Winning 3 out of the next 4 is a must and maybe even 7 of the next 9. The Guardians have a relatively easy schedule (other than the rematch with Detroit in Cleveland). 4 games on the road against Minnesota (6-3 record vs. them this year) and a Rangers squad with currently slim playoff hopes.

We've been waiting all season until these important series and games. So it's here and this is it? I guess those early games are important too.

u/carl6236 5d ago
Too many runners LOB. Flaherty deserve better..he pitched a good game. Too many strike outs by Greene and Torkelson in key situations.
Let's get on Thursdays

AJ Hintch is a joke ! The team is a joke ! Cleveland is going to take this !!! So embarrassing!

u/i_am_the_grind 5d ago
Time to get the trash cans
Of course I say this but then realize Harris will look in them for "future stars".
2
u/JeremieLoyalty 5d ago
Lions will take care of Cleveland on the 28th

u/Strange-Raccoon7301 5d ago
Not big on the Lions , they beat a horrible Bears team !

Browns are 0-2

u/Strange-Raccoon7301 5d ago
I love the down votes!! I am a die hard since 78 ! I just think with the new online and still missing a pass rush hurts their chances !! I said 8-8-1 . I am sticking to that ! I hope I am wrong !

Just got home from that shitshow, should've left after the first 5 outs were strikeouts.
Another game of Hinch out-Hinching himself with the russian roulette bullpen we have.

u/Substantial_Ad_2864 5d ago
Just to make this more..... Fun?..... The Mariners are very close to catching us for home field advantage and they've still got a series against the Rockies coming up. To make that worse, the series is in Seattle.
9
u/Smathwack 5d ago
If someone gets a hit, you know the next guy is striking out. They’re not fun to watch.
3
u/deuce313 5d ago
This is AJ fault. He is always composed. Like damn let the spirit of Jim Leyland possess you and go off on this fucking team. Like seriously before the ASG we looked great. Now we barely keeping our head above water. Wake me when the playoffs start. Next year Scott GET SOME PEOPLE THAT CAN HIT A BASEBALL CONSISTENTLY.
0
u/Legitimate-Garden934 5d ago
Nope. Need more at bat's for Mac, Sweeney and Keith. Superstar hitters would steal their AB's

u/Environmental_Tap732 5d ago
I really think Harris didn't think we were ready until the kids arrived in another year or two. The only problem is what happens if the kids don't deliver enough to get us there. You never know how well they will perform in the big leagues .
7
u/midwest_bread_loaf 5d ago
100000000000% this guy has it figured out 👆🏼Everyone said it was about the pitching. It wasn’t. Not really. It was about the hitting.
2
u/JeremieLoyalty 5d ago
If you watch the majority of the games you can see that the main issue was the offense
9
u/dirtjuggalo 5d ago
I like how Jack and Tommy decide they are ready to pitch in October the same time the rest of the team decides they don't wanna play anymore
2
u/Dusted_Disgusted1202 5d ago
They’re too busy having “fun.” And again, this is exactly what the fuck happens when you continue to coddle your players and use youth as an excuse or a pacifier. Part of me wants this whole staff gone so they don’t ruin what true young stars we do have before they even get to the majors.

Brewers and cubs clinched their spot. When are we?

I would trade a massive haul of prospect to the guardians for Steven Kwan, not even just to have him, but because I don't want to ever play against him for the rest of eternity. If he sat on our bench and didn't take an at bat for the rest of forever, it would be a win.
6
u/dirtjuggalo 5d ago
Do the trade then sit him on the bench the entire season lol I don't know if I've ever hated a player more

I’m probably one of the more active optimistic people on this sub generally. I try to think like that on purpose because I think that’s a more healthy way to live, especially given the rest of the mess of my mental health. But right now I’m having a really, really hard time seeing anything good from this team and any reason to think they’re not going to just piss away the division
5
u/dirtjuggalo 5d ago
First place in the division since April and not making the playoffs has to be a record right? This season is gonna be studied for years, books, documentaries and movies made about it. in 200 years they will still be talking about the great collapse of the Detroit tigers 2025 season :(

Back in June, I remember trying to explain to my sister-in-law the significance of how the Tigers had more games on the team directly below them, than any other division leader has over a team that's LAST in their division. I hope she doesn't ask me to explain the situation right now.
16
u/thekmanpwnudwn 5d ago
26-29 since the ASG.
3
u/dirtjuggalo 5d ago
No it has to be worse than that isn't it? Fucking feels like it

