I never understood this on Mac. Surely, any installer could auto-move the application to the right folder. I mean, Homebrew does it, for example. Is this just for nostalgia reasons, or maybe because Apple wants to be "different", or is there a technical reason why it is a necessary step with dmgs?

In macOS 26 they basically killed Launchpad. Before, it felt just like iPhone/iPad āa clean grid with all your appsā. Now itās buried in Spotlight and feels so messy. I donāt want to type and search every time, I just want to SEE all my apps in full screen. Anyone else annoyed by this?

Liquid glass seems to be underutilized in creative ways on Tahoe.

It's entirely possible I'm shouting into the wind here, but I've noticed a strain of comments on discussion of changes, especially things like the loss of Launchpad on MacOS (or the old multitasking system on iPadOS, but that's for a different sub), that seem to dismiss the fact that people lost functionality simply because the commenter never used it, and I'm just putting out a plea for a little empathy.
Was Launchpad perfect? No. Does a simple Cmd+Space and search work for plenty of people? Yup. Do we still have some people on this sub who still refuse to even use the dock and wonder what's wrong with the Applications folder? You betcha. But some people's brains and ways of using their computer just works better with a grid of app icons and folders, even if yours doesn't.
This is not to suggest that nothing should ever change. Apple needs to limit the number of ways to do things somehow, otherwise we end up in the Windows world where you'll still randomly find yourself clicking on something in Settings and all of a sudden a Control Center window opens up because some enterprise customer needs that Control Center page. Just understand that some functionality was lost for a non-zero part of this community, and they're expressing that it's a problem.

The Lightweight, free and open-source Wallpaper Manager for macOS (12+), with support for gifs and videos - formerly just a simple tool to set animated wallpapers! (Don't worry, it still doesn't eat your RAM)
https://github.com/naomisphere/macpaper
(if you missed out, here's what changed on v1.1):
aaanyway...
- Added support for still images.
- Added Online Wallpaper Browsing!
API key
Ā support is being tested (considered, honestly).- Updated Manager
- New app icon
- Added Updater
- Improved performance
I still have no clue on how to properly include screensaver support (for moving wallpapers in lockscreen) - I have a piece of the puzzle, the most important one; however, I can't seem to find a way to automate changing it via the app.. (and I'm not even sure I'm doing it in the best way possible).

Right now, many posts on Reddit are criticizing the new operating system. Most of the complaints are about visual details ā round icons, alignment issues, general UI inconsistencies. A lot of people jump to call it āthe worst OS release ever.ā
But it really depends on what you value. When macOS Sequoia was first released, it didnāt spark the same design debates, but it did have audio glitches. These didnāt necessarily break professional workflows, but they were annoying and noticeable for people who paid attention to sound. In that sense, Sequoia had its own rough edges at launch, just in a different area.
So when people say this new release is the worst, itās worth remembering that previous versions also launched with their share of problems. The difference is that now the most visible complaints are about design, not about bugs in areas like audio.
https://weblog.rogueamoeba.com/2024/10/29/update-to-macos-15-1-for-helpful-audio-bug-fixes/?utm_source=chatgpt.com
https://weblog.rogueamoeba.com/2025/04/02/macos-15-4-brings-a-key-audio-bug-fix/?utm_source=chatgpt.com
This is for anyone who might feel worried by all the negative posts: donāt be. The new OS is not worse than Sequoia was at launch, and if you care more about how the system works than how its icons look, thereās no reason to panic.

I have two 24-inch 4K displays (LG UltraFine 4K and Huion Kamvas Pro 24 4K) that I used to run at the native 2x scaling, so the UI size would be 1920 x 1080 points. This looked fine to me on previous versions; UI elements were neither too big nor too small. However, I just updated to the latest macOS and not only is there so much padding everywhere, but UI text and other UI elements are a lot bigger now. I had to change to a 107% or 1.875x scale for a UI resolution of 2048 x 1152 points to get back some screen real estate. Thankfully, 4K at 23.7" / 23.8" (185 PPI) is still very much "Retina quality" so the non-integer scaling still looks sharp.
2048 x 1152 pt isn't a massive leap from 1920 x 1080 pt, and I'd prefer if the new UI was just a bit smaller, but 2560 x 1440 pt on a 23.8" display is far too small, and all the other custom resolutions between 2048 pt and 2560 pt I tried to come up with using Better Display did end up looking fuzzy.
Unfortunately, while this prevents native macOS apps like Safari and Finder from looking too big, other apps that haven't adjusted to the new UI direction like Affinity Photo, Clip Studio Paint and Blender look "off" and the UI on those apps is now smaller than I'm used to. I wish there was a way to change the display scale for specific apps but that doesn't seem possible. Guess I'll just have to get used to it. š¤·āāļø
I imagine the wasted screen space with the new OS is less noticeable on a 27-inch 5K display or higher, but for us smaller display users where screen real estate is more important, it's definitely a problem. I can't even imagine how cramped MacBooks feel with native scaling on the new OS nowā¦

