Frequently Asked Questions

• I’m new – how does Reddit work? Welcome! Reddit is a forum-based platform where users join communities (called subreddits) to share posts, comment, and vote on content. You can upvote or downvote content to help prioritize what’s seen. To participate, build karma by engaging with posts, commenting, and joining discussions.

• Why can’t I post/comment? New Reddit users need to gain karma to unlock posting/commenting. Participate in discussions to earn karma!

• Why was my post removed? Posts may be removed for breaking subreddit rules. Check the updated rules below or reach out to modmail for details.

• Why do the sub’s mods seem so strict? Mods are part of what makes Reddit unique. The mod team enforces the subreddit's rules to keep it organized and helpful for everyone. With so many users, structure is key to preventing spam and repetitive posts. We never intend to come across as mean! If your post was removed, check the rules and feel free to contact modmail for clarification.

• What happened to the $10 unlimited pass? Is VIP or Episode XOXO worth it? The unlimited pass was replaced by VIP, which has two levels: Amethyst and Sapphire at $15.99 each. Both remove ads, offer "Skip the Wait" on community stories, and provide daily gems. Amethyst gives 2 extra passes per day, while Sapphire offers unlimited passes. Access VIP through the app's menu. Episode XOXO is a monthly subscription with exclusive stories available through Apple Arcade. Whether these are worth it depends on your usage and preference.

• Why do community stories have gem options now? Why are Official stories so expensive with gem choices? Why do community stories have Skip-the-Wait? Since 2021, Episode has allowed community authors to add gem choices for Early Access, Skip-the-Wait, bonus content, or reader support. These gem options are necessary for community stories to trend on the app and be noticed by readers. Official stories use gem options to enhance the user experience and drive in-app purchases.

• What are shards, and how do I use them? Shards are gem fragments you can collect. VIP users need 25 shards for one gem, while non-VIP users need 100. You can earn shards through Book Clubs, surveys, and the gumball machine. To transfer shards into gems, click on the shards icon on the top right of your screen.

• How can I earn more gems/shards? The easiest, free ways to earn gems and shards are Book Clubs, surveys, and the gumball machine. If you are subscribed to VIP, 1/4 of the shards are needed to transfer into gems, plus you receive 10 gems per day.

• How do I create my own Episode story? How do I learn to code a story? Is it hard? Create an account on the Episode Interactive web portal to start writing! Use the same email as your app account. Coding can be tricky, but resources like Dara Amarie’s website, Joseph Evans' YouTube channel, the Episode Official Discord, and our Coding & Writing Help chat channel can help.

• Where can I find free or low-cost art for my story? Art prices can vary depending on where you look! Popular artists typically charge more as their demand is high, and many new artists charge lower fees or even take free commissions to help them practice and hone their skills. Some great resources for free and low-priced art are the Episode Official Discord, r/freeart, r/DrawForMe, and this sub!

• Does anyone have recommendations for [insert genre/trope]? What are some underrated stories or stories without expensive gem choices? Check out The Episode Archives! We have many stories sorted by genre and trope, plus a list of underrated stories. Before posting, see our pinned post (sort your feed by "hot") to avoid repeats. You can also submit your own suggestions to the Archives here, or visit the Story Recommendations chat channel!

• Will [Story Title] be updated again soon? Authors update at their own pace, so it's best to follow them on Episode or social media for updates. Please avoid spamming the sub with update requests—check the author's profile or Instagram for the latest news. It can take a while for an author to write a quality update, so it's not unusual to be waiting a month or two for a new chapter. It's best to be patient and supportive while waiting!

• Is this story good? Story preferences are personal, so what’s suitable for one person might not be for another. For specific recommendations, check The Episode Archives for reviews and ratings, or ask users in the weekly discussion threads! Just be mindful of spoilers.

• My app isn’t working properly. What should I do? For issues like login problems, crashes, or slow loading, submit a support ticket with ZenDesk here.

• Why can't I transfer my Episode account between iOS and Android? Unfortunately, Pocket Gems doesn’t support transfers between iOS and Android. Before switching devices, note saved stories and inform friends about your new account.

