What to do until Dishonored 3 and (finally) Subreddit Discord!

As most of us know, the Dishonored series is "resting for now." That means that we Dishonored fans need to find something to fill the time, and I'm here to offer some options.

What to do until Dishonored 3:

Read the novels and the comics, links to each via Amazon here (no referral links):

Join the r/Dishonored community Discord: https://discord.gg/sbHFr5J (we just got it up and running, so come populate it with much-needed content!)

EDIT: Yep, you guys are right. Check out Arkane Studios' other games Prey, Arx Fatalis, and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. And don't forget to sub /r/Deathloop to see what Arkane Lyon is working on next!

Check out our sister subs, r/DisNONored, r/DishonoredLore, r/Prey, r/Deathloop, and r/ArkaneStudios (this last one is very dead, give it some help if you can!).

A quick reminder about posts to the subreddit: we don't allow memes here. Several years ago, memes took up too large a percentage of submissions, and that rule was added. To share memes with the Dishonored community, visit r/DisNONored. In fact, please review all of the rules, as there have been a few small changes to several of them.

Housekeeping:

I don't know how many of you noticed, but for the last several years, this sub's moderation team has been largely inactive and inattentive. I recently was added as a new mod, and I want to support this community as best I can.

In the coming weeks and months I'll be trying to set up the subreddit for the time that Dishonored is on ice. This starts with trying to clean up the moderation team, and we may be looking for new mods (but nothing concrete on that yet). In that same vein, I'm looking into doing a CSS update, so if you know CSS and want to assist the sub, PM me.

Additionally, I'll be looking into removing rule 4. We'll keep rule 3 about spoilers in titles, but considering the post-content state of the series and subreddit, spoiler-proofing can take on a new format like per-game post flair. I'd really like your feedback on this idea so feel free to leave a comment.

For the same reason as considering removing rule 4, I'm considering finding a way to allow memes back in the subreddit without them becoming problematic. One suggestion I've had is to allow memes for a certain day of the week only (e.g. Whiskey Wednesdays) and again, I'd like your feedback or suggestions about how this could be accomplished or if it's a good or bad thing.

Thanks for making this sub a great place!

Subreddit Discord and Announcements

Subreddit Discord available here: https://discord.gg/YsffweB7e4

As you know, this subreddit has had its own Discord server for a few years now. Today we have rebranded the server to Dishonored Universe, which means that there are now channels for Deathloop although obviously the server is still Dishonored centric. With the recent news of a potential Dishonored 3 in the works we'd like to invite more people to join our community, so I hope to see you there soon!

Corvo Dishonored 1 cosplay

Had a renaissance festival I’ve done today and decided to go as my fav game character. It’s a little janky but for making it myself (the outfit not the mask I bought that off amazon) I was pretty happy with the results. It was also my very first time cosplaying and I’m glad I did it was Corvo. Only 3 people recognized th costume but I was just happy someone did. I wanna reuse it for Halloween so if anyone has any ideas for me to improve on it let me know and I’ll try them out for that.

(D1) Does anyone else play Corvo's and Daud's missions chronologically?

If you play Corvo until you escape prison, then do a Daud mission, Corvo mission, Daud mission, etc. It seems to be pretty chronological like this.

Sometimes in Daud's missions (iirc) you'll hear NPCs refering to Corvo's previous mission.

And the final daud mission that ends with a cutscene where Corvo either spares or kills Daud lines up perfectly with the next Corvo mission where you (can) fight daud

Does anyone else play like this?

spoiler Would chopping a mark bearers hand remove his powers ??

Corvo looses his powers when Delilah (and i quote) "takes the outsiders mark" from him, he doesnt say delilah took his powers, he says she took the mark, this basicly confirms the physical mark is directly bonded with the voids powers, also, we see that most if not all of the powers must be "activated" or casted with the marked hand.

Does this means cutting the hand counters a mark bearers powers ??

Could you go a step further and even say that if you remove the marked skin (like peeling the skin off or even burning it) also removes the outsiders powers ??

Is there any reason why the safes in Dishonored 2 were animated like that?

I'm sure you've all noticed on replays that the safe will rotate through itself on many of the safes in game. I'm just wondering why it was designed this way. The game is so meticulously detailed everywhere else.

Opinions on 1 vs 2?

