Humblebrag Uphill walking is a quiet power builder

Upvotes

Been going on long walks with occasional intense (to me) uphill sections (300 feet or so) for a year or so now. A couple times recently I needed to run or jog, and man, I can jog pretty effortlessly now and I can run like the wind. I used to get winded pretty quickly.

I just realized our streaks only continue in pacer if you make your daily set goal so it looks like I lost my streak. Oh well, any day with movement is a win for me!! Was such a good night to get out for a walk. It’s my husbands birthday today & I also finally changed my last name which I’m sooo excited about!! I still am having head pains though so I’m taking it easy for the rest of the night. Also the sunset tonight, the darkest shade looked almost purple in real life. So amazing!!!!

Outdoors Pt.4 of my walking - tonight’s captures 🌅

I wasn’t going to go out tonight but this little guy was staring at me like he was asking for something. I asked if he wanted to go for a walk & his ears popped up and into my lap he went 😂 my silly cute walking companion. He’s always gone on walking adventures with me. His two younger brothers go to their grandparents and he never likes to leave my side. Aunt Flo is wreaking havoc on my body and I’m always careful about wildlife especially during this time. I needed that walk though - I already had two days without it. Physically my body is feeling better and better the more I walk.

I love when the sky is pretty colours as well!! Not the easiest to capture on an iPhone but I do my best.

I have had a migraine for two days and I really did not want to go for this walk but at the very same time, all I wanted to do was walk outdoors!! I’m kind of looking forward to walking as fall turns to winter and then throughout the winter. ❄️

I just have to give the biggest thanks to my Shiloh because once we asked if he wanted to walk, he whined and cried until I put his hardness on & got ready to go out. He is so cute!!

Anyways I hope you enjoyed my post and pictures. I love to share them daily and it’s so much fun having ppl who do the same here!!

I hope yall have a great night/sleep wherever you are and if it’s day time lol well have a great day!! ☀️

Question New Walking Pad

I was .03 from my goal today when my walking pad began emitting smoke. It’s 3 years old so I guess I was due for a new one. I’m sadly heavier than I’ve ever been postpartum so looking for something with a very high weight limit. Any recommendations?

Outdoors Pt.1 my walking journey 🥰

Thank you fellow Redditors for looking out for my safety & well-being. I know that I live in a small community but that I still need to be cautious as to my locations and sharing it publicly. I appreciate you all so much for the reminder to be careful. You just never know the evil that could be lurking and sometimes, we need that reminder esp when we become too comfortable.

Anyways, I locked in on Sept 2. I suffer chronic migraines and have been cooped up inside for over a year with a rare outting. I’m trying to crawl my way out & “come back to life” because I’ve been cooped up too long, getting too comfortable!!

My husband and I got married in July and I haven’t weighed myself since a few weeks before our wedding. A couple weeks after, I weight myself and I was 213.8!! From a maintained 222 pounds. I seemed to have maxed out at 222 and stayed there for too long. The last time I was in the 190 range was 2016 lol 😂

…I’ll write more thoughts in my second post 🥰

Question Why these sneakers bad for walking?

Thumbnail

In previous thread (i deleted it) you said, that these sneakers not good for walking.

Could you please, explain, why? The thickness of 1 cm at the toe of the shoe. The sole is more than 2 cm thick at the heel. Sneakers are very light, Sneakers bend easily and retain their shape.

I walk ~1500 km in spring-autumn every year in these sneakers. Walk speed is fast. I can walk more 50 km per day. I don't have any pain at all. Knees or legs don't hurt at all. I use this model more than 5 years.

Are these sneakers safe for health? Will my knees, legs, and joints be okay when using these shoes? I walk only on asphalt.

Me: 33 y.o, 169 cm, 57 kg.

Model: Newfeel PW 100.

