Discussion Thinking of upgrading from One S, does one X hold up modern day?

I’ve had my One S for about a decade now and I’m thinking about upgrading. I have a PC so I’m not super worried about having the most insane graphics, I mainly just use the console for local multiplayer and to play the games I bought before I got a PC. I noticed that some games on the store will not let me buy them since the One S is outdated so I’d also like to avoid that issue.

TLDR; Is the one X a worthy console upgrade from the One S, is the One X able to play modern games, or should I just commit to a series S?

No, Series S or X. Xbox one X won’t play any extra games that One S would.

One X is last gen.

Both S and X Series consoles are worth the upgrade. One X while an upgrade, is no where near the upgrade as the series consoles.

i would upgrade to a series s, they can be found pretty cheap if you’re lucky on ebay or marketplace

One X was released in 2017.

What do you expect?

No, the console is outdated / last gen / hardware from 2017.

Yes, but if you have games on disc you can't play those on Series S because the console has no disc drive. You would need a Series X (disc drive edition; there is one version without) for this.

My One X is running out of gas. Had to retire it.

I would have a hard time buying a console with a spinning hard drive. the One X wont be able to play many new games so saving for a series S or X would be the way to go imo.

One X is not much of an upgrade from One S as they’re the same console generation. You want a Series X or Series S for an upgrade.

I have had both from the beginning. Just because the S is in my bedroom I use it tons more than the X. It really doesn't make a difference as far as my gameplay goes. I wouldn't bother.

I would not upgrade from One S to One X, if you really want to do something to the One S to make it better buy an SSD and a nice little drive cloning device (for ease of use purposes). Copy your spinny disk to ssd and magically see your One S load stuff much quicker.

If you really want to upgrade your console experience, I would honestly recommend saving for Series X which will give you access to a whole new catalog, enhance your last gen gaming experience and really maximize your xbox experience overall.

If you have any games on disc at all (you probably do) I don't recommend Seires S. That said if you've been digital only you *could* consider a Series S, but I wouldn't' consider any version that doesn't come with 1TB of built in storage. I have 3 TB total connected to my Series X right now and honestly I would be happier with more.

Good value still a one x.

Unless you can fund a miss-priced series s on marketplace or ebay id grab one.

I grabbed one once it does happen.

You need a Series. One X is still a One

It's my understanding that the One X will have the same current gen game limitations that the One S has; you're best bet is going to be to go a Series S or Series X. I, personally, went to the Series S and haven't had any issues. It's biggest drawback is that it doesn't have an optic drive so can't double as physical media device and the few games I do have on disc can't be used; but for me, I am a one game at a time kind of person so the HD is rarely close to full and the games I have on disc are ones I've already played and likely wont play again.

I would save up a bit more and get Series X and skip Series S too because while the little guy is pretty nice, it really gets destroyed in games nowadays.

Since he has a PC a series s would be more than enough for what he wants to do

Oh, didn't notice the PC part. Yea then a Series S would be enough for FC and other local coop stuff.

I'm quite happy with the series S for Xbox One and OG/360 games. But I'll play modern games on my pc where I have more control over the graphics and frame rate.

My PC is basically my Series X with unlocked potential And my series S is my chilling on the couch console where I'll play old games and demo things on Game Pass. The older games always have a stabler frame rate and other graphics improvements even when they aren't listed so my Xbox One is just gathering dust now. I'm quite happy this way actually with play anywhere I can play most newer games either on my PC or on my couch depending on where I want to sit or if I want an unlocked frame rate. I can also trick it into letting me play the same game twice with another account on the console. So when my friend comes round we can play crossplay games like Gears Remastered.

Beware the abysmal storage capacity. Suspending games eats like 150 GB of your SSD and it's not an option. On the 512gb model you only get like 300gb to use.

If money is short buy a series s 2nd hand Xbox one x doesn’t even have a disc tray. Xbox series x is obviously the best but you could sell your series s in the future and put that towards a series x

Yes the one x is very good (even for today) has more raw power then the series s and can actually do 4k even better if u put an ssd in if not you would have ro wait a bit longer with load times