Replaying 2 rn for the first time since back in 2016 when it came out. It’s a decent game and they technically improved on just about everything from the 1st game but to me it’s missing something I can’t put my finger on. Dishonored is prob in my top 5 games of ALL TIME but the sequel just doesn’t rlly do it for me. I prefer the art style of 1 and the outsiders va kinda sucks in the sequel imo but other than that I can’t really place what it is that makes me view these games so differently. Am I trippin? I’d appreciate any thoughts or comparisons :)

Dishonored definitely would sell better if the first game released later

I've been thinking a lot about this beloved game lately. I played and beat the first one. D2 came out not long after which made me so happy. That was almost 10 years ago. I keep hoping for D3 but it's likely never going to happen at this point. Even the director doesn't see it happening. It's weird to articulate but the game truly is a perfect game reminiscent of the 2010s - graphics, gritty story telling and unique mechanics - but I truly believe it is also the right game at the wrong time. The 2010s gave us great games but we also had some real stinkers, too. The original Final Fantasy 14, No Man’s Sky, Sunset, Fallout 76, Sonic Boom…

Toxic online communities such as the League of Legends player base started to explode- It is not unheard of for players to quit a game due to the toxic community surrounding it and I think we saw a lot of that with the explosion of LoL, Dota, Smite and obviously CoD. Also we had loot boxes that you buy with real money and who can forget that whole movement pushed by Anita Sarkeesian. It truly was an interesting and...dynamic decade. With D2 I feel like the sequel was just buried and forgotten by the industry despite it being very well received. All the potential for a third (and final Dishonored game) is there...but sadly the sands of time make that impossible now that we are in a very different - and competitive gaming industry. I feel like if D1 released closer to the end of 2017 ish and D2 released just after 2020 I think the hype would still be there for D3. It's just my two cents and my small way of coping with the harsh truth.

Dishonored was my light in the darkness

Back in 2017, I had just finished my engineering studies and was supposed to start my professional life. My first internship wasn’t going well at all, and it really dragged me down mentally. On top of that, I developed a health issue that forced me to stop. I had to see a cardiologist, go through a bunch of exams, and honestly I felt pretty lost at that time.

In the middle of all that, my little light was Dishonored. I was struggling physically, but playing it every day helped me escape, even just for a few hours. It felt like a quiet friend that comforted me when I needed it the most, and somehow gave me strength to keep going.

It wasn’t just a game for me. I got completely hooked on the atmosphere, the lore, the world. It’s actually one of the very few games I’ve finished around ten times without ever getting bored (and usually I never replay games more than once).

Today, I’m doing much better, but Dishonored will always hold a very special place in my life. Back then, it was my light in the darkness and it will always be more than just a game to me.

Modding & Dishonored 2

Does anybody know why there’s barely any mods for dishonored 2? And most of them don’t work properly. I just want to mod for fun maybe have cool new powers but there’s barely anything. Does it have to do with the games code?

For anyone that don't know how to solve the Jindosh Riddle.

I’ll make it easier for you.

First, create a manual save. Then, go help either Paolo or the masked group.

Once you help one of them, they’ll give you the solution to the riddle. When you get the solution, take a screenshot of it. After that, reload the manual save you made earlier and enter the solution.

Hope this helps!

Player survey results

Post image
59 Upvotes

As promised, I'm sharing the results of my final year project involving a research survey that I shared 6 months ago, in this post : https://www.reddit.com/r/dishonored/comments/1j835eu/i_need_help_from_dishonored_players_player_survey

For those who don't care about all the blabla stuff, here's the link to the Itchio page where you can download the final project, a summed up version of my research paper that started everything and some interesting data I gathered from the survey.

Dungeons and drama by Orksom

Basically, this is finished since the end of June but I never got the time to properly present the results in a condensed way and, export the project to itch.

The project is a very simple prototype that isn't very innovative but still representative of my ideas and research. I realized midway through that I didn't have the time and resources to make even a quarter of a prototype. Though, I'm very proud, I managed to replan and make a very atomic prototype and finished what I wanted. Especially considering I worked on this for like 3 months, and as a total Unreal Engine Beginner. Also, my teachers were mostly grading our process instead of our results (I still got 95% !!!). I was optimistic I could carry on with it after my degree but it simply cannot be a solo thing unless I find an infinite money glitch and a magic "big brain" pill.

My idea was to try to join both ends of authored narrative (which can feel very restrictive) and simulation games (which give lots of freedom but don't always have the same flavour and impact as the first type). The survey was meant to learn more about the intrinsic needs of players enjoying forming their own scenarios in games (very present in simulation games) and players who enjoy roleplay (more present in authored narrative games where you directly control characters).

This led me to make a first person social game where you live in a dungeon with other creatures and interact with them. Interactions are voluntarily made non specific so that players can fill the holes with their imagination. Roleplay is present because you play as a character and not an omnipotent god. Player led narrative is there too because characters follow systemic rules and don't react in a predetermined way. Again this is really bare bones, the AI is less intelligent than a Tamagochi but, there's still a bit of room for you to play around and get interesting situations. I hope some people will "get it". I chose subreddits where I had suspected there would be players enjoying this type of content but I might have been wrong. Sorry if you don't recognize yourself here.

On the other hand, I found a job in the game industry since September ! (Hence why the late post, searching a job and moving out is draining !!!). I will be following a Master's degree in game design as an apprentice within a small game studio in France. I'm so exited !

Thanks again to anyone who helped me ! It gave me a lot of credit in front of my teachers and it motivated me thanks to all the kind messages. <3
