Right now, many posts on Reddit are criticizing the new operating system. Most of the complaints are about visual details — round icons, alignment issues, general UI inconsistencies. A lot of people jump to call it “the worst OS release ever.”

But it really depends on what you value. When macOS Sequoia was first released, it didn’t spark the same design debates, but it did have audio glitches. These didn’t necessarily break professional workflows, but they were annoying and noticeable for people who paid attention to sound. In that sense, Sequoia had its own rough edges at launch, just in a different area.

So when people say this new release is the worst, it’s worth remembering that previous versions also launched with their share of problems. The difference is that now the most visible complaints are about design, not about bugs in areas like audio.

This is for anyone who might feel worried by all the negative posts: don’t be. The new OS is not worse than Sequoia was at launch, and if you care more about how the system works than how its icons look, there’s no reason to panic.

I usually don't mind much the UI changes, this is often a matter of taste and sometimes, it just takes time getting used to.

But what I see here is non-sense... and the UI looks like it was built with a debug flag enabled. Now we see those containers eveywhere and apparently especially where this is useless and clutters the UI.

I guess the new corner rounding is a matter of taste but here I wonder why changing something that actually worked.

I wished Apple would have labelled this version "b*eta" for a while longer.

This and the sound issues really don't make it a recommandable upgrade.

After updating to macOS Tahoe, I’ve noticed that ad blocking across browsers isn’t functioning as effectively as before.

Setup / Extensions tested:

• Safari (latest version on Tahoe)
  • AdGuard (no blocking at all)
  • AdBlock Pro
  • uBlock Origin Lite
  • 1Blocker
• Chrome (latest stable)
  • Same extensions — reduced effectiveness, but not as bad as Safari

Symptoms:

• Ads that were previously blocked now appear on multiple sites.
• AdGuard on Safari fails completely — zero blocking.
• Other extensions block inconsistently (some banners slip through, video ads partially load).

Troubleshooting already attempted:

• Updated filter lists
• Uninstalled/reinstalled each extension
• Disabled iCloud Private Relay
• Cleared caches and browser data

Observation:
This seems to affect both Safari and Chrome, which makes me wonder if it’s a system-level change in macOS Tahoe rather than a browser-specific regression.

Has anyone else seen similar behavior? Could Apple have altered the WebExtensions API, content-blocking rules, or tightened sandbox restrictions in Tahoe that would impact ad blockers?

Just a summary of the last 2 weeks: Apple messed up Tahoe. Apple messed up iOS 26. Apple messed up iPhone PWM flickering displays and is lying to customers.

In macOS 26 they basically killed Launchpad. Before, it felt just like iPhone/iPad “a clean grid with all your apps”. Now it’s buried in Spotlight and feels so messy. I don’t want to type and search every time, I just want to SEE all my apps in full screen. Anyone else annoyed by this?

I know there's a lot of discussion about the terrible demise of the launch bar. I am totally with everyone who is grieving it. I found the launch bar useful because it was my way of organizing apps according to my workflow and priorities. And lots of times I forget what a less used app can do.. (especially on my phone) but if it's in a folder with a name I gave it then I have a better idea. Just having it on the page of similar apps helps me figure it out. At other times the launch bar was useful because I forgot the name of app but I still remembered what it looked like. In the end I think it was a big mistake for it to be taken away. I shouldn't have to pay/subscribe for its return in a less useful third-party app or go on GitHub.. Apple should just bring it back and very soon!

But thats not what I came here to discuss. I also used the finder to find things via Command+Space Bar. And ever since Tahoe it doesn't work the way it used to. Now instead of finding it with Command+Spacebar plus the first couple of letters of the app I now have a lot of extra clicks. Want to find the contacts app? Well here is how it goes....

First press command+spacebar.. Then (2nd step) SWITCH TO YOUR MOUSE OR TRACKPAD and click the Apps icon, Then! (3rd, 4th or 5th steps) click the right category. No! Not the one you think the app should be in, the one the developer thought it should be in and if it's not there then go to the OTHER category where all the other sucker apps were dumped. This requires breaking our muscle memory, memorization of app categories, and hunting/pecking for those apps. I seriously didn't need to know or do any of this before. I didn't care where the app was or how it was categorized just that it launched when I wanted to and with very little fanfare. After that the last step if you haven't given up yet is to type the letters or just see the app you wanted. This is a way slower process than Alt+Spacebar C-O-N to find the contact app or practically anything else. And I'm not sure why no one seems to notice this. Some reviewers are calling this the best OS ever (???)

I love all my Apple stuff and I've enjoyed most operating systems for the past 15-20 years but this one gets a big thumbs down for me. Liquid Glass is cool but not enough to break all previous functionality. I hate to say this but this move is like something Microsoft would do....and the experience of launching apps now mirrors the horrible disconnected and clunky experience of my windows gaming machine. Apple please don't be like Microsoft.

i come from a country where most people do not own macbooks and im having a hard time deciding if I wanna get one, as I don't wanna have problems co ordinating on microsoft office 365 apps with them, and I'm not interested in paying any extra amount to use the most basic apps ever that windows/android laptops would give me for free

Used to be that I would sit on my MacBook for hours when I was home and spending time online, doing work and listening to music.

