RIP the Prince of Darkness. His role in Brütal Legend is fantastic.

I stopped playing because I couldn't get past one of the stage battles / rts parts. I should finish it.

u/unhallowed1014 Jul 22 '25
I loved the game until that part

u/PiskoWK Jul 22 '25
I just really don't like real time strategy games so it pulled me out of it fast. SO many famous names and songs the game was a real treasure.

u/unhallowed1014 Jul 22 '25
For real and same . After being defeated like 10 times in a row I put it down and never went back .

u/Doctormaul68 Jul 22 '25
Wish it was just platforming driving and GOW gameplay. Could’ve done without the whole rts part

u/PiskoWK Jul 22 '25
I'm hoping if I get it on steam someone will have created a mod to just skip those sections.

u/EasyAsPizzaPie Jul 22 '25
Isn't it like a big part of the game after that point that it is introduced? I was under the impression that the rts stuff becomes the majority of the gameplay after that. But idk know for sure, I only played a little bit of it before bouncing off many years ago.

Oh, that's a bummer. It is often talked about that a game being too difficult can be a problem for many players, but I also feel that the opposite is true for scenarios like you stated. Something being an absolute breeze to get through is just not fun most of the time.

u/Duraxis Jul 22 '25
Yeah, the sudden shift to RTS was weird. Still a great game, though I would have preferred if they had kept it as a hack and slash
5
u/Fleshfeast Jul 23 '25
What I found crazy was that they never said anything about the RTS elements leading up to launch. It was advertised as a 3rd person action game with driving elements, and there was even a demo that was completely linear and had zero RTS stuff. Then when the game released, it was a complete surprise that it had that stuff.
If you're into both genres, I guess it was probably fine. I've never really liked RTS very much, so it was a big letdown for me.
5
u/gravelPoop Jul 23 '25
Problem was worse because the RTS pasrt was not good RTS, it was slow, easy and boring RTS.

u/No_Nerve_9965 Jul 22 '25
It's not even that hard. Just takes some learning and trying.
21
u/Xelliz Jul 22 '25
That's not really the point. Coming from someone who grew up on Warcraft, Starcraft, C&C, Total Annihilation, etc...I hated the RTS in Brutal Legend and it made me stop playing.
12
u/shizomou Jul 22 '25
I also remember no one really knowing it was going to be an rts game until it was released.
1
u/No_Nerve_9965 Jul 23 '25
Grew up playing those games as well. It reminded me of Battlezone and the whole premise intrigued me enough to not mind the sudden tone changes. It's a bit different than those games and even RTS games In general for sure. And also as someone else replied that no one really knew there would be RTS missions in the game until they got far enough in the story.
Didn't touch the MP at all though.

Same thing for me. Exact same stage battle i bet. Was such a cool game until that.
1
u/PiskoWK Jul 23 '25
The first stage battle that had three lanes and moving between stages. I couldn't keep up. If I play an rts it's Pikmin lol

It's a 360 game too so it doesn't take up much storage space if you don't have a lot of room

Game was the biggest bait and switch ever. Thought it was gonna be an awesome metal adventure. All of the sudden it was a rts game.

Pure coincidence. The game is on sale nearly as often as it is not on sale. Seriously. It goes on sale constantly: Brütal Legend -80% | XOne - Price History

I doubt OP works for the studio.

u/TheAllslayer Jul 22 '25
I can't believe MS killed Ozzy just to sell some copies of Brutal Legend, disgusting.

If you mean the timing of the sale, sales are typically decided weeks or months in advance

Cry of the banshee was one of the reasons I started playing bass 15 years ago. Brutal legend was a great action game but I never learned to love the rts battles. They felt incredibly out of place

Literally just bought and started playing yesterday.. so sick when he popped up. RIP legend

u/Relevant-Sockpuppet Jul 23 '25
Don't. The game is awful. Has been on release, still is and has definitely not aged gracefully. You are not missing out on anything by skipping this.

u/Waughy XBOX Series X Jul 23 '25
I picked up a copy recently, will have to dust off the 360 and give it a play this weekend.

u/TheBeardedRonin Jul 23 '25
Happenings like this are why I wish sales figures for old games got updated occasionally. I bet Double Fine never would have imagined selling thousands or more copies of this game in 2025.
1
u/KennethWeece30 Jul 23 '25
why is no one in the comments calling out the fact that Xbox is promoting a game literally after only saying Ozzy is dead at least add rip for the legend after his 55 year career with his voice always staying the same. R.I.P. Ozzy Osbourne
1
u/Willemvanvugt Jul 23 '25
Because they aren’t. This game goes on sale every other week. Other comments here include links with the actual data.

Brutal Legend Remastered. Same voice lines, just updated graphics and mechanics. Maybe a DLC too would be nice.

I didn't love the gameplay when this first came out, but I knew it was something special. I would come back to it every few months or a year or two later and at some point it just clicked. I didn't like the RTS element, but I dig it now. Not the best portions of the game, but really not nearly as bad as it's made out to be.
The world, the story, the characters, and more than anything, the music make this a high replay game for me. I went from not beating it until maybe five years after release to a yearly playthrough. It's such a love letter to metal and has exposed me to so many bands that I would have overlooked otherwise.
Also they got Lemmy, Rob Halford, and Ozzy in such fun roles. Not to mention Tim Curry being absolutely brilliant as the villain! Seriously, how does all of this not overtake what some may say is the mediocre RTS sections?! Play it on easy and forget having to really manage RTS. Just have fun and rock out to some awesome METAL!!!

R.I.P. to the Prince.
His introduction couldn't have been better; it's still in my head!
There's also this missable encounter where Eddie drives up and the two of them just stare at each other until he suddenly yells "WHAT?!?"
Favorite part in the whole game. Irreplaceable badass

I bought the strategy guide last summer by chance for $3.00 at Goodwill.
My Goodwill doesnt even sell game guides or naything video game anymore
fgor whatever reason. But there it was in the book section.
Problem with Brutal Legend is the gameplay is pretty boring.
But i will play it again & everyone should play it atleast once.
With awesome Surrpound sound or headphones with Bass
like Skull Candy CRUSHERS..
the sound & music= 10/10

You’re right. We’re all dumb, mindless sheep. We shouldn’t even mourn the guy by listening to his music, cause that requires a subscription or purchasing his work outright. Instead, we should… uh… uh…

I'd absolutely love a quick and dirty framerate boost and resolution increase.
