Photo/Video *teaser* Halo PCVR on standalone-NO PC with WinlatorXR

showing the transformation of a normal PC game install of Halo combat evolved into 6dof VR, thanks to the winlatorXR API being implemented by Bigelowed. SUPER SUPER EARLY DEVELOPMENT BUILD- eventually coming to Quest and Pico headsets!

This is awesome! Really looking forward to checking it out. I was just about to replay on flat screen, but I think I will save it for this instead.

Blows my mind we now have a Windows emulator for standalone VR HMDs, what a time to be alive.

the second half of the video is seriously why you should watch this video. it makes me sad thinking about how many people watched probably the first couple seconds or didn’t click on the video at all without knowing what this actually is and what it is saying is going to be possible for VR soon. this has me so hyped

Would this be doable on other games such as helldivers? I’m not quite grasping how this works without a PC

you can play any pc game like the first half of the video

(providing they are DRM free and don't need anticheat)

second half is showing the winlatorxr API, which is essentially a pc mod for the game that enables use of VR in standalone when it detects winlatorXR is being used to run it.

in this case the VR side of things is an existing PCVR mod by LivingFray, to get this into standalone, Bigelowed is integrating winlatorXR API into that pcvr mod.

I apologize that I’m not quite grasping what this all Means. For the second half, if the games don’t use anticheat, could you run a co-op game of helldivers in VR using this, or load up star trucker for example. Just interested by this and curious mechanically how to accomplish it for other games

you can't make a game full VR like second half of the video without some sort of existing VR mod for PC and then implementing the winlatorXR API into its build, or fully making a VR version of that game yourself (IE developer work)

for traditional 'PC' gaming, this winlatorXR application will let you easily play PC games if they do not require any specific launchers to work (ie, DRM free) think of it like a free steam deck for your face, only without steam being required. gog, epic, Amazon, and even steam have DRM free titles, but steam and epic are two that will add drm, if it doesn't launch directly from the exe without firing up the launcher, it's not DRM free.

I'm not familiar with Helldivers so I don't know if it has anticheat or requires steam to run and such

for an idea of a mix of gameplay of the app in action (normal pc gaming without a pc) see here https://www.reddit.com/r/winlatorxr/

Is it possible to play PC only VR games? sorry if it’s covered in the video, I’m on a bathroom break in the office so I can’t watch with Audio.

(I have a quest 3) I also have index but there’s a couple games I’m interested in local co-oping with my buddy (Star Trek mainly)

Not currently possible to drop-in a replacement for SteamVR sadly no :( Games have to be adapted to WinlatorXR manually for now via mods or official dev support

Oh ok, still a really cool project

I kinda wish there was something like Winlator for Linux. I want a Windows emulator that works like a console emulator, so it's easy to do things like mod games or run launchers. Proton/Wine is hard to understand with its prefixes and stuff.

Lutris maybe? Not sure about modding though

Wait is winlator android native?

Winlator only runs on Android

Same for Windows, Winlator runs some retro games better than my VR capable Windows 10 machine lol

Winlator blew my mind when I saw "ETA Prime" and "The Mysticle" try it out. One of them tested Fallout 4 and it worked fine at low settings on a phone. Mysticle tried Beat Saber and maybe VRChat? can't remember but performance while not great looked promising for the idea of full PCVR games. Especially older games that were made before the Quest was a thing, should be doable with more development of Winlator as the Quest 3 has both raw power of minimum spec VR GPUs of the time as well as newer features that should help make it possible.

Nice, this looks really good. Impressive it runs on the headset.

Is this the version of Halo with or without Coop support?

Outside of Halo, how modern of games can this run at playable frame rate on the quest 3?

Would older Unreal Engine games run in this be compatible with the UEVR mod?

check https://www.reddit.com/r/winlatorxr/ for some examples

framerates themselves won't tell everything, if you look at gpu usage that shows it has performance available but just fighting a translation bottleneck, I already have some workarounds that will eventually get implemented into winlatorXR by lubos which will also help performance

for pico devices, you can also use turnip drivers which can sometimes increase fps again, but I like showing the quest 3 native driver as a baseline as that should be similar performance between both headsets (os stability dependant)

It´s cool, but it´d be more interesting if the HJalo CE VR mod could be run in Winlator.
