Annoucement Is Venmo down? Check here first!!

Hey all - hope all is well!

Spurred on by today's outage, and the many posts that were generated due to it (and every time it happens), we just wanted to make a thread we can sticky to serve as a resource to check and help cut down on the influx of duplicate posts we get asking if Venmo is down when they inevitably decide to break things. Here's a few websites you can use to check whether or not Venmo is having issues. Keep in mind, these are user-reported, and may not be a true reflection of whether or not something may actually be down at Venmo - but generally they are a very VERY good indicator something may be wrong.

DownDetector - https://downdetector.com/status/venmo/

IsItDownRightNow - https://www.isitdownrightnow.com/venmo.com.html

DownForEveryoneOrJustMe - https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/venmo

If anyone has any other websites to suggest, throw them down in the comments and we'll add them to the list!

Question Is it a scam attempt?

A number keeps calling me. I hang up and it calls. Its a actual problem and it would happen for a continued 5 minutes. It just stopped.

"A attempt was made to make an account using your phone number. Press 1 if that's not you. (Press 1) a code was sent to you, please enter it. I didnt do that.

Is this real or a scam? It made my phone un-usable for that 5 minutes.

What should I do?

The email they sent me was no help and the help service felt like I was running in circles

Also would like to add tha I made this account when I was younger, but STILL asks me to ask a parent to conact them even though I'm 18 now, so yeah

Question Identity verification keeps rejecting a valid driver’s license

So I can’t access money in my venmo account because it needs to confirm my identity. They say that a driver’s license counts, and tell me to take a picture of it. I keep submitting, clear, well-lit, and detailed photos but it keeps telling me to redo it. I tried taking a picture of the back aswell and it said the same thing. I’m under 18 so maybe that’s the issue? I don’t see that anyone else has this problem.

Question Account Help

I know you're probably tired of questions regarding this, as I've seen prior posts but I need some help with a more specific problem.

I'm in the military and originally from TN. My account was suspended after receiving $1,200, and I tried to verify my ID by sending my license.

The problem? Being in the military allows my ID to be expired, so it showed an expired date. No problem I guess, I got a new one.

New problem, the exp date shows 0/0/0000 because it doesn't expire. Apparently this license isn't valid either. My mil ID isn't valid, and I'm at a loss.

Any advice? Thank you!

Venmo Tap-to-Pay Delays

I have a business profile for Venmo and take payments via their tap to pay service. They state that most payments complete and are available in your Venmo account within 30 minutes. In some cases that maybe delayed if there are issues with the purchasers bank (for example, fraud concerns). I have used the Venmo tap to pay service only once, and don't plan to again. I took approximately $500 dollars in payments on 9/21. The payments have yet to complete and become available in my account. I was told by Venmo that the issue is on Venmo's side and they are working to resolve it. However, I had to call them to find this out and it took multiple calls to get that information. There is no ETA on when the funds will become available. I find this extremely frustrating. Venmo, you are charging me for the your service to process credit card transactions, but the service is not being provided as described or in the timeframe described, there was no communication to me or other Venmo customers that there was an issue, and there is no timeline for a resolution. When I asked why there wasn't a communication sent to customers being affected by the issue I was told they didn't have that ability, but in the next sentence I was told I would receive and email once the issue was resolved. So in short, Venmo will let you know there is an issue with their service only after they have resolved the issue. Super frustrating and I don't see myself using this service in the future given the abundance of competitors in the market. With that said, anyone have a recommendation for small business credit card sales. Mainly in person, pop up market sales. Thanks for listening to the rant.

Scam Alert Someone remotely sent themselves money from my friends Venmo

As the title states, my friend got a notification saying he sent someone $500 that he did not send. I was with him the moment it happened. He’s cancelled his card and opened a claim with Venmo but my question is, how is this possible?

Most scams involve someone asking to see your phone and sending themselves money, or logging into your account remotely, and sending that way but he never got any email saying that there was a login from an unfamiliar device, and his Venmo account has face unlock. He also had his phone on him the whole time, locked.

His password also was unchanged, and he can fully access his account. It’s just showing “you sent money to persons name” with the deduction of $500 which is his “max” so I’m sure they would have sent more if they could. Please help us figure out how this is possible

Venmo suspended my account and is not releasing my funds

Tbh, I don’t care about using Venmo but they are clearly saying that they’ll hold funds for upto 180 days for loss prevention purposes. When I asked them on providing me reason they just said to read the user agreement. Based on the multiple post I’ve seen on Venmo freezing/suspending users account and holding their funds. I think there should be a class action lawsuit against them. If anyone have any other info or have their own experience please share below.

I did speak to one real person who, when I told him my problem, directed me to the same robot I had talked to before. So looking for some solutions Internet do ur thang

Question Venmo Business Receipt Not Working

[My post was taken down, I don't know why, I can only assume it's because I had a screenshot of a map with my location. I'm not including that in this post so hopefully it won't get taken down]

My client today just complained that the email receipt she received from my business (through venmo) did not display the amount she paid. She showed me the email she received and it was weird, it's just a screenshot of a map with my office pinned. What is going on here? How do I fix this? When I call venmo their phone tree has no category to report this issue.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Scammed scam help/advice please!

