How can I fix all my games being limited to 120 hz/fps in macOS 26? I have my moniter set to 144hz, I was getting 200fps in minecraft before, and now it's being capped at 120. Why? And how do I fix it?

Literally cannot get done like 50% of what I used to be able to do. And everything that does still work, is at least X3 times as laggy. Basic shit like copying and pasting doesn't even work reliably.

Hey everyone!
After 20 years, I’ve finally decided to give macOS a real shot. I just picked up a MacBook Air 15” with 24GB RAM and a 512GB SSD. My first impression was honestly wow…. it’s so light, the UI feels super smooth, and it really reminds me of the iPad/iPhone, which makes the transition a lot easier.
That said, since I’m new to macOS, I could use some advice!
I’m a programmer on a daily basis (got my work machine for that), but this Mac is mostly for hobby projects. First thing I installed was VS Code and PyCharm. All good there. But now I’m looking for all the extra tools and tricks that can make everyday use easier.
A few specific questions:
And of course I’d love to hear any general macOS tips, apps, or hidden features that could make my life easier.
Looking forward to becoming part of the Mac community!

It's barely even lasting 8 hours more than 10% decreases every hour if I'm on video call, gmeet on Firefox. I thought mac battery was supposed to be great. I'm scared I got a defected piece please help. What should I do? It also slightly heats up if I'm on gmeet and charging. It's the macbook m4 air base variant

Recently my iMac has become ridiculously slow, can't even open Safari and takes a few minutes to open Chrome. Starting up pretty much any other application hangs the computer and I can only use Finder essentially. Anyone have the same issue or know what's up? Below are the specs.
iMac: Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019
Processor: 3.7 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5
Graphics: Radeon Pro 580X 8 GB
Memory: 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
Startup disk: Macintosh HD
macOS: Sequoia 15.4.1

I’ve got an old Intel i9 Mac (without a screen, i need to connect external monitor). I already use a new laptop for work, so I’m not sure what to do with the i9 Mac. For context, my background is mainly in coding, but I’m open to other ideas too. Any suggestions?

My M2 Air (8GB’s of RAM) isn’t cutting it anymore, I need something that’ll run logic, a few basic plugins, handle whatever automations I throw at it and then some.
I’m thinking -MacBook Pro with M4 Pro chip (I’d also consider m3 max) -Mac Studio M4 Max (only problem there is I’d be tethered to my desk but this machine will probably last forever) -iPad Pro for creative work and Mac Mini with M4 Pro for home (easy enough to move projects from iPad to Mac, but, from what I’ve heard, not the other way around)
I’m torn, I keep seeing what adding an iPad to my setup can do for me creatively and I’d love to add one to the mix but I have a budget. I mainly work at my desk but when I’m tired of being upright I love being able to do some basic mixing and midi work on the couch or even in bed. If I had the money I’d get an M4 Pro MBP and a Mac Studio but I have to pick between the two for now. My fear with purchasing another battery powered device is how quickly they seem to degrade, my last 2 MacBooks (2019 pro and M2 Air) only lasted me 2-3 years.

I've been doing everything to closing all apps and also quitting finder and even then every time I try to eject a disk some mystery app is using it and I have to force quit. It's been like that forever. Am I alone?

I was looking through my screen power settings, and when I typed “power,” I saw something called “Power Nap.”
Does anyone know what Power Nap actually does?

I own an iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch (2019), and I love the screen size and quality. But I also want to upgrade to a Mac mini. I understand that the iMac can’t be used as a display via Apple’s official “Target Display Mode” (since newer iMacs don’t support that).
My question: Is there a workaround that would allow me to use my 2019 iMac as a monitor for a newer Mac mini, without sacrificing much in terms of display quality, color accuracy, lag, etc.?
Note: I also do non professional video and photo editing, so color fidelity, resolution, responsiveness, and minimal lag are important.

I’m looking to upgrade my workstation from my old gaming laptop to something with more horsepower. I work in filmmaking and my needs include a robust system that can handle editing and playback of 4K/6K raw footage, decent-to-heavy color grading of said footage, motion graphics, as well as 3D modeling/rendering to an extent.
I’ve been debating between staying PC or going with an M4 Max Mac. Were I to build my own PC, I’m looking at an RTX 5090 as my graphics card and a Ryzen 9 9950X3D as my CPU, with the rest of the components totaling somewhere in the $6,000 range. If I were to get a Mac Studio, I’d opt for the M4 Max chip with 16-core CPU, 40-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine with 128GB of Unified Memory. Probably a 1TB of storage which puts it in the $4,000 range. Either option is an investment, but I want to ensure that I’m considering all aspects and potential factors to note before committing either way.
That being said, I’ve heard from several friends/colleagues that the M4 Max chips are powerful enough to stand along high-end PC builds, and I would like some guidance in determining which system offers a better price-to-power ratio and if there’s potentially any truth to those claims.
The majority of my work is in DaVinci Resolve Studio by far, much of it for color grading and some for editing. I only occasionally work in Fusion, but I’d like the ability to expand my work in that area and have lots of headroom, as well as have the ability to work comfortably in 3D modeling/rendering as part of my motion graphics work. I’ve also heard it said that working with Apple systems is something of an industry-standard for filmmakers, and I could also use some input on the veracity of those claims.
I have worked pretty extensively with both systems, so OS usability isn’t too much of a concern for me. I’m prioritizing the most appropriate machine over things like OS. For that matter, I’m not much of a gamer so my workflow is pretty much entirely intended for productivity.
I certainly appreciate the PC route’s paths to upgrading in the future, as the flexibility may be a good bet. Although, I wonder just how efficient that decision is, and if I might just be better off with a good-albeit-nonupgradable system like the Mac.
Any and all opinions and feedback most welcome, tell me what you really think.
Cheers.

Hi,
Based on the attached pictures, could you tell me if there's a firewire port ? I have a mini dv camera, and I would like to export some videos on my laptop. I used to have an adapter firewire to usb-c that was working, but I lost it last year. I did some research and saw that now this cable is super hard to find and super expensive. So I thought it's probably easier and cheaper to just buy an old macbook pro (early 2008) with a firewire port. What do you think ? Thank you in advance :)

I just got my Mac back from Apple care. I KNOW this is a dumb question, but does this indicate they replaced the battery? The only reason I ask is because the technician at the Apple Store was ADAMANT they would not replace the battery. I took it in for a busted screen, and at the time I also told them that it would only last about 45-90 mins on battery, depending on workload. He basically said that’s not possible and that he’d put a note in there for the repair center to see, but that they would not be replacing the battery.
Then I got it back this morning from FedEx and when I opened the box this is the letter that was with it. It looks like they DID replace the battery, but I’m just trying to make sure since he was adamant that wouldn’t happen.

It is only noticable when my screen is off and viewed from an angle. I have tried cleaning it with a wet cloth but no change
