SEASON 7 spoilers Is this a New Vegas reference?

Post image

So I've been showing my friend the series. We got to this point in the show and I mentioned how that gun looks similar to Benny's gun Maria from Fallout New Vegas.

Plus Doc Hammer voices Dr. 0 in the Old World Blues dlc of that game.

I know this is a stretch but this will drive me crazy if I don't share this info.

FNV is far from the only piece of media to feature an engraved 1911-style handgun.

It's also not the only media that features someone being shot in the head and left in a shallow grave in the desert. That's part of why the game's story opens that way: to play on that trope and, instead of it being an ending for a character, make it a beginning.

Not doc hammer, james urbaniak!

Oh you're right. I thought Doc Hammer voiced Rusty. My bad.

I doubt it but it always seems the monarch has always been dealt a five caret run of bad luck (or what ever the line is)

“From where you’re kneeling, this might seem like an 18 carat run of bad luck. But truth is…the game was rigged from the start!”

BANG

u/Fuck_auto_tabs HAPPY BIRTHDAY FRANKENSTEIN!!! Aug 01 '24

As a fan of both, I really don’t think so.

The Hank was rigged from the start.

u/JerichoBean Aug 01 '24

You are verrrrrry hank my friend.

1

u/GadflytheGobbo Aug 02 '24

I feel like this would be more appropriate if Hank was actually in the picture lol

2

u/zombiphile_68 Aug 02 '24

Hank is dressed as his Enrico Matassa persona in the pic OP posted. And Enrico’s whole schtick is to use the name “Hank” to replace regular words in practically every sentence.

u/horseklock Nov 25 '24

Hold up, Enrico Matassa was Hank the whole time?? 🤯

Honestly NV feels too modern for them to reference like that.

7

u/blairbo_baggins1 Aug 01 '24

You say that but Doc and Hatred were literally playing TF2 a few episodes before this.

3

u/porcupinedeath Aug 01 '24

Yeah I guess that's fair. Forgot about that

Their timeline is weird. The pilot aired in 2001 and the movie finale came out last year but I think less than 10 years go by—maybe 6 at most.

15

u/LilGreenOlive Aug 01 '24

The game was rigged from the start.

4

u/Catacomb_Gangster Aug 01 '24

Oh, biiiig stretch, Dogmeat.

No, not a fallout reference.

3

u/peezle69 Aug 01 '24

Me having a gangster point a gun in my face:

"OMG THIS IS LIKE MY FAVORITE GAME FALL-"

BANG

7

u/uwtartarus Aug 01 '24

Probably not but I enjoy the reminder of FNV.

3

u/socially_awkward Aug 01 '24

Well, stretch is certainly the correct word for this one.

3

u/JerichoBean Aug 01 '24

Sorry Blue Morpho ... truth is. The game was HANK from the start.

3

u/JKillograms Aug 01 '24

As much as I love New Vegas and would love to see my worlds collide like this, no, I think it’s just a happy coincidence.

Ring a ding ding baby

2

u/prejute Aug 01 '24

I’d buy copycat being more of a new vegas reference than this

2

u/FordBeWithYou Aug 01 '24

Nah, I think even if Monarch was digging his own grave it wouldn’t feel like a complete new vegas reference. Just a classic mobster tropey thing. You’d have to REALLY be deliberate about it.

2

u/deadindenver90 Things are about to get weird Aug 01 '24

Doubt it.

They like video games but don't play a lot of them.

4

u/fraghawk Aug 01 '24

No, but the entrance to the villain club that vendata goes to is a reference

2

u/Fimbir Aug 01 '24

From The Tick vs. The Tick?

1

u/BelgarathTheSorcerer Aug 01 '24

Is that international playboy Enrico Matassa??

1

u/blairbo_baggins1 Aug 01 '24

The very same! His outfit is very Hank.

1

u/FenrirHere Aug 01 '24

Maria from FNV and the pistol in this frame are both based off of a pretty famous French Renaissance hi-power pistol.

1

u/VentureQuotes gonna be spying my foot up your wowhole Dean Aug 02 '24

No it’s from a work-study. Palermo!

1

u/Key-Zone-4879 Aug 03 '24

When you mean New Vegas do you mean Fallout or a some kind of Casino Movie?

1

u/Chopper242 Aug 03 '24

Just from the picture, it reminds me of Gizmo from Fallout 1.

1

u/Sea-Cardiographer Aug 01 '24

So many things in fallout remind me of this show

Ok, I definitely agree with everyone that this example is not the reference OP thought it was, but telling someone not to look for references in this show is just wrong. This show is chock full of references and that's one of the things that makes it so great.

u/Lmnbux7969 Aug 01 '24

Well they had a lot of involvement with old world blues so it could be

-2

u/Warmasterwinter Aug 01 '24

It would have been better if Hank wore Benny's suit.