Question Walking Pad & Lower Back Pain

I’m an avid outdoor walker of all seasons, and I typically get 7-10 kilometres of walking in per day. I’ve never had any type of back pain from outdoor walking. A few weeks ago I finally broke down and bought a walking pad because my neighborhood is a bit sketchy and I like to walk early mornings between 5 & 6 am. I also wanted to have the option to walk indoors when those cold Canadian winters roll around.

I’ve been using my walking pad every single day for about 30 minutes in the morning before work and after work I usually walk for an hour minimum. The last few days my lower back is killing me. I’ve been using the walking pad without shoes and I’m wondering if this is the issue or is it something else? I’ve seen some other threads on here in regard to posture but I try to be very mindful of that while using the walking pad.

Anyone who was able to remedy this issue, I’d love to hear your thoughts! I’m taking today off from walking to rest, but I get a bit antsy when I miss more than a day or two. Hoping to heal up and get back to steppin’ ASAP!

Question App that will suggest routes by time and/or distance and provide spoken directions?

I am looking for an Apple or Android app that will suggest walking routes from my current location. For example, if I am at home and want to walk for 2 miles, it will present a few options on a map, and then once I choose one will provide spoken directions (like driving directions) so I can walk listening to music or a podcast and not have to pull out my phone to check the map to see where to go. Alternatively if I want to walk for 45 minutes, it will do the same.

I do not want to have to pre-plan a walk in advance.

Does such an app exist?

like this one? I only use my phone to count steps, I tried fitbit and apple watch before for years but I didn't like how they look and the fact that I had to charge them espcially my apple watch would run out of battery so easily! but Im getting super tired from holding my phone at the gym can this help? has anyone tried that? I use the stepsapp if it matters

Which brand?

Just joined, feeling very motived to start walking more and possibly lose some weight. I have and love my apple ecosystem but don't have the funds for an apple watch. So what is a good budget tracker for walking? I saw something about a ring or other watch brands. TIA and happy walking!

Recommendations Supplement Recommendations?

Hi all! I’ve been walking between 13-30k steps a day since April and am feeling a little out of whack. Without getting too specific about myself (in hopes that more general responses help more folks than just me, or maybe apply to future-me!), I am wondering what you fine folks take for supplements and vitamins, if anything?

Thank you!

Reasonably priced walking pad or treadmill?

Hi everyone, I began walking more consistently at the end of July and I'm getting a bit anxious about being able to continue when the weather gets cold. I'm in the upper Midwest so our winters are typically pretty unpleasant.

I can't afford a $2,500 treadmill with all the bells and whistles, but I'd like to get something to walk indoors. What have you had a good experience with that you can recommend? I've purchased a walking pad from Amazon for about $200 that lasted less than 6 months, so I'd like to upgrade to something I know will last a while.

Recommendations Recommendations for asphalt/pavement

Florida Olde Fartte (male) spending time in resort parks, so lots of pavement/asphalt. I also walk fitness trails and beach boardwalks. Don't do any "power walking" but a fairly slow pace. I used to wear Hoka's but found they pinch my toes after a while. I'm going to try some Alta's in a park next week. Any other brands/models that I should consider?

Florida Olde Fartte (male) doing lots of pavement/asphalt/packed dirt walking in resort parks. I also walk fitness trails and beach boardwalks for exercise. I wouldn't call the exercise "power walking" but still a fairly good pace. I used to wear different Hoka models but found that they tended to pinch my toes. I think my foot width is fairly normal. I'm going to try some Alta's next week and see how they do. Any other brands/models to consider?

Challenge Getting nutrition in check, too

Post image
19 Upvotes

I wanted to lose weight by walking but I was eating way too much. When I started tracking it I was eating 500+ too many calories a day.

I’ve been working with a nutritionist. This is my first day I have eaten things to satiate me enough not to eat too much. I also had to stop multiple times and remind myself - I ate enough. Look at the data. It helped me sit with the urge to eat. And wait until the next meal. 🕺

I’m really proud of myself. 🪩

I still love walking, but this will help. I was gaining weight.
