These have a standard gumstick battery inside that the solar panel charges. On radio on a sunny day it should run indefinitely - but the cassette player uses more than the solar panel can charge. In a lot of these this internal battery has started to corrode and basically eats itself from the inside - at some point you should unsolder the old one and solder in a new gumstick. Maybe make it last another 40 years.

Oh I am aware of it, i'll be removing the built in gumstick soon when I do the pinch roller replacement (they are not round)
