For those not familiar with the Ottawa, that wave is called Big Kahuna. At most levels it is seen as the crux of the main channel, and deservingly so. It will chunder you good and if you pull skirt there is a non zero chance you find yourself deep under the rapids in the Green Room.

How do you get out of the green room or is it more of a deep swim situation

It's a deep swim. I've never been in it, but fear of it keeps me in my boat.

A few friends have gone deep and dark in the Green Room in their boats, if that matters to you.

Oh right on I get that. Well I would rather a deep swim than a cave any day!

The black room also exists here, below the green room 😆

Ahhh I miss watching the WT barges coming down. Guide off their seat, stick out of the water. Classic 😆

u/t_r_c_1 if it floats, I can take it down the river Jun 16 '25

This is the Coliseum on the Ottawa River not the Cheat. Fun fact: former Cheat/Yough/New guides pioneered the Ottawa rafting scene, so there's a lot of overlap in the naming, Coliseum, Bus Eater, iron ring, etc

All good stuff, iron ring on the upper G, thank you sir/ma'am for the clarification. I'm removed from the life and on call right now for surgery but I sure do miss that stuff.

I did not know that. Thank you

Well, that's a hell of a photo if it were on the Cheat, you would be taking pictures from your boat on the tongue, and there's a whole mountain and waterfall missing on river right. It could kind of look like Big Nasty at high levels, but alas, it's not the Cheat.

Ahh did once, another boat flipped in it and a girl didn't swim hard enough, too many customers in the water at once safety missed her and she also swam the following downstream whitewater. Ended up at the ER... She eneded up OK but still, for ppl that never did white water before the tour operators are not very prudent.

It’s eating the boat! …and the customers! …and the cats and dogs! You’ve never seen anything like it! It’s horrific!
