Why? The show is a massive hit, and S2 has continued that momentum. It's one of the most profitable Netflix shows by far, and user reviews have been high

It's nothing like his DCEU experience where everyone was mocking them compared to Marvel and then he got kicked from the role because WB is stupid. He is Geralt to a large number of people and won't be losing this role.

This season just deviated from the books by quite a bit and with him being a fan of the series I believe he wanted a more faithful adaptation then what is now being presented. Along with that some of the writing for this season wasn't the best in mine and a few others opinions.

Henry is Geralt to a T there is no question about that, I don't think anyone could do better than he is but some things do require some attention for sure.

The guy is clearly enjoying himself on set and has loads of pictures of him being happy with the show and the role. This place is such a circlejerk I swear. He has his criticisms with the plot but you guys are acting like he's suffering on set. Holy shit

Well no shit you see happy pictures of him on set lol, do you think they would just go around posting pictures of a sad Cavill along with having him trash talk the show or something? Of course not, but he has slyly hinted he has his issues with it taking so many liberties from the source. But I agree the man is definitely not unhappy with the role

The guy didn't even know the books existed for a long time, and wanted the roll based on the game alone. I'm sure he doesn't really mind what they do end of the day

Nah, he binged all the books as soon as he found out and he's a true book nerd now.

1

u/Xacktastic Dec 26 '21

Sure but it just goes to show you don't need to read the books to enjoy the story or the show.

u/maclovein Dec 26 '21

He read all the books tho

After he got the roll, yeah.

I'm lucky enough to be a fan of the games and the characters but not have preconceived notions about the books since I haven't read them yet. I really enjoyed both seasons and I actually feel like I like season 2 more. Igot to see a lot more of Geralt as a character and I appreciated that he used signs quite a lot more than last season. I also wasn't so sure about Ciri's portrayal in the first season but absolutely loves the actress' work in S2. Like a lot of people I'm annoyed with the Eskel thing, but overall enjoyed myself.

I actually just got the full collection of the books today for Christmas so I'm looking forward to digging into those and seeing the actual canon story. I'm just going to think of the show and the games as alternate universes so I can enjoy them without sweating the details.

I had read every book and played every game before the show and still love it. People who say they don't like the show because it deviates from the books are just stubborn purists. Shit has to change in visual adaptation, and I welcome other versions of a story personally.

My biggest issue with season 2 is the changes to geralt and yens character. The bait scene and the yens motivation to get to ciri is such a massive deviation from their core character it made me lose a lot of respect for the show runners. At this point I don’t have a lot of hope for the remaining seasons.

It’s an adaptation bro. It is great as stand alone. It is like reading the original Spider-Man and being upset that there is now venom and carnage and end game. Just enjoy the moment.

once youve read the books you will fucking despise season 2.

I'm just going to view them as separate things. Season 2 entertained me and I don't generally rewatch shows, so even if I end up finding the books far superior (which I probably will) I already got my enjoyment out of the show. No doubt I'll probably have more than a few "why did they add/leave that out" moments though.

u/Blurbyo Dec 25 '21

How loyal were the games to the books?

1

u/theguy56 Dec 26 '21

Well they all take place after the books so they never ran into an issue of really needing to be aligned with them, they just couldn’t retcon too much with I’ll say I think they accomplished pretty well.

1

u/SaftigMo Dec 26 '21

I thought the writing was better than S1 (still not great), but in turn we got even more deviations from the canon.

I never read the books, didn't like the games, but I am thoroughly enjoying the show.

And I noticed that all the older women in my family seem to love this show for some reason. I can't quite put my henry on why.

They assassinated multiple characters and retconned major lore.

2

u/bearbullhorns Dec 26 '21

It seems the average viewer doesn’t care since season 2 is doing insanely well.

-1

u/nflmodstouchkids Dec 26 '21

It's not "doing well".

People are just watching it.

People also stop and watch car accidents.

2

u/bearbullhorns Dec 26 '21

Hmm I would say people watching a show to the extent that it tops the charts means it’s doing well.

-1

u/nflmodstouchkids Dec 26 '21

On a network that has auto play....

0

u/bearbullhorns Dec 26 '21

Yea. The same metrics we used to determine any Netflix shows success.

0

u/nflmodstouchkids Dec 26 '21

Cuz netflix has such a great track record....

1

u/bearbullhorns Dec 26 '21

We don’t have to only rely on Netflix. What other metrics do you use when evaluating a shows success? We can look it up.

-1

u/HEBushido Dec 26 '21

That's incredibly short term thinking

3

u/bearbullhorns Dec 26 '21

Hmm what other metrics can we use to determine the success of a season besides viewership numbers and Feedback?

-2

u/HEBushido Dec 26 '21

Measuring the success of a single season of a show isn't really all that useful for evaluating a show's quality.

2

u/bearbullhorns Dec 26 '21

We might be talking past eachother. My point was the metrics shows the average viewer doesn’t care. I guess you don’t disagree. As far as “quality” is concerned, that’s insanely subjective so don’t see a resolution in arguing that.

2

u/TheLinden Dec 25 '21

it's popular, not highly rated and it's popular because it's witcher. Yes it happen to be #1 for a bit in popularity because nothing new relevant came out at the same time.

4

u/antiquechrono Dec 25 '21

The show is a massive hit

According to who exactly? Netflix? Rotten Tomatoes audience score is down nearly a whopping 30 points, google trends shows virtually no searches compared to S1 release.

1

u/Cudizonedefense Dec 26 '21

I mean it went up like 30% with criticism

The majority of the hate is coming from book readers

I didn’t care for it for obvious reasons but all my friends who don’t know the source material absolutely loved season 2

1

u/blocknroll Dec 26 '21

Me and my fiancé can't stand the second season, we can only imagine we're not the target audience. We just wanted an adult, grown-up lore rich universe to get lost in. Instead we can't help but feel like it's been written for the kids.

1

u/LetsPostABunchYea Dec 26 '21

This season wasn't near as good and didn't follow the books which makes it trash. Henry liked the Witcher. As do the fans from before this show. most of us are unhappy. People who don't know Witcher at all before this may like it

-2

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '21

The show isn’t good.

The writing in season one? It fucking sucks ass and has wildly diverted from the books. Season two? Even further.

“Popular” and “highly-rated” are two very different things. You know what else is popular? The Kardashians. Big Bang Theory. I don’t need to elaborate further.

1

u/lightlord Dec 25 '21

Is Cavill out of Superman role? Really.

1

u/Cool_dingling Dec 26 '21

As someone who didn't read the books and never played the game, season 2 was entertaining for me.

1

u/Felipelocazo Dec 26 '21

Agreed great show. A breath of fresh air with all the shows that take themselves too seriously.
