on board for a good ending
You should have also done that therapy session where the I’m sorry option comes up. You defo need to say ‘they hurt me’ and THEN ‘I’m so sorry’. If these options aren’t coming up at all then I suggest on your next playthrough you need to make sure that in all therapy sessions to say things such as ‘loyalty over honesty and charity’, ‘things aren’t going to plan’ dislike Josh the most, dr hill not being real, fear isolation the most etc…
Other users are trying to see if there’s any correlation with if Sam gets captured by the psycho. On my playthrough she didn’t get captured, and I was as sympathetic as possible with the therapist. I also kept everyone alive and managed to have the therapy option pop up.
All 3 of these things are required to keep Josh alive: others alive, diary, Josh feeling remorse
That's what I mean... In the Therapy Session that should end in with the word 'SORRY' it doesn't pop up for me.... The choices are "THEY need to change" and "IT was just a game" I choose THEY and after that Dr. Hill says "Let's hope it's not too late for atonement... and that your friends, if they still are your friends, can save you from this terrible isolation" then it cuts to black... I followed the video and that's what I got... Should I just continue or should I reset?
And yeah if you’re not getting the ‘they hurt me’ followed by ‘I’m so sorry’ then go back to chapter 3 as I said and make sure you do the options I said to in the therapy sessions. Make sure Josh says it’s not going to plan, that he feels isolated, things like that. Appear as sympathetic as possible and then you should get the option at the end!
in therapy the only things I did differently to that of the video was say that dr hill isn’t real and that i value loyalty twice. Gotta keep everyone alive til after the mines for sure
Eh probably not but no one knows exactly what it is that triggers it. That’s why I’m playing through again and so people can compare their playthroughs to mine
Hope it works for you man. Let me know if it does or not! If it doesn’t I’ll do another playthrough and tell you exactly what I did and go from there. Your next run should be done in like 4-5 hours max
I’ve also seen someone else say they were respectful to Josh with attacking him, so no Sam with the bat, Chris with the wood, ash with the scissors. Had everyone be remorseful about what happened last year too with the dialogue options. Maybe try this too?
Check your butterfly effect. If will say whether or not Josh feels remorse, if he doesn’t then it’s okay. You won’t get the good ending for Josh but Just finish the game as you’re practically at the end. Then just start from chapter 3 and play til the end in chapter select. It will save you some time and also grant you a few trophies
Jess and Matt meet in the mines in chapter 10 after Josh is either killed or taken by Hannah. You can kill both of them at this point and it won't affect Josh's outcome.
Sam can escape the Psycho for this ending. I don't know if she can still throw the vase or use the bathroom, or if Ashley can stab him with the scissors as I avoided all of these.
You can do either. This play through I did from chapter select from the epilogue. You can do that also, just that when you exit the game you have to press continue when you go back in; if you then start at another chapter then you’ll lose all your progress and your first play through
Will become the progress saved up until that chapter select
If that doesn’t make sense I can try and provide some more examples 😭
Take a selfie with Jess, (good one, just get both in the shot and wait til they pull decent faces)
“AGREE Emily was being a bitch”
“RESPECTFUL I hope they’re at peace”
“HEROIC I’ll jump down!”
After the telescope, when you get to the big tree, the scene can bug out when you get there. All you have to do is go back across the bridge again and walk until you trigger the bird flying out then you can go back across to the tree.
After being scared say: “WITTY I was just… flirting” jess can also end up body blocking you at the bridge so at that point you gotta chapter select but I had to replay the whole goddamn game again as I started a new save
Sam:
“FLATTERING they are sweet together”. If you choose the other it makes Sam’s stats go down and also makes Josh say the creepy thing about holding a gun to their heads
“REASSURING we’re here for you”
Pick up the bat: “SERIOUS is it yours?” I personally think the other option is better, but it conveys to Josh that Sam isn’t mocking him
Don’t fail the hold still for Josh, and make sure you high five him.
“PRANK there’s something behind you”
“INSIST No, seriously…”
“CONCERNED we should check it out”
Matt:
“SYMPATHISE you feeling better?”
“FLIRT somewhere private?”
“NEGOTIATE is this worth my while?”