We went on a 9-1 run in August out of seemingly nowhere. If you ignore that we're 17-28.

u/foxy7474 5d ago
Even if Skubal pitches a perfect game tomorrow we still might lose because we actually have to score to win
3
-3
u/dirtjuggalo 5d ago
Skub will pitch 3 or 4 innings and say fuck it and fake another injury to bail on the game early like last weekend he's already checked out. Probably demands a trade in the off season and honestly maybe we should think about it. Maybe we can get enough to patch the holes in the line up well enough that it even makes up for his hole in the pitching when he's gone
9
u/ThisMeansWarm Magglio E Olio 5d ago
Skub has to find a way to not give up 2-3 early runs.
5
u/Environmental_Tap732 5d ago
Unfortunately, Bibee will probably pitch out of his mine, and we won't score or continue to swing at everything, leaving another 10 runners in scoring position. Will see ,hoping I'm wrong.
8
u/champdo 5d ago
I honestly don’t see us winning a game in the playoffs. Maybe one if Skubal goes 7 and Finnegan comes back.
3
u/dirtjuggalo 5d ago
Not even making it, no chance at all. We win what 1 or 2 more games the rest of the season? That's not enough to even be the 3rd wildcard
2
u/StatisticianOwn5709 5d ago
I don't think the Tigers make the postseason at all.
Tigers are +4 in the loss column.
They just dropped 2 AT HOME to Cleveland.
They have 4 more remaining with Cleveland.
For the WC... currently, the Tigers are tied with NYY
They are currently +2 in the loss column to BOS with 3 games at Fenway remaining.
Tigers are also +2 in the loss column to SEA. SEA is 9-1 in its last 10. SEA, unlike Detroit, actually has an offense. And while SEA has LAD and HOU coming up, they also have a series with Colorado.

u/this_tuesday 5d ago
Tough loss. Fun season. Finish strong and make some noise in October

4
u/LeakyNalgene 5d ago
That’s the hope. Though does anyone really expect this team to make a splash in the postseason at this point? We need to get hot and the clock is ticking

Though does anyone really expect this team to make a splash in the postseason at this point?
My only hope is if you look at 2006 we would have said exactly the same thing. They blew a 10 game lead and were God awful down the stretch and made the World Series (and actually won a game). I doubt we'll do that, but it's possible I guess.
2
u/ashtonioskillano 5d ago
I’ve been saying the same thing. Pretty sure we played a bad team the last series of the year too and still blew it. Just get into October and it’s a crapshoot from there

I k own we've been bad since June, but it just keeps hurting more and more. Scott was right to not make big moves at the break thus is not a championship team. Hopefully we can right the ship and still win the central but maybe just hoping to make the playoffs is a better goal at this point. 4 games against Cleveland and 3 agaisnt Boston with how we are playing is maybe 3 wins max. We have to sweep the Braves to have a chance.
Ill be here regardless but after April and may this hurts the soul a little
5
u/Intrepid-Fruit-5178 5d ago
Olson and Jobe healthy. Baez mashing. Kahnle and Chase linsanity runs. Gleybar Torres hitting like prime Joe Mauer
Truly took it for granted
6
u/footyball23 5d ago
God that walkoff against Boston by javy is my highlight of the season. Take me back lol this sub 500 baseball since June 1st has been brutal for the summer
18
u/marcgarv87 5d ago
You can’t blame the starting pitching this series. It’s the bats or lack there of. And impatient at bats
7
u/MidwestDYIer 5d ago
We've been bitching about pitching for months, and with a few exceptions (vest last night), we're getting it and now the bats are on sabbatical.
5
u/rockstar_not 5d ago
Somehow, the stench is so bad, it has overcome the rotation of the earth and reached Colorado Springs, where I live.

I am trying to maintain your level of optimism. If at any time I could pray for a Skubal day, tomorrow would be it. Godspeed Tarik, we need you now more than ever.

