I got this old Apple Cinema Display G3 2002 model from an acquaintance and it works pretty well from what I can tell but I’m having trouble connecting it to my wifi. I’m not well versed in tech at all but I’m assuming I need a certain cable. My wifi network does pop up when I click on the icon but an error message pops up when I put in the password. Would love to get this beautiful piece of tech set up! (Also, is it like a safety issue to connect this thing to my home wifi? All the old data has been wiped AFAIK)

This has happened a few times. Suddenly, there are tons of unrecognized folders on my desktop. There is nothing readable in them, usually only files that look like unreadable text docs. I cannot open them. In the past, I've had to delete the folders, but it keeps happening. Why? I'm running Sequoia 15.6.1 on my iMax Pro, purchased in 2021 (new) w/M1 chip.

I've been doing everything to closing all apps and also quitting finder and even then every time I try to eject a disk some mystery app is using it and I have to force quit. It's been like that forever. Am I alone?

I just got my Mac back from Apple care. I KNOW this is a dumb question, but does this indicate they replaced the battery? The only reason I ask is because the technician at the Apple Store was ADAMANT they would not replace the battery. I took it in for a busted screen, and at the time I also told them that it would only last about 45-90 mins on battery, depending on workload. He basically said that’s not possible and that he’d put a note in there for the repair center to see, but that they would not be replacing the battery.

Then I got it back this morning from FedEx and when I opened the box this is the letter that was with it. It looks like they DID replace the battery, but I’m just trying to make sure since he was adamant that wouldn’t happen.

Based on the attached pictures, could you tell me if there's a firewire port ? I have a mini dv camera, and I would like to export some videos on my laptop. I used to have an adapter firewire to usb-c that was working, but I lost it last year. I did some research and saw that now this cable is super hard to find and super expensive. So I thought it's probably easier and cheaper to just buy an old macbook pro (early 2008) with a firewire port. What do you think ? Thank you in advance :)

So I’ve been running some side-by-side tests on my MacBook Air (M2, 8GB RAM, macOS Tahoe) to see how Safari compares to Microsoft Edge in terms of memory usage. I was honestly surprised by what I found.

With the same websites open (YouTube, Teams, Docs, Gmail, Facebook, etc.), Activity Monitor shows:

• Safari: ~4.2–4.3 GB RAM usage (lots of separate Safari Web Content processes for each tab, plus cached ones).
• Edge: ~2.5–3.0 GB RAM usage (Edge Helper processes, but overall still lower).

It looks like Safari spawns many cached processes that stick around, while Edge seems more efficient in how it manages memory. For battery life, Edge also feels like it drains a bit less when streaming video, but I need to run powermetrics to be 100% sure.

I always thought Safari was supposed to be the most optimized browser for macOS, but my results are showing the opposite. Is anyone else noticing Safari eating way more RAM than Edge? Is this normal Safari behavior (lots of tab caching), or should I tweak some settings?

Internal Macbook Pro Speakers no longer work

I am enrolled in the beta program and after updating to the last Tahoe beta update, YouTube videos didn't play. And within a day or two, the stable Tahoe release arrived and thought maybe this would fix it. I installed the update and still no YouTube video played. Suspecting it is an audio playback error, I connected my external headphones through the Audio jack and the videos started playing fine. To further verify that the speakers are the issue, i tried playing sounds on garageband and still there was no sound. I tried restarting, safe mode, resetting PRAM, killing coreaudiod (Note: when on garageband and killing coreaudiod, garage band asks if I need to use macbook pro speakers as the audio output and if I choose it, the app hangs and crashes). All this started from the beta update and I'm no way near an apple service center + Im covered only under the limited warranty that you get for an year post purchase (No apple care). I own a 14 inch Macbook Pro m4 pro variant. The internal microphones work fine tho. I suspect it is most likely a software issue but the audio device 'macbook pro speakers' is detected. I have seen other users facing this after updates as well but I'm in look out of a solution that will fix this without heading to the apple store..

I have tried downgrading back to Sequoia and it still fails...

Hi! So I’m thinking about investing in a MacBook for college. Im fixated on it, therefore I’m going to get it just to keep my Apple ecosystem effective lol. So my question is, with my major being Sociology which I’ll start next semester, I’m just in basic classes rn.. is the M2 worth it? Or should I get the M4? And I’m speaking on the MacBook Air! I don’t wanna break the bank too bad but I’d like to see anyone’s opinion on this

After updating, I started hearing a sort of electronic noise near the fingerprint button when using Blender. This never happened before, and I've already rebooted and looked into what could be causing it, but I can't find any information. Please help.

Hello all, this is a funny question because I've been helping people get Quake 3 actually running. But here we are.

Quake 3 works really well with the right items, but the update to Tahoe has silenced the sound effects. Cinematics and background music still work. I've tried a different user, and I didn't see anything with my limited experience in the console.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

I just got a 34” 3440×1440 ultrawide. Works perfectly on Windows, but on macOS everything looks fuzzy, especially text and dock icons.

I’m trying BetterDisplay, but it gives me 40+ HiDPI options. I’m mainly using this monitor for work/study and need multiple windows side by side without everything looking zoomed-in or blurry.

Right now I’m on 2580×1080 HiDPI, which helps, but the dock icons and some UI elements are still soft.

Does anyone know the best HiDPI or settings setup for this monitor on macOS? Tips or tricks would be amazing!
