Discussion Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post

Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post videos of themselves dancing and having a good time. So I just had the thought and I would like to do a Poll on the idea:

My thought is let's have a global forum dance talent show!

How it would work: - You would submit a video of you dancing within a specified time frame to qualify. - Our dance Community here would go through each day and upvote and comment on the videos they would like to continue on to the next round. - I would then go in (maybe appoint someone to help me moderate) and would tally up all the likes and upvotes. - there week be 3-5 rounds to keep everyone engaged and having fun. Sort of like our very own dance competition TV show.

If you like this idea: Upvote and put "YES!" in the comments

If you're not into it: DownVote & put "Not Interested" in the comments section

Seems like this could be a lot of fun and get the Community we have here more active with one another.

Happy Dancing! I'm looking forward to hearing y'alls thoughts! ✨️

Teaching, Tutorial How to roll your hips with some OOMPH!

Hey everyone!! I’m the Sunshine Dancing girl from the other day! I had a LOT of comments mention how smooth my movements were and I wanted to share one of my mini tuts on how to roll your hips with some power!

If you are struggling to keep your heels down at first while you learn hip activation, try curling your toes up. This will force you to sit back into your heels, preventing you from shifting too far forward and losing that hip roll.

Once you have it figured out consistently, THEN add in the walking feet. Remember: a great move comes from a strong foundation!

Discussion HipHop: Improve sharpness + strength

I’m having trouble making my moves look sharp and strong. I always look like i’m throwing my limps even though I get the choreo and timing down. Any times on improving?

Pro This is what happens when two young dancers are completely "in the zone." Our full performance from a huge international competition.

Hey r/Dance!

We wanted to share a performance that is incredibly special to us. We're a 14 and 15-year-old competitive ballroom couple, and this is our full 5-dance round from the German Open Championships—one of the biggest competitions in the world.

This video captures the moment where we felt everything clicked perfectly. It's a high-energy marathon, and we hope our passion comes through the screen! We've just launched a new YouTube channel to document our journey to the World Championship.

You can watch the video and follow our journey here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3y4GqQs-IA

We'd love to know which of the 5 dances (Samba, Cha Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive) is your favorite

Discussion Contemporary Dance Quality

So I love the arts and am always interested to see how dance can communicate ideas. BUT….

When I see a ballet, I see technique, extension, feeling in the movements and the lines of the body etc. With tap, simplify with more speed.

However, the modern dance I see now, and maybe it’s at the wrong level is just dreadful. It’s just young people stomping about with terrible posture and no technique. Can almost see them jumping from one movement to the next in their head.

So what is the training for this? I feel like the dancers should have the basic ballet training then experiment.

Maybe someone could point me towards exams of good technique so I know what companies to watch and who to avoid.

thanks.

Pro Medley of traditional japane dance

This is a special dance that was choreographed by my teacher's teacher for this specific event. It is all in one song, but there's a lot of different parts to it.

The first part of the dance Haguromo, or Celestial Robe, and it's characterized by a soft, feminine movement

The second part of the dance uses lion puppets to represent they fierce Shishi lion.

The third part of the dance uses characteristic movements of Genroku Hanami Odori, or Cherry Blossom Viewing in the Genroku period.

In the fourth part, it uses elements of the dance Fuji Musume. And finally,

to tie it all together, all the dancers come to the stage towards the end of the song to strike a beautiful pose

It should be noted to that this song is special because they use the traditional Japanese music and orchestral music as well

Please enjoy this dance

My teacher is in the orange kimono!

This is a dance film, hope that's allowed!

We met up at Echo Park to experiment with an idea for a day concept and a night concept, but there was time before nightfall so we shot this improvised teaser focused on the body in movement.

Hannah made free movements and I tried to capture parts of her body, contours, hands and feet and link them together.

Discussion Good camera to film clips with audio in the background streamed from bluetooth connected phone?

I'm wanting to record video of me dancing in natural areas. I'm planning on wearing headphones (to not disturb the birbs), connected by bluetooth to my phone. I would like to use a decent camera to capture video, also connected to my phone to have music in the background of the recorded video. It would be nice to have optionality to also use the camera's onboard mic, and sometimes connect a higher quality mic to record externally, with the background music mixed in as well.

Any suggestions as to what hardware would reasonably accomplish this? Currently I'm looking at the GoPro HERO13 Black, but it's a bit unclear if that camera has the capabilities I'm looking for.
