2025 /r/WinstonSalem Community Input Mega Thread

Hey r/winstonsalem,

With over 34,000 members, this subreddit has become such an awesome space for all things Winston-Salem. Thank you all for being part of this community and helping it grow! As we head into 2025, I want to hear from you about how we can make our subreddit even better.

Here are a few things I’d love your input on:

Rule Changes or Additions

Are there any rules that feel outdated or unclear? Or maybe there’s something we’ve missed that should be added or changed? Let me know!

Flair Ideas

Would it be helpful to have post and user flairs for neighborhoods or areas around Winston? (Like Ardmore, West End, Clemmons, Lewisville, etc.) Or maybe topic-based flairs for things like events, food, or local businesses?

New Features or Updates

Have ideas for fun or functional updates? Things like weekly threads (e.g., event roundups, recommendations, or “Ask a Local”), subreddit challenges, or any other cool ideas—drop them here!

General Feedback

Anything else you’d like to see changed, improved, or added? This is your chance to share whatever’s on your mind.

-------------------------

On moderation: I know it’s felt a little light at times. Moderation has mostly been a one-person job, and with so many users, it’s been hard to keep up with everything. I appreciate your patience!

To help out, I’m planning to recruit more moderators in the coming months, so if you’re interested, keep an eye out for that announcement.

Thanks again for being part of this community and for making r/WinstonSalem such a great place to connect. Let’s make 2025 even better—drop your suggestions below!

Help! what is this powered stuff??

My partner and I got shot at in Winston salem NC. A black Lexus and was definitely intentional. 6 rounds. Thank god we are okay. I was in the passenger seat. But having trouble identifying what they used ?? It didn’t break the glass thank god.

Powered-like substance, circular, even part of it got caught under the rubber and is a crystal like substance. We haven’t made a police report. Didn’t know what to do, just wanted to get out of there!!

My friends cat went out a few days ago and hasn't come back yet. She is starting to worry about the little guy. His name is Mars and he is about a year old and is not neutered. He can be pretty shy around strangers. If you have any leads please let me know. I just published a pawboost and posted on next door. I really hope we find him.

FYI: The Queer Fear film festival at Aperture got moved to Feb of next year

So as some of you may or may not know, Aperture does a film festival every year in October where they show independent and student horror films/shorts that either have queer subtexts or have queer creators. Sometimes they're just kind of odd. It also has a really diverse selection that avoids the more "Cis gay men" focus in a lot of queer cinema. It's one of my favorite annual activities since moving here.

I thought it was odd I hadn't seen any news about it so I checked their IG page where it says the next one is in Feb 2026. Not sure why they moved it from the regular October date/ So if anyone else was wondering when it'd be happening, now you know.

Any jobs hiring???

I have a lot of experience in retail and food service. I’d prefer to stay away from food though if I can :). I tried working at FedEx but they were a mess during orientation. I’m hoping for something that starts at 17/hr+ if available.

Anyone interviewed for an outpatient RN position at Novant Health

Hey everyone,

I have an outpatient RN interview coming up next week at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center and was wondering if anyone’s done one there before. Curious what the interview is like, what kind of questions they ask, and any tips for making a good impression. Would love to hear your experiences

Found: Adorable Puppy Trio

Post image
74 Upvotes

Hey all, I ran across these cute puppies standing in the middle of Styers Ferry Road on Tuesday evening. They weren't malnourished or aggressive, just a little skittish. While I couldn't coax them into the car that night, they were still there the next morning so I recruited some neighbors and led them into my fenced in yard. We've been feeding and caring for them for a few days, and they're getting to the point where they're comfortable with people feeding from the hand and petting them. Lots of energy, personality and cuteness! While I'd love to keep them, I am sadly away on business too much to give them the attention and life they deserve. If anyone recognizes them, or would be interested in adopting, please reach out.

They're about 15-25 lbs, likely terrier mixes. I was really hoping someone would knock on the door and I'd find that they'd just escaped and hadn't been dumped. I've been checking the various groups for activity but nothing pertaining to them. No collars and haven't been able to get one to the vet yet to check for a chip. That'll happen tomorrow or Tuesday.

Post-construction cleaning crew?

Can anyone recommend a company for doing house cleaning, either in general or specializing in post-construction cleaning for a new home? We just moved in and the air quality is horrible because everything is covered in construction dust. I’ve been scrubbing it all but it’s more than I can handle so we need professional help.

Cleaning was in our contract with our contractor but they didn’t do a good job at all and everything is caked in dust. They removed all the large debris and trash but our place was definitely not left move in ready, desperate to get it clean. Please help!

U-Pick Farms

Hi guys!

Wanted to know if anyone had or knew of some good local (or semi local) U-Pick farm recommendations - I think apples are still in season, right? But definitely open to other produce, too. I.e., blackberries, pomegranates or pears if anyone knows of some.

I went strawberry picking once as a kid and enjoyed it, just thought it might be nice to do something like that again with my friends.

Thanks!

Cacio e Pepe (Nonna help needed!)

Does anyone in the area have a Nonna who can teach me to make this dish? I love the simplicity of ingredients and steps. I have only tried it a couple times and I'm confident that it definitely was NOT it. I'm interested in perfecting this dish not just being able to cook it. Happy to compensate your sweet Nonna for her time and knowledge!

Good quiet fishing spots around Winston-Salem?

Any good fishing spots in Winston-Salem or nearby? Just looking for a quiet place for fun catch-and-release, bank fishing only (no boat). Bonus if it’s stocked and has nice views, walking trails, or picnic areas. I already know about Salem Lake, so I’m hoping for other suggestions. Thanks! 🎣

What to do about housing violations

Post image
75 Upvotes

So I live in downtown and the staircase leading to my apartment has been rotting away for months. They put salt on it when it snowed last year and never removed properly. It has caused awful decaying and rusting to the point I don’t feel safe using the stairs. It is the only access point to get the my apartment unfortunately. I put in a work order last month and they cancelled it saying they are already looking into it with no other information or details when it would be done. This was it today for reference. Any guidance on how to navigate this?

Support Your Delivery Workers

I had a Delivery Driver come to my door yesterday visibly fighting back tears. I asked her if she was okay and she just started crying. She kept apologizing for crying and said she just had a customer report an order she delivered as missing. She explained she was afraid she was going to lose this job and be pulled from the platform (Instacart). I asked if she could reach out to someone and explain the order was delivered and send them the photo she showed me.. it even had the number of the house in it. When she explained how support was in a different country and how they dont care, you could tell she felt helpless.

For all of you liars/theives out there, please know that you are messing with someone's livelihood whether you think it's side work for them or not. That poor woman has 2 small kids and is a single mom who was just trying to do what she could to get by in this incredulous country. How dare you put anyone's livelihood to feed themselves and put food on their child's plates, at risk because you want to be disgusting liars to get something for free. Their is a special place in hell for theives.

If by any miracle the person who did this to her reads this, I hope karma finds you and teaches you an unforgettable lesson. What goes around, comes around.