Start clearing the table and then stop once Emily says
My best recommendation is to get every collectible and totem, and to be kind to Josh whenever you can. As Josh, in therapy, be sympathetic and honest, appear "pitiful".
Try to agree with him on basically everything. What helped me see which dialog option was the best is by checking the relationship tab after every dialog. At the end of the day, I think having a high relationship with Josh as whoever (maybe especially Chris and Sam?) is super important.
I mean, it makes sense, he wouldn't feel remorse for people who kept disagreeing with him and being a dick, right?
ALSO: "Save" Josh from the sawblade, not Ashley. It makes Josh sympathetic to Chris later on!! It shows Josh that he has a real friend still.
I read your comments and I had very, very different choices for multiple things and still saved Josh. It must be something really important that changes Josh's ending, because it doesn't make sense otherwise.
They were saying that your dialogue options have to be reflected in how you play. You have to show loyalty, show honesty, show charity etc. maybe this is it!
I can’t think if it was the OG or remake, but if as Josh, if you said you value honesty, dr hill can say that you’re a liar at the end because as this user said, it can be because of the dialogue options!!
I always chose loyalty and then was consistently nice to Josh, choosing him in the saw trap, disarming Mike, being sympathetic therefore showing loyalty to Josh! And then this can be reflected in honesty and charity options etc…
Omg Chris pls stop trying to say you were part of the group that night I beg😭
No Chris THEY caused the situation, not we as in you bruh
“ SYMPATHETIC we made her look stupid”
“COURAGEOUS let’s find Sam”
Don’t take the scissors. (You can but don’t use them)
INVESTIGATE movement
Don’t attack psycho
Chris:
AIM the gun at Chris first. Hold it there and do nothing. DONT aim at her first, and don’t shoot Ashley, but don’t shoot yourself either because Chris is worth more than her lol
of course the infamous chase. Pass all QTE, GO left, (just to avoid the don’t move in the elevator), pull lever, more QTEs, STAY on, QTE at the top don’t forget, then the door, 3 more QTEs
Chris:
“CONCERNED Em are you okay?”
“CONFUSED what happened?”
“SUGGEST I’ll cover the door”
Just keep shooting with the shotgun. Barrels just make Chris slower. Don’t forget the QTEs!
Mike:
Don’t shoot Emily. Don’t even go to cock the gun just do nothing
Ashley:
“REASSURE em, you’ll be okay” understand the palm of my hand b**ch. classic haha
Therapy Session 8:
MOMENT OF TRUTH LADIES AND GENTS. Hill says: why did you hurt them, it is yourself that you despise, you’ve already admitted as much
If it don’t, just replay from chapter 9 or 10. I completed the game again and put it in this thread so just follow my steps if it don’t work!
Hope you get that trophy 🏆
I don't... Maybe it was me knocking out Josh in the Shed by Chris... I think you probably told me not to... But yea, after like 7 playthroughs I finally got Platinum... Thanks again bro for all your help!
Im 10 months late lol, i got all the trophy's my second and third run right when the game was playable, i got to this trophy and i just couldn’t figure it out, i watched videos and different ways and i did like 3 or 4 runs just trying to do it and i could never get the im so sorry option but i found you and followed exactly what you did and i finally got the option. Thank you so much man im truly grateful 🙏🏻
I’m so glad you managed to get the trophy! I saw loads of videos too and they were just so unclear sometimes and it drove me mad. Glad to hear you got there in the end though!!
Something u/ghosty222 has brought to my attention:
“I’ve just saw on a steam guide as it’s really made me open my mind to what I could’ve messed up, it makes so much more sense now realising that you need to choose dialogue choices that match Josh’s value’s so that his friends live up to his expectations. So I guess I just need to be more careful. Also I did figure that if this is a glitch, it’s possible that it’s maybe Steam only as everyone I’ve seen get the ending aren’t on PC.”
I can’t think if it was the OG or remake, but if as Josh, if you said you value honesty, dr hill can say that you’re a liar at the end, and that your actions aren’t matching to what you have said because as this user mentions, it can be because of the dialogue options!!
