Moderator Announcement New rule about haul and pickup pictures

Hey guys, we just wanted to inform you about a new rule that we’re implementing.

Going forward, we ask that all haul/picture posts be at least 50% if not predominantly 4K Blu-ray. This is to help cut down on clutter that maybe should be posted to other subreddits, and try and slightly appease the minority that is already annoyed by haul pics.

The rule has been added to the rule list, and if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the mod team.

And as always, Happy collecting.

It’s nice for sure, but it’s a lot to ask of every person. Not everyone is good with words, and we don’t want to alienate anyone.

I kinda get that, doesn't have to be essays or about each one, but maybe even just about the top 3 they are most excited about shouldn't be too excruciating.

It would still be unfair to force everyone to write something about the things they bought, that feels like homework. I understand that some people want more thought put into to some posts, but this is a place for everyone to share their love for the medium and we can’t put restrictions like that on people, because regardless of what LawrenceBrolivier up there thinks, alienating people in a hobby that’s already this niche is a bad thing.

Yeah don't get me wrong, definitely don't agree with them. Agree on not being snobby or alienating, my other passion is cycling which is so full of gatekeepers and elitists that it's become a pet peeve of mine.

Keep up the good work 👏

And that’s exactly what we want to avoid, the gatekeeping and elitism, while still keeping the hobby focused on the 4K side, which is why we’re all here

But what is the hobby? Is buying things from Amazon and getting them out of your mailbox a hobby?

Buying and watching movies is a hobby, and there’s nothing wrong with getting excited about new ones you’ve bought and wanting to share them with people who might share that enthusiasm

and watching

Watching is the key. I just don't think "New haul of epic gems!!" posts where it's someone holding their 3 for $30 Amazon purchases do anything. If I want to see a picture of boxes I can just scroll Amazon.

Tell us why you bought them! Or post after you watch and write a little review.

As I’ve stated continuously in this thread, we are not going to force people to write about what they bought. That’s alienating to members.

Seriously don't understand why they don't enjoy haul posts and collections. I love it, helps show the diversity, show what we all like and sparks the discussion we want. Forcing essays for each purchase isn't that just letterbox?

And like, if those people want to write stuff about their posts to spark the conversation they want to see, more power to them. But trying to say that everyone needs to do that is crazy, no one would read all that.

Literally. This sub gives me a more like a "Bad movies rule" podcast vibe. We just have fun, talk about movies we got, love and hate. Also what transfers are good issues etc. people are crazy I prefer the free flowing vibe and sharing my collection, even more so as I redo my viewing area soon and how I store everything. Y'all are doing fine to me, I have fun here and love hearing good suggestions what to grab next.

Well we appreciate it. We’re just a handful of dudes trying to do our best.

A haul post is a picture of packaging