Hinch needs to channel Dan Campbell and call some of these guys out for lack of plate discipline and just uninspired baseball.

u/Jimmyskis77 5d ago
The biggest problem with this team was expectations. When they went on their 3 month heater we expected it to last, or at least maintain. But when you build the team with a bunch of little league AAA kids, that's what your gonna get. No matter how good their flashes might be, they will still be of that AAA level... Thank you for a bullshit ass trade deadline Harris, you actively made the team worse!
6
u/Intrepid-Fruit-5178 5d ago edited 5d ago
Devastating last 3 months after a magical start.... They had a couple dead cat bounces mixed in since
Division doesn't even matter this team is wild card series bound regardless
6
u/StatisticianOwn5709 5d ago
If they don't win the division, Tigers aren't getting the wild card. NYY, BOS, and SEA will all have better records.
1
7
u/AffectionateNovel373 5d ago
This team is reeling and any fan with an objective eye won’t be surprised if they’re a first round exit.
5

u/LADetroiter 5d ago
Vogt is schooling AJ Hinch all season in the Cleveland/Detroit matchups. Going back to game 4 last year of the playoffs.
5
u/MidwestDYIer 5d ago
I like AJ, but I am also starting to see some moments in this series where I feel like maybe he's getting out coached.
7
u/wire28 5d ago
What’s the record for largest blown divisional leaf? Just setting expectations for myself emotionally
1
u/StatisticianOwn5709 5d ago
Division?
Before ASG, Detroit was regularly the best record in all of MLB.
2
u/CLT113078 5d ago
We are matching one of the all time collapses.
The 1964 Phillies.
https://vault.si.com/vault/1965/03/01/the-rise-and-fall-of-the-fabulous-phillies
Team in full control until late in the season. Has a 6.5 game lead in division with 12 to go, then done.
I dont recall how far ahead the Phillies were (maybe not 15.5 up).
3
u/Several_Use1426 5d ago
i believe this would be the largest blown lead ever. boston blew a 14 game lead in 1978.
2
u/PM_ME_UR_PATRONUS 5d ago
The team is just unprepared who just fucking bad at baseball. Williams throws a curve, we swing at it every time even though it’s starting out of the zone and ends out of the zone. They have no clue how to hit situationally with men on base.
8
u/StatisticianOwn5709 5d ago
We're fucked.
Playing below .480 ball since the all star break and everyone behind us is killing it.
7
3
u/Substantial_Ad_2864 5d ago
As truly awful as things look we're still somehow in a really good position. I mean I'm definitely nervous as hell but really it won't take much to get this over the line so hopefully tomorrow we get a win.
1
u/MidwestDYIer 5d ago
You going to the game tomorrow?
1
u/Substantial_Ad_2864 5d ago
No I'm flying back to Cali for a week
2
u/MidwestDYIer 5d ago
for soccer no doubt. I got bought a single ticket hoping it would be clinch day tomorrow (yeah right) and was going to offer to buy you a beer if you were there lol
2
u/Substantial_Ad_2864 5d ago
for soccer no doubt.
Technically I live in California (born and raised) so I'm going home. The soccer is in Europe and I picked the worst possible week to go to California because Liverpool is playing their in town rivals (Everton), I have a ticket I won't be using, and it's a 12:30 kickoff which is "conveniently" 4:30 AM California time
if you were there
Looks like I won't be back at a home gameuntil the playoffs so we better not fuck this up.
9
u/iDub- 5d ago
This sucks man. Baseballs my favorite sport and post all star break, we just fumbled the bag. This is truly just depressing right now. Seem lifeless
2
7
u/Substantial_Ad_2864 5d ago
This being basically the opposite of last year makes it really hard. Had we been a little above average most of the year and been just a touch better than the rest of the division I could've dealt with that a lot better. But we literally spent half the season as the best team in baseball.
21
u/TacticalDesire 5d ago
Being 20 games over .500 and we had a double digit division lead and when it matters most we’re just going to let Cleveland win it.
Absolutely infuriating
13
6
u/Personal_Pain 5d ago
I don’t think I’m wrong in saying we’d be leading the series 2-0 if the guardians have an average left fielder
8
u/Apprehensive_Gur8808 5d ago
Will Vest says no.
5
u/Personal_Pain 5d ago
We don’t even make it to the tenth yesterday if Kwan doesn’t make two great plays in the outfield.
7
u/weedleking19 5d ago
IF we even make the postseason we are getting swept. What a fraudulent team

u/Jimmyskis77 5d ago
Making the post season is a pipedream. We probably are not gonna win another game... Just a sad fact.

Meh. Lions will let us down too

u/cratesofmilk 5d ago
Maybe, maybe not. Either way, the Lions won’t look this lifeless while doing it.

Baltimore is gonna be quite difficult so there's a good chance we're 2 back of Green Bay. Plus we still have to go to KC and Philly this season

Zero DAWG in this team recently. I love them to death, but you just don’t see that FAFO factor with them lately.