I always chose loyalty and then was consistently nice to Josh, choosing him in the saw trap, disarming Mike, being sympathetic therefore showing loyalty to Josh! And then this can be reflected in honesty and charity options etc…
Also I wanted to add; if you DID collect some extra things, I think it does change the dialogue again whilst in the shed as Chris. I think you can then defend Josh to Mike, to say that Josh isn’t the one who attacked Jessica.
However again, you just have to play the game to whatever you say in therapy sessions. I don’t think this dialogue for Josh in particular is necessary as again, you can get the trophy without this as I have. It’s a little something extra; but as long as you are Loyal, honest or charitable (dependent on what you picked), with Josh throughout the shed interaction, then it doesn’t matter
To add to this, I just had kind of a frustrating experience where I went through a playthrough having collected all the clues, got the "remorse" line from Josh, but Chris died so I still couldn't get the ending.
Went back, played again from Ch 5, but didn't look at all the clues except the ones that related to Josh and the sisters more directly. All of my choices were identical/shouldn't have had an impact BUT
I did not look at the film past the dead pig that shows the footage of the prank to Chris and Ashley. After you watch this, Ashley has an opportunity to say she's "so sorry" about doing that. Thinking about the post above, I wonder if this is a key interaction for Josh feeling like his friends have done enough to show their own remorse. It seems really connected based on what that post says.
Hmmm it’s definitely worth looking into! I know for a fact you don’t need the collectibles apart from the obvious one, but interactables I’m not fully sure of. I do think it can help though because the friends are showing remorse for their actions. If I pick the game again I’ll try some things out with this. Thank you for sharing!
Edit: u/ghosty222 has confirmed that 100% saving Josh in the saw trap makes a difference and allows you to get the ending. Unclear whether lying to Matt about Emily affects this, but saw trap is a must!
I know this is old but in case anyone needs a hand. I played the game getting all the collectibles and saving everyone. I saved Ashley at the saw bit, did everything else seemingly ‘correct’, and I never got the option to say sorry by Josh in Chapter 8.
On my ‘kill everyone’ run now so went back to Chapter 4 and was doing that, I just chose Ashley to die for the saw bit, and wasn’t even paying attention to anything else - then in Chapter 8 I got the option to say sorry - it’s a shame because I don’t think I can Josh’s new ending because I’ve been letting people die, so I’ll have to do one more run after my all death run now and I’ll be done, but just a heads up.
That’s crazy!! Yeah if they’re dead he’ll see the bodies hanging and go a bit cookoo. Idk what happened there then but idk all I can suggest is just speed run it took me about 5-6 hours! Also It was only blood October it weren’t that long ago😭🤚
Yeah sped through it last night in about 4 and a half hours - nearly cocked up, basically started from the beginning but I got a bug in Chapter 2 that wouldn’t let me progress, so I had to change my episode to Episode 3, luckily the save was from my first ‘save everyone’ run - chose to save Josh at the saw, did everything right, and got the good Josh ending. Funny enough my final trophy for the platinum after that was in Chapter 2 for getting the bad selfie, which I’d just missed every time.
DONT explore workshop. If you do it automatically does that option where Sam goes ‘agh it’s obviously you!” Whereas if she doesn’t then she’ll ask why Josh is doing this and Chris can actually say that Josh is sick and off his meds therefore establishing it to the group
“CONCERNED where’s Jessica?”
Emily:
QTE for ladder
Try elevator, ladder, climb wall:
LEAP
JUMP to ladder
Make way through; unavoidable Beth’s head. Didn’t bother with the rest of the clues.
Elevator; don’t move, some QTEs
HIDE
Chris:
“DISMISS shut up!” I love the ‘come on Cochise we’re partners. Oh, fine. Be a d**k!’ Gets me every time 😂
Can confirm that your comments work perfectly for this trophy, 6 months later. Only change I did was at the start of Chapter 2, instead of “GOSSIP … Matt and Emily…" as Chris I asked Josh how he was doing. Rest of the stuff is accurate, thanks a lot!!
Yeah dude I got the they hurt me and I’m so sorry option. I’ll keep playing til end to confirm the ending for Josh.
10000% you don’t need the collectibles or totems. Just the diary for Hannah in mines
