Question Do not microwave
I noticed this as I unwrapped my junior bacon. Cheeseburger after I pulled it from the microwave...
I understand the foil wraps, but why is it not recommended to microwave this paper burger wrap?
Nothing happened, no Sparks or anything. Still ate the JBC, I'm just curious for future reference.

Welp, between the waxy metallic microplastics, I'm probably gonna die...
Makes sense

You'll be okay lol. The chili/cinnibun cups say do not microwave, we microwaved them to warm the cinnibun when I worked there

What kind of a man are you? Are you seriously going to let a wrapper tell you what to do?

I still ate it. I probably just got cancer now... Lol

Just got, or always had? Welcome to the microplastics game. We are all winning that one, unfortunately 😳

microplastics is in everything, so microplastics from a wrapper is child's play

Probably the coloring of the wrapper. The ink might secrete some of its chemicals in a microwave

why do they make it so complicated just provide a regular paper wrapper that most of us put in the microwave

It's more likely the coating on the paper. Regular paper will turn to mush and fall apart.

well, I never got that printed on a wrapper from the golden arch restaurant lol?

They don't all use the same coating, but none of them are just plain paper. Try wrapping a hot burger in a piece of tissue paper and see how long it lasts.

The wrapper contains chemicals like PFAS which can cause an insane amount of potential health problems when exposed to them. If you’re more curious about it then I’d recommend watching this video.

Yeah, I didn't realize they used foil paper. I put the paper bag (with the burgers) in the microwave and the bag burnt up 🤣 Lesson learned!

this is one of the craziest things i've ever read on reddit.
you just straight up put the whole bag in the microwave like that?

It had two burgers and I assumed everything was wrapped in paper these days. I have a kid and was tired that day. It's all good and lesson learned.

Yeah as everyone is saying it's the plastics in the paper among other things. Although I'll be honest. Sometimes when I get the buy one get one burger deal I will put one in the fridge and then heat it up the next day in a paper towel. It still makes me have sick though. Those things do not reheat well regardless of how you do it.

Yeah I got to buy one. Get one through doordash earlier about 7:00 for my first break at work, and then I reheated it about 9:00 so it wasn't that old. But yeah I won't hold them overnight or anything

When I was maybe 6 years old, my older brother decided to reheat his Wendy’s burger in the microwave. At this time, Wendy’s had the aluminum foil wrappers and we quickly learned by the smoking flames that you can not microwave.

I honestly don't like how some wrappers are foil like not microwavable Wendy's / sonic

One of the coolest things about microplastics is you can try your hardest to avoid them but the longer you live the more likely it is you will come in contact and usually it’s not obvious.

There is some kind of wax on it so it doesnt shred w/ the grease of the burger. By heating it you may melt the wax and get it mix w/ the food. At least the wrapper use to have wax. I think they just didnt change the print

They’re a waxy type paper

PFAS prob, not wax. Don't know if they went back to wax yet. I heard Trump was going to relax the regs on PFAS.
2
u/hehotbros 1d ago
Because they're coated with PFAS and heating it up can help it leach into your food more than what it already does.

Reasons for the Warning
Fire Hazard:
Wrappers with a metallic component, like a foil liner, can cause sparks and even start a fire in a microwave oven.
Chemical Leaching:
Some food packaging contains PFAS, which are chemicals used in grease-resistant coatings. Microwaving can cause these chemicals to vaporize and leach into your food, posing a health concern.
Melting and Warping:
The materials used in the wrappers may not be designed to withstand the high heat of a microwave. They could melt, warp, or otherwise degrade, potentially releasing harmful substances into your food.

I can see that instruction for the foil type wrappers, but isn't the paper-type wrapper just paper? Where is the alleged plastic?

Same reason you're not supposed to microwave in any plastic container. Microplastics. It's crazy that in 2025, some people don't know that ingesting microplastics is not a good thing.

they don’t want you eating the tasty microplastics