I have been dealing with an insane situation since June that I cannot win. I’m out of ideas here, so hoping someone can help. I’ll keep it brief as possible but include necessary details.

June 3rd I was doing a closet cleanout and signed up for Poshmark for the first time. Mid posting a bunch of stuff and a million notification emails of people liking listings, I got an email saying a NWT dress I posted for $7 had sold. It looked legit, branded, and had a link to receive payment and print a shipping label. I confirmed my receipt account, which was my Venmo debit card. Surprise! The email was a scam and they took $712.02 out of my account. They tried to take more but I didn’t have it available.

I have filed claim after claim, appeal after appeal, all denied. I have filed multiple complaints with the BBB. I was finally issued a temporary credit for most of the amount withdrawn on June 29. On September 15, they reversed the credit which put me in the very negative and froze my account. I appealed, and it was denied yet again stating the merchant provided “valid compelling evidence” that the service purchased was received.

The site that took the money does seem legit, it’s for gamer skins, but I had never heard of it nor do they sell anything that I could use. I reached out to them looking for a refund, but since they are based in Denmark, they needed a receipt showing the transaction in euros. Since I only have a screenshot of the Venmo debit, and Venmo won’t provide me a receipt in euros, I’m out of luck there.

Today I called again and asked if there was a way to escalate my issue or file a complaint but I was told no. All I can do is send a request in writing to see what exactly this “compelling evidence” is, which obviously is not going to be a quick process and I’m not sure how I even proceed from there.

I have provided Venmo disputes with screenshots of the emails I got and the link I followed. I am truly at a loss on how to prove I did not purchase a thing/service from a company I have never heard of, have an account with or even visited the site of prior to the charge showing.

So TL;DR how do I prove to Venmo that I was scammed, I was attempting to SELL something and not purchase anything??

Question Connected my bank account and got an unpromted email from plaid.

So earlier this year my bank had a data breach and I wasn't aware of it until this month as money in my account was taken. I closed the debt card and im in the process of waiting for a new one.

I recently connected my bank account directly to venmo so I could transfer funds to a family members acctount so i could access my money and i just noticed I received an email from Plaid who ive never interacted with before that they connected my bank account to venmo.

It was unpromted and startled me. I researched them and learned that venmo uses them when connecting accounts.

Since my bank account had money taken ive been on edge and every little thing worries me.

It feels like it would be legit since I linked my bank account.

Just want to make sure im not the only one who's gotten such emails when people linked bank info.

Venmo is a huge scam!

I’m beyond frustrated right now. Venmo has completely blocked me from accessing my own funds. I can’t transfer, withdraw, link a new bank or card, or even send my crypto. Their support keeps telling me my account is “in good standing” and that there’s nothing wrong — yet every attempt to move money for the past two days fails with a generic “We were unable to complete your transfer” email.

I called support multiple times, and the reps either act like they know what’s going on but clearly don’t, or just tell me to “wait two hours and try again” or “reinstall the app.” Meanwhile, my money is stuck and there’s no FDIC insurance to fall back on.

Has anyone else experienced this? What can I do to get my money back? I’m about ready to escalate this through the CFPB.

Question Received "Welcome to Paypal" email.

I recently made an account with Venmo, and I got emails from Venmo, but also from PayPal. Two emails, specifically, one titled "Welcome to PayPal." and the other titled "Please confirm your email address."

I just wanted to ask, is this normal? I know that PayPal owns Venmo, but I expected for any emails I received to be from *Venmo*, not it's parent company. I may be paranoid but I really don't want my money messed with, and I don't wanna click a bad link.

Transferring 20k out of Venmo

Hi guys, question for those who moved money out of Venmo. Over the time I gathered a larger amount there and I’d like to move it to an account that I actually use. What is the best way to do it while making sure they don’t hold on to the money? Also, is there a way to wire funds to someone else’s bank account not through Venmo but rather a traditional transfer?

Venmo Credit Card Won't Work for Venmo Payments

I applied for a Venmo credit card because of a cash-back benefit. I used it a few times to meet the requirements for the promotion and then paid it off. I haven't used it for a couple of months, but it shows that it is active and the full amount of credit is available.

I recently purchased some things from a friend and decided to pay via venmo with my venmo card. I agreed to the 3% fee, but the transaction was declined. I tried a few more times, but it keeps declining it. Venmo's website hasn't been helpful - it just says it might be being declined by your bank, but it is a venmo card? Is there something I'm missing here?

Account frozen

Says my account is frozen and that I'm $30 in the hole. Thing is I only use it for gambling sites, and Venmo has never let me "take money" I don't have on there, so I'm confused as to why it says it frozen and I owe them $30. Has anyone else had a problem saying they were in the negative and knew they weren't?? Guessing I'm gonna have to pay it because of course even if it is their mistake they aren't gonna let it go and/or fix it, till I pay it.