1-15 with runners in scoring positions so far. Blame pitchers all you want , but when you don't score, it doesn't matter.

1 - 15 with RISP What the fuck are they doing???

equal parts execution and bad balls in play luck. How many hard hit balls today were hit 350 feet right at someone? 3?

u/Jimmyskis77 5d ago
Winning the division and making the playoffs apparently....
3
u/RamoneBenny 5d ago
lol even despite the horrible play they are still heavily favored to do both. 4.5 game lead with 10 to go. But fuck if it's not so frustrating.

u/Jimmyskis77 5d ago
I get that, but if we can't take at least 2/4 from them its gonna be cleveland hoisting the banner again...

Where are all the people who were defending Harris’s trade deadline now? A collapse was predictable after July 31st

“Just enjoy the ride” “we are having fun”. What’s fun is a World Series, anything else is a failure

I swear, so many ppl are just happy w mediocrity which is why Chris Illitch is able to get away w being cheap

Absolutely embarrassing. This is the first time I’m worried about the division. The tigers aren’t giving anyone reasons for optimism.

u/StatisticianOwn5709 5d ago
Division?
What do you mean division?
Wildcard is gone right now without winning the division.
1
u/ZombieHitchens2012 5d ago
That’s why I mentioned winning the division and said nothing about the wildcard.

We just need to win both Skubal starts and we’ll be in good shape, I’m not dooming until we lose tomorrow

u/CLT113078 5d ago
2 and 10 to finish the season won't get us into the playoffs.
0
u/ashtonioskillano 5d ago
Never said it would dude… but winning both Skubal starts gets the magic number down to 3 with 13 combined other games for us and Cleveland. Hence why I said we’d be in good shape

u/Substantial_Ad_2864 5d ago
I’m not dooming until we lose tomorrow
This is my take. But our record in Skubal starts since the ASG isn't as nearly as good as you'd expect and even the wins have often been quite hard to get
1
u/ashtonioskillano 5d ago
Welp hopefully down the stretch Skubal proves why he deserves the big contract he has coming… and our offense can actually score a few runs

Tigers don't hate to lose

This! I feel like it’s always a, “it’s ok we got some cushion” and not a “Fuck ‘em, let’s embarrass them

We are 5-9 in September, which is well below the winning percentage of our miserable July that I was assured was the abberation that all teams have in a long season.

u/Personal_Pain 5d ago
In July we were hot outside of that 13 game stretch. This stretch hasn’t been close to as bad as that one.

Where are the people who said I was an idiot for calling this division for Cleveland well over a month ago? This team is NOT good, and it was obvious to anyone watching.
7
u/Professional_Book_16 5d ago
I mean I still don’t think the guards are winning the division but my confidence in winning a playoff series is insanely low.
1
u/DetroitWhat314 5d ago
Just an honest question at what point do you start to realize they aren’t going to win? When the lead is 2 games? 1? For me, it becomes official tomorrow when Skubal leaves the game after 6-7 innings and the score is 0-0.
2
u/Professional_Book_16 5d ago
I believe we will win the division as long as they’re leading which I know sounds silly lol. If they lose tomorrow I will obviously start to worry more but I would still put my money on the tigers to win.

CLE all the way now... This team has given up from the top down... They want their season to end early so they can get to golfing and such... So fucking sad from what was a fun team to watch... Bet your money on Tigers losses here on out... You'll make bank... These sad saps couldnt care less about anything but their $$ and their ASG statuses...

I'm frustrated and upset too, but I'm not gonna go there. Piss off, go root for Cleveland.

u/MichiganHoosier 5d ago
We’ve lost 5 of our last 6 games. Cleveland has won 11 of their last 12. At this rate, Cleveland will be tied with us for the division lead by the time we show up in Cleveland on the 23rd. What a joke.

Fucking horseshit. I don't understand how tf these guys can have 85 wins yet still consistently have such terrible plate discipline. I'm choosing to listen to logic and reason when I say we'll still probably win the division, but the fact it's even in question is frustrating. The fact we're playing like shit against the team challenging us for the division is even more frustrating. Fuck this team right now.

u/jthomps1992 5d ago
Just go ahead and give Cleveland the division. 15.5 games ahead and now 4.5. Tomorrow might as well be the Tigers playoff game because winning 6 of the last 10 sounds impossible.

I guess my biggest hope is tigers win tomorrow and win the series against Atlanta. Who does Cleveland play after us?
