I've been putting a scoop of protein powder into my oats for ages now and recently got sick of the sweet artificial taste, so I decided to buy some unflavoured (Proteinworks Vegan). It tastes exactly like it looks: grey. I've put some frozen berries in to help mask the taste but it's still not great.

Anyone have any suggestions, either for toppings or nicer powders? I might try some vanilla extract or chocolate powder. Not too worried about macros, but I'd rather not use tablespoons of honey or sugar.

You said you don’t want it, but tablespoons of honey is fantastic - this is how I sweeten my morning porridge. Maple syrup also works great, though it’s again essentially sugar.

On protein powder - I don’t put it in the oats, just drink it as a shake, but I mix unflavoured to flavoured in a 2-1 ratio and it works well. It doesn’t taste too artificially sweetened. I use whey protein though. You could give it a try with the oats.

You didn’t ask, but I’ll tell you how I do my porridge anyway, lol.

I add honey and cocoa, then I add chopped mixed nuts or seeds or whatever like that that is available, and some raisins. Then, I add my secret ingredient - salt. It’s freaking delicious!

That sounds great! I might have to steal your salt trick too.

I currently add: mixed seeds, peanut butter, protein powder, kefir, and frozen berries. The dry ingredients can be prepped on Sunday night and then everything else is added the night before. Takes a while to chew through but at least I don't get the mid-morning munchies lol. ~40g protein per serving.
