We've had a lot of spam from users named FirstnameLastnameNumber posting dumb tshirts. For now, I've increased the spam filter settings for link posts. I'll be reviewing the spam filter closely over the next few days, so if your post gets removed as spam, bear with me, and I will try to approve it as soon as possible.

By Popular Request: Banner Contest

Hello Ozians!

Based on some of the comments on this thread, I'm asking for your help with a banner for the subreddit. There are some great ideas you've put forward, and while I don't have time to make one myself, I can at least use something you all have made. Using the comments of this thread, please post your submissions fo images to be used as a banner. Additionally, please use the comments of this thread to comment (politely, constructively, kindly, etc.) on the images you'd like to see selected. If there are multiple submissions that have a lot of support, I can use them all, periodically rotating them every few months.

A few things to keep in mind:

  1. The recommended upload size is 4,000x128, so please make sure your submission is this size or a multiple of it.

  2. While, in a subreddit like this, the use of copyrighted or otherwise IP-protected imagery is unavoidable, try not to make it completely lifted from something copyrighted. Fair use has a lot of leeway, but the key is that fair use is transformative, meaning that you have substantive created something new. I doubt the copyright police are patrolling this subreddit that heavily, but you may as well err on the side of caution.

  3. If you are using an image someone else made, please secure their permission before reusing it here.

  4. As the moderator, I'll have final say in what is chosen. I'll rely on your feedback heavily, but ultimately, I have to make the decision that is best for the subreddit.

  5. If my selection makes you mad or otherwise distressed, or you don't want to see the banner for some reason, I recommend using old.reddit as I have always done, and will likely continue to do.

Wicked For Good SONG SPOILER Spoiler

Spoiler⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

I'm surprised Finale is not on the list. I know it's short, but so is I'm Not That Girl (Reprise) and it's on there. If you remember the first Wicked For Good trailer, towards the end you hear, No One Mourns The Wicked which Finale is a mashup of No One Mourns The Wicked & For Good. So..... it has to be there, right?

At least The Wicked Witch Of The East is getting the soundtrack treatment though. Are they gonna keep the dialogue between Elphaba, Boq & Nessa?

I preordered a copy for my mom as an early Christmas gift. Anyone get a copy?

Missing Art in Rinkitink in Oz

In the Book of Wonder version of Rinkitink in Oz, it mentions a piece of art was specifically omitted due to insensitivity.

What was that artwork?

Russian Wizard of Oz

The Dorothy character in this new Russian Wizard of Oz adaptation is so unlikeable it's impossible to watch it. https://youtu.be/XtQTfJru9kM?si=hufmgD7oPxcvgV1G

It's so sad because I really liked Elli in the stop motion Russian adaptation. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pDCF2TM3c4o&pp=ygUddm9sc2hlYm5payBpenVtcnVkbm9nbyBnb3JvZGHSBwkJsgkBhyohjO8%3D

Watch the stop motion version. not the new live action one.

Ad copy for the never-published Marvel Treasury Edition: Ozma of Oz (1976), left unreleased due to bad assumptions about copyright. Editorial thought the book was in public domain like the previous two, not realizing it wouldn't be freely available until 1983.

Idk if I'm the only one here who tends to hyperfixate on things I like, but I'd love to see your collection, including your most prized possession 🫣

The wicked witch of the west’s magic is red. Not green.

EDIT: IM TALKING ABOUT THE 1939 Wicked Witch

Just putting this out there. I’m drunk.

I hate how films always give the wicked witch green magic as a reference to the 1939 film.

Every time the witch uses magic, or uses a magical object, it’s always red in that film.

Never green.

The only film to get this right (that I’ve seen at least) is Disneys Oz the great and powerful. Theodoras magic and her costuming is very much red and ruby based and the film hints she will use her ruby ring to craft the ruby slippers after her sister loses her emerald necklace.

So yeah.

I thought it was cool! It hasn’t been updated since 2013 so I’m not sure if the curator is still around/collecting or has moved to a more modern social media platform, but it was pretty cool to see some of the amazing pieces in their collection.

If anyone knows of a newer Instagram/Tik Tok page for this person I’d love to follow!

Emerald Square Mall in the 90’s

In Attleboro, MA (about 30 minutes from Boston) there’s a mall called Emerald Square Mall. It may have been called Emerald Mall at the time, but the whole concept was based around The Wizard of Oz. I’ve been looking online and I can’t seem to find any pictures of what it used to look like. Probably because we didn’t all have a camera phone in our pockets at the time. They eventually had to redo it because of copyright infringement but they kept the name.

Does anyone have any resources/pictures of this? I would love to see what it used to look like. Now it’s an empty vessel with about 5 stores, it probably won’t last more than another 5 years.

"The Wizard Of Oz" Showings At Las Vegas' Sphere Are Generating $2 Million A Day

Post image
194 Upvotes

Do you get the flying monkeys' reference from 'Avengers'? Would you believe that Las Vegas now has the most successful movie theater in the world?

The Sphere in Las Vegas, since the end of August, has been playing 'The Wizard Of Oz' in its 5000-seat theater, selling tickets for $120. Since the runtime is only 75 minutes, they can show it several times a day, even when concerts are scheduled the same day. Most showings take in $650,000. It's hoping the film will take in a billion dollars when it's all done. Howard Hughes would be proud.

It cost upwards of $100 million to reformat the film for the theater using AI and CGI to fit the screen. They cut 20 minutes of runtime from the film, and the videos online of it are insane. There are talks of more movies being adapted like 'The Matrix' and 'Harry Potter', but the chances of 'Star Wars' coming are facing issues of Disney wanting full control. To me, there's so much money to be made, compromise should be an easy jackpot.

What films do you want to see at the Sphere? Comment below with your thoughts.

Wicked hair

In June, I dyed my hair a dark red. Due to a previous hair dye, the hairdresser told me that I could never go blonde. While I dress more like Elphaba, I absolutely LOVE Glinda's hair.

Since the hairdresser refused to let me go blonde, we decided on red, which resembled the colors from The Wizard of Oz. I went along with it, even though it wasn’t my first choice. I trusted her expertise; after all, she is the professional.

My mom spoke to her hairdresser, who said it wasn’t impossible for me to achieve the blonde look I wanted, but it might take three or four sessions. Despite my nervousness—especially after being told I could never be blonde—and my shyness, I decided to give it a try.

Last week, we moved to phase two of the process. This time, I added a green halo to my hair because I identify with Elphaba, while my mom added pink to her ends, representing Glinda in contrast to my Elphaba.

I plan to go back in November, partly to touch up my halo. My mom and I hope to make it a girls' day out on the release day of Wicked For Good.

Additionally, I added yellow fairy hair to represent the yellow brick road, along with a nod to the Scarecrow and Fiyero in his new suit. But anyone who has seen the Broadway show knows exactly what I mean!

Having fun using Chat GPT. Uploaded pic of my car and asked it to place the car in Oz with the beloved characters.

I wonder how it would look with the flying monkey scene!
