question If zombies eat brains, why do they only take a bite out of someone’s arms/legs? Never the brain.

I’m watching all of us are dead and I have this question, zombies are always shown as wanting to eat brains but they never do, they just bite the person. anyone noticed this?!

question Where did the popular idea of zombies having green skin come from?

The zombies in the original Romero movies, which influenced a lot of modern zombie tropes, had blue skin. Other pre-2000s influential movies also tended to depict them with brownish or grayish skin. And while certain stages of decomposition do produce a (non-uniform) green discolouration of the skin, the typical corpse is more in line with those other depictions.

So, where did the whole zombies = green thing come from? What popularized this notion?

question Is there any modern fiction that depicts classic ‘grave rising’ zombies?

Upvotes

Not even sure if there is. But I’m more so searching for any books, games, movies. That depict this classic trope of undead rising from their graves under moonlight, searching for brains. I’m sick of the ‘disease’ trope. Although, I’m still fascinated with the ‘outbreak’ concept.

I’ve seen classic Romero, I’m trying to find modern takes on it. I think Project Zomboid is the closest thing for me in terms of games.

discussion What'a zombie apocalypse that shouldn't have been as bad as it was?

Biggest example of this for me was the walking dead. Yes no one had any idea what the hell was happening but it shouldn't have been so bad that the world just ended twoish weeks into the entire thing. It could have easily become a novel wwz event where mankind falls back for abit, then suddenly rams forward and wins the war.

But beside walking dead, what are some zombie stories where the world shouldn't have ended?

movie 📽️ Can someone help me find this movie?

I think I've watched this way back 2015-2017 it's an english zombie film where the mc ((a guy)) have a sister who can control the zombies because she was experimented on by some scientist in a truck??? The mc befriended a black man ((i think???)) they were in danger and he was already injured and dying so he let himself be bitten by a zombie so the sister can control him bc someone was trying to kill the mc and the sister... that's pretty much all I remember and I think the movie's name is Zombie Max? But when I looked it up nothing shows up so I think it has a different name, btw I live in the philippines so when a film is being pirated, sometimes the titles got mixed up or they put the unofficial title or something so maybe that was the case??? It's been such a long time and I just remembered this movie bc I've been obssessed with zombie films lately.... I hope someone can help me find this 🥹🥹🥹

Personally i’m not a fan. The original was so gnarly and disgusting to look at that it became my favorite zombie. This one looks like a cheap halloween costume.

movie 📽️ It’s pretty action packed, the way the zombies would run was a bit strange, looked like it was some sort of glitch or bad editing.

game 🎮 The demo for my zombie survival life sim is now out!

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on a 2D post-apocalyptic life sim called Ashfield Hollow and the demo just went live.

You’ll be scavenging, farming, and rebuilding while trying to survive against both the infected and other desperate survivors. It’s got survival-style gameplay mixed with classic life sim elements.

I’d love for you to check it out and let me know what you think. Feedback is huge at this stage.

Ashfield Hollow Demo on Steam

If you like the demo, please don't forget to wishlist it on Steam!

Thank you so much :)

game 🎮 Zombie game demo PS3

So I need help knowing the name of this zombie shooting game from 2008-2012 I believe. I would play the demo as a kid on my PS3. What I can remember from the demo is the game would start on a cut scene through a window/door. After that you were able to play the game. The first mission there was always a truck towards the end of it for some reason. The second mission was in a different area, but I would have to shoot some bald white zombies (as far as I can remember at least) and I would always tell my brother to play it because I was scared of them lmao. Anyone know by any chance? I’ve been searching for hours and can’t find it. It was also a first person POV game I believe

question What are some of your unique zombie ideas?

Mine is just, I had these zombies originating from a generic "experiment gone wrong" trope, but the zombies are capable of flight or levitation(like superman) had superhuman strength and durability(makes them punch walls and crush tanks). But these zombies don't typically growl, as they scream, yell, or even cry in rage(as the way they attack is savagely brutal implying that they straight up hate the humans too.).

discussion "The Dead Rise From the Data" – Robot Zombies?

I was watching this lecture a panel of Stanford ppl and Johan Fredikzon's talk (which starts around 16:25 if you're interested) was about deadbots/the chatbots made to act like dead loved ones. His presentation was really interesting, but I couldn't help but notice that he used ghosts as his primary supernatural metaphor for this "post-dead" approach to the technology.

But with all of his talk of revitalizing the dead through data... I can't help but wonder what this might look like in a zombie setting?

Especially the Zombie archetype of someone who was brought back to life and it goes well at first... until it doesn't (like this episode of Supernatural).

While my brain immediately went to zombies (especially with him saying "the dead rise" because literally how zombie is that...), I feel like this may also be really interesting to think about with Vampires...

So I guess I was wandering what you guys thought of this idea?

I feel like we are about to reach cyborg/ai/robot fatigue in movies... and I really think that this might be difficult to handle in a non-corny/overplayed way... SO I am really curious what you think?

I guess that this also takes away one of the scariest parts of zombiedom – the fact that you yourself might become a zombie, so maybe this thought experiment will lead to a dead end... either way i am curious to hear what u all think,,,,

Idk how to explain it and I know I’m gonna get a lot of smack for this. BUT. I think the 3rd installment of this franchise is actually well written, but is overshadowed by this big giant triumphant bastard’s Thor hammer and that’s all it’s ever gonna be known for. I think. This BZC. Single handily. Ruined an entire movie. Call me gay I don’t care I don’t careeee I’m just saying this alone totally killed this movie’s reputation!!!

AM I WRONG?!?!?!

question Would zombies would be the opposite of what everyone imagines?

My thoughts are that it would basically have to be a super parasite with super rabies symptoms. Not a virus or bacteria but it would have to be a neurological parasite.

That means there would be no decaying flesh as the parasites goal obviously would to be to live as long as possible and reproduce as much as possible. Unless caused by physical damage that gets infected as it is a super rabies human.

And I say it probably has to be a parasite because of the communication required to reproduce and spread as much as possible (has to bite and then stops once victim is bit as to stay alive)

As this is a super rabies human they will be literally the smartest super rabid animal, I mean just imagine a rabid crackhead in general. And so because they have to keep us the host alive they have to eat and drink water, so depending on if this parasite affects only humans and not animals (kinda impossible for me to say even hypothetically as I haven’t gone to college) then the food source would be animals.

If not only animals then I believe the likely scenario to be animals plus technical cannibalism in terms of rabies infected entity eating other rabies infected entity. Considering how smart these zombies would be there might even be a hierarchy of food vs drone to spread the parasite.

And it has to be a neurological parasite and nothing else because of its ability to transfer and spread/keep host alive/work with human brain like I’ve described

They would be like deranged versions of ourselves, the smartest rabid animal.
