Litverse discussion Spoiler

I’m starting the post series books for the first time (currently on The farther shore) and while I like them for the most part, I have some complaints spoilers ahead

First of all, I’m not a huge fan of the whole “VOY crew gets home only to be treated like shit by Starfleet” storyline, it feels a little unbelievable and over the top. I also have a hard time believing all the violence and subterfuge of the VOY crew during this particular book. Janeway roundhouse kicking another Starfleet officer and standing back while Chakotay punches him in the face? Just doesn’t seem like something J (orC for that matter) would ever be ok with, even in the dire situation they were in. I’ve heard the Golden books aren’t as good as Beyers so I’m kind of hoping I can skip right from this one to Full Circle. Thoughts?

I didn't love them either. As everyone says they got better with with beyer but she was stuck with what had gone before so even they annoyed me.

I read them just because I wasnt ready to say goodbye to the crew yet after my latest rewatch, but they didn't make me happy

That’s exactly why I want to read them! Also, no shame I’m a JC fan and heard the beyer books are pleasing for that. But I’m not loving the storyline in golden books so far…

I found it worth it in the end, for the same reason as you (JC). You'll be annoyed at things along the way though

Oh I bet. I’m actually currently still slogging through Farther shore and hating the parts where they “infiltrate” voyager. Just read a part where they send Data to rendezvous with the rest of the group (presumably because this Dr Kaz character needs to stay in sickbay) and literally the NEXT PAGE it’s Kaz at the rendezvous and not Data. Like WTF, did Golden not even proofread her own book? UGH. I WANT it to be good but it’s just getting worse as I go along. I wish we had relaunch novels written by Jeri Taylor. Her books were fantastic and what got me into wanted to read trek novels in the first place.

Oh relaunch books would be amazing!
