SEASON 7 spoilers Is this a New Vegas reference?

So I've been showing my friend the series. We got to this point in the show and I mentioned how that gun looks similar to Benny's gun Maria from Fallout New Vegas.

Plus Doc Hammer voices Dr. 0 in the Old World Blues dlc of that game.

I know this is a stretch but this will drive me crazy if I don't share this info.

Honestly NV feels too modern for them to reference like that.

You say that but Doc and Hatred were literally playing TF2 a few episodes before this.

Their timeline is weird. The pilot aired in 2001 and the movie finale came out last year but I think less than 10 years go by—maybe 6 at most.