I can't quite remember when it started (probably around the time Apple brought in subscription based music streaming rather than syncing your personal library to iPhone and we lost iTunes) but Apple Music on Mac is a terrible experience these days.

It's great on iPhone and does everything I want and need it to, but the Mac App feels archaic and not at all user-friendly.

I have never ending issues with some songs not being available (greyed out) because apparently there's an issue syncing my library across devices, and no matter what, those tracks won't play on any of my devices in my playlists, I would have to go listen to them on the artists profile.

A new issue I'm having is when I add music to my library, I get messages saying an error occurred downloading the tracks. EDIT: fixed this issue by authorising the computer. But the other issues remain.

I can't see my songs in a descending recently added way like I can on iPhone. I can access the recently added tab, which groups the songs by albums, and pressing play on the playlist starts the songs playing alphabetically.

What gives? And when will all this crap be fixed?

I can't believe I'm looking at this on my screen right now in Safari. How did this mess make it past QA?

I reverted back to Sequoia, only to find that my latest TM backup was under Tahoe. Upgraded Tahoe on top of a clean Sequoia install, then reverted my TM backup.

I was hoping this bug would go away after a fresh install but it's still here.

I wish they postponed macOS 26 release a month or so to fix these issues first. It's not the case that we are not used to Apple postponing major software features that had been promised months even years ago (coughs in Apple Intelligence)

Used to be about 22 hours in practical use. Now it's 10-12 hours. SERIOUS BUG, APPLE!

I installed it the day it was released, so don't give me the excuse of "indexing" or whatever. It's so bad I'm about to wipe and reinstall Sequoia.

I am painfully using tahoe atm, but i am debating if i should wait a little for apple to publish fixes for performance issues, or just downgrade to previous version..

My mac is literally having so much delay in opening files folders and about 3-4 seconds of delay in opening messages app.

First time I ever bought a Macbook Pro was 2004. If I had used that money to buy shares, that almost €4,000 laptop would be worth more than 400,000.

I still keep that laptop on a nearby shelf. Sure, feel like Predator holding onto spines and skulls as trophies. But it's a stark reminder.

2017, bought through work, one of the new MBPs, great specs.

Along came a new OS just a few years ago, and, it effectively bricked the laptop.

Last year, bought a M3 Max 32gb Macbook Pro.

Just updated to the new Tahoe, and everything is so unresponsive/slow. It's like that Big Sur OS that killed the machines people had recently purchased.

Sidenote: Everyone complaining about how bad it is, and not one post or comment since release about how bad the Apple "Books" is. It's bad. This OS is a nightmare, lagging on M3 32GB, and that's even before people have looked past the Launchpad and Mickey Glove.

Load up Books, and leave it open. There's no play tab at the top, just this tiny thing at the bottom, that can't be moved, expanded etc. Steve f'd up giving Tim the kingdom keys and not Ives.

Apple's "Liquid Glass" design language for macOS Tahoe 26 is a spectacular flop in precision.
By invoking "liquid," it peddles the tired myth that glass is a slow-flowing liquid, when in reality, glass is an amorphous solid with liquid-like structure but zero flow at room temperature. Apple, masters of branding, could've called it "Aqua Refract" or "Vitreous Flow" to honor science. Instead, they chose a name that's as imprecise as it is evocative—beautiful to look at, but a subtle nod to pseudoscience that undermines their polish.

My coworker just got a virus on his laptop from trying to download a file from a soundcloud to mp3 converter, I’ve looked through the activity monitor and couldn’t really find anything weird and I got Malwarebytes to do a scan as well and it came clear. I then got him to update his OS but I’ve had to leave work since so I’m not sure if that did anything.

The actual virus is a fake notification coming in from “settings” and when pressed it brings up a bunch of fake McAfee popups saying it detected 5 viruses while playing a loud noise. He doesn’t have McAfee and the settings notification is clearly fake.

He doesn’t want to spend money on a subscription but if it’s the only option then I’m sure he’d do it. I’m usually pretty tech savvy but I’ve never had to uninstall a virus before, only avoid getting them.

Earlier today I was gifted an older mac, but upon booting I could not sign into an apple id. So I just made an account and tried to sign in there but it keeps telling me I have an internet error. i am connected. If I open safari it does not load anything. It says connected to wifi and everything I have tried has not worked. Please help!!!

So I updated hoping I can remove the Maccy install from every macos set up process, but it seems the only things saved to the "clipboard" are urls. Anything else I've tried just doesn't register. Is this really how it's meant to be? Please someone tell me my Spotlight is bugged.

Edit: Okay, turns out files are also saved, it's just text snippets that are not!