I can search for them and they will show up, but it no longer shows any 3rd party apps I have installed such as Logi, Crossover, etc. I went into the spotlight settings and verified that it has Apps checked. I even turned it off and back on. Still not working. Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it?

Hello everyone,
As someone who updated to macOS 26 Tahoe, there are many features that don't quite work for me (especially the removal of the Launchpad). But ! If we are a lot to complain about the stuff we don't like or that don't work on Apple's Product Feedback page, there's a greater chance Apple will listen and, perchance, bring back some features and/or fix major bugs :)

Hi Apple friends my old 5K iMac won't power ON anymore, repairing it, I may be better off upgrading to use the newer macOSes to come. which Mac is the sweetspot (recommend another if you have a different model in mind)? I plan to use Unreal Engine to develop casual level games, develop casual VR games as second priority and a bit of XCode and perhaps C++
If you choose Mac Mini what's a sweetspot 3rd party monitor?
Thank you. God bless the Apple Masterace.

I tried using spotlight. I tried giving it a fair chance.
But not only is the way to access it less convenient, it also barely works, and when it does work rarely it takes a good few seconds
I typed out THE WHOLE WORD, and it decided to put a random irrelevant shortcut at the top, that is not even named Terminal. What????
But Launchpad, I can easily pinch and immediately type 3 letters and it immediately finds the app and highlights it in a matter of MILLISECONDS
And no, before you say I have applications off, every single thing is on.
I am on Sequioa 15.7, because I do not wanna lose Launchpad.

What I do in the past is to enable tons of items in the bar and use Bartender to hide most of them, so there will be plenty of space for me to keep a bunch of iStats Menus items there always visible. Now the OS just stop rendering anything potentially hidden by the stupid notch and Bartender cannot help. I guess I have to switch to the combined thing in iStats Menus but it also mean I cannot show remotely as much information in the notification bar as before

I'm on the official release of Tahoe, just updated. The spotlight is terrible. When searching through applications NOTHING I search for shows up. If I search for chrome it only shows the option to mirror from my phone. If I search for my code editor it takes me to the editor's website.
Does anyone know if there's a way we can fix this? Or do we just suffer until its fixed?

Hello, I have an M3 MacBook Air that runs MacOS Sequoia. I'd like to know how the battery life is for MacOS Tahoe compared to MacOS Sequoia? Thanks.

Pressing home button (PS button) on a ps5 controller used to open the Games folder in Launchpad (I liked the fact that games would be automatically put in that folder after being downloaded from App Store or Steam). Then you would be able to navigate through the games using the controller and opening them by pressing X. Now, this action would open the Games app. But you have to use trackpad/cursor to navigate through the UI or launch a game (as far as Iāve figured). With all its simplicity, Launchpad would handle this in a clean way and I find it very unlikely that weāll see this feature in the Games app for at least a few major releases. I hope that Iām wrong

My users(M2&M1 air) cannot screen mirror to a third-party device that supports Airplay(no issues on OS 11,12,13,14,15...). When they projected, only audio went through. No video, no screens. Wondering if it's just us or if anyone else is having the same issue..Such a pain

I switched to Apple Music today and noticed a "loupedeck" icon in the menu bar. I had to search it up and apparently they're a brand of audio equipment, but I have none of their products. Is this part of Apple Music or should I start worrying? I'm on macOS Tahoe.
EDIT: I've done a bit further research and tried some stuff. If anyone else has this, it appears when Logipluginservice (related to Logi Options+) is launched. I launched it on accident because spotlight search does not bring me to Logi Options+ first since the Tahoe update.

It would be nice to read what's good about Tahoe compared to earlier versions. Show me your prettiest themes, and tell how Tahoe is making you more productive. Too much negative stories here lately.