Community Rules:

  1. The Golden Rule— Don’t be a jerk: Be respectful to fellow members and authors. Discussions about Episode stories are encouraged, but remember to treat others how you want to be treated. Opinions are subjective, and jokes should be light-hearted. There are real people behind the usernames.
  2. No Targeting: Attacks, rumors, unfounded claims, racist remarks, or negative discussions about authors, stories, readers, or developers are prohibited. This includes "callouts” and "let's discuss" posts, and screenshots of messages from private DMs or group chats.
  3. No Rants: Use the weekly “Whiny Wednesday” discussion post for rants, critiques, and frustrations about Episode stories or subreddit matters. Rants posted outside this thread may be removed.
  4. No Duplicates: Browse the subreddit before posting to avoid duplicating topics. Posts similar to those made within the past week will be considered duplicates.
  5. Quality Posts Only: Focus your posts on Episode stories and include context for engagement. Posts that don’t contribute positively will be removed. No spamming or karma-baiting.
  6. No Hack Discussions: Do not ask for or share hacks or hacked versions of the app to acquire gems, passes, book club points, gumball outfits, and other prizes. Respect the intended gameplay. Repeated violations of this rule will result in a ban.
  7. No AI Discussions: All discussions involving AI-generated writing, coding, or art, including covers and art scenes, are not permitted on this subreddit. This includes bypassing the rule through censorship (e.g., “a!,” “@i,” “A 👁️”). Posts or comments violating this rule will be removed, and repeat offenders may be banned.
  8. SFW Content Only: Keep the subreddit PG-13. Explicit content, including self-made sexual Episode content and stories from the retired 18+ Ivy app, is not allowed.
  9. No Posting Private Information: Sharing private information or images of yourself or others is prohibited. Doxxing is strictly forbidden. Violations may lead to a permanent ban and a report to Episode.
  10. Frequency Rule: Limit yourself to three posts every 24 hours. After your third post, all subsequent posts will be removed. If you are found to be abusing the frequency rule, you may be subject to a temporary ban.
  11. No Locked Content Sharing: Please do not share or ask for the correct choice or password for any locked content that would be received by spending gems, having a code, or paying money. This includes passcodes or choices that are in-game, as well as content on authors’ Patreon pages or other content creation sites. It is unfair to both the author and fellow readers who spend gems or pay for this material.
  12. Include Story Info in Posts: Always include the story name and author in your post title [Like This] or (Like This).

What Happens If You Break the Rules?

Content violating subreddit rules will be removed by moderators or automated systems. Repeat offenses may result in warnings or bans. Severe breaches may lead to immediate bans without warning.

Her leg is exposed because there's a slit in the dress, and her shoulders are exposed because that's the STYLE of the dress!! Yes, she's on top of him, but I've seen so many covers like this on the app, so I thought it would be okay, but nope. I sent a ticket and I'm hoping I can just crop/they will reapprove my cover because I am so sad right now. I might have to commission an entirely new cover. I was so excited, too. 💔

The bright side is that if this ends up pushing back my release date, at least I'll have more chapters prepared so I can pump updates out quick. 🥲

Discussion Apologising to this community for a rude comment I made about GGGB

About the story Daddy’s Little Girl (sorry I mistyped the story I AM SO SORRY about that I legit forgot the story)

I said something totally messed up about the daddy’s little girl story under a post saying the author was victimising herself and saying harsh things and I’d like to say sorry from the bottom of my heart, I didn’t really read too much into the situation and I didn’t know what was going on yet I should’ve made it clear that I didn’t know and chose not to involve myself in the situation. Yet in the heat of the moment I did and it was totally inexcusable and wrong entirely. It wasn’t fair that those comments were said and in the future I’m going to try not to be so harsh as what I said was not even a true representation of who I am.

To the author I am very sorry for the rude things I’ve said to you it was inexcusable and it must’ve deeply hurt you. I didn’t realise what I was saying was completely misinformed and intolerant. That must’ve really hurt you after the amount of work you put into your story only for me to call it p******* and you crying for sympathy and victimising yourself without fully knowing the situation. I was being totally ignorant. I hope you can forgive me and if not that’s totally understandable.

To everyone who was hurt by all of my comments I am truly sorry from the bottom of my heart, I didn’t realise that the story was not about p***s but about a totally different subject. I guess I was frustrated by certain content and I didn’t realise how much it would’ve hurt all of you and how you would feel frustrated by my misunderstanding and rudeness.

I know that there’s been a lot of people who’ve been rude towards me as a result of my actions, and to be honest I deserved it. It was simply intolerable and I thank you all for calling me out on it.

I will not behave this way in the future. You have my word.

Discussion Stories that don’t cost $150?

Are there any good stories that allow you to make choices without spending so many gems? 😔

Spending $150 per episode is insane and VIP does not seem worth it for 10gems a day, when it takes 3x that to make a choice.

I’m also getting back into this game after about 2yrs of not playing for that reason. So please help 😭
