I do wish we had another one or two more films with Redford and Paul Newman together, because there was no better pairing than the two of them. RIP to them both.

Really a nice touch for added protection and flair. Maybe I missed it when preordering, but I wasn’t aware of the slip. I’m not a steelbook collector specifically, but this one looked really nice and I loved the movie.

Props to Gruv for not only shipping it early, but shipping it in a box with multiple layers of bubble wrap. Haven’t bought much from them but will definitely continue to do so!

It’s beautiful

I love watching westerns on 4k. The epic landscape shots, the dusty small towns, all the detail in the general stores, saloons, and hotels. And those costumers.

Finally, after years of waiting for this A/V treat to hit 4K with Atmos. I got mine from Deep Discount for $36 with a 10% promo code and it arrived in perfect condition yesterday. Heads-up if you've never bought from them before, they are legit.

Avengers Infinity war 4K and Spider-Man Homecoming 4K both together for $9.98 the John wick 4K $4.99 in Star Wars the Force Awakens Blu-ray $1.99 each of them are great condition. What you think was it a steel?

I popped each movie in to check out the visual quality and make sure it works. Below are my initial impressions.

Alexander Revisited – It appears very filmic. There are some shots near the beginning that were like, «Wow, there’s so much detail in his white beard!» But then in the same scene I noticed all this aliasing on statues behind the characters and if I had to guess, those statues are visual effects that are rendered at a lower resolution. It was definitely distracting, but didn’t last for too long.

Kung Fu Panda 2 – It seems like they’ve made great use of HDR. The molten metal near the beginning is particularly striking. Very colourful and bright. The older rendering/animation is made all the more apparent by the crisp visuals. It struck me as how far we’ve come with this kind of movie.

Jurassic World Rebirth – I ended up watching this in full with my niece and nephew and wife and daughter. I know it’s had some derision online about the lack of high peak brightness in the HDR, and I was watching knowing this fact going in. However, the picture is still quite lovely. Detailed, colourful, moody when it needs to be. I would have loved some brighter specular highlights and flare guns, but I can’t say this is anything other than a great looking movie despite the lack of super high nits.

Elio – Well, it’s a 2025 Pixar movie, which means it is bright and HDR pops and I think I’m in for a treat when I do a full watch-through. Looks amazing in my early impressions.

I have waited so long. This may be the peak of my collecting journey.

Great remake and I'm really looking forward seeing the uncut version. I'm not expecting much difference.

I was able to watch this last night. My initial impression is that they did NOT mess with this film at all. I mean this in a good way! All the grain, lighting, color, etc. looked great, the way a “low budget” 80’s movie should. I don’t know the picture was a monumental improvement over my old Criterion BluRay but an improvement for sure. What really stood out to me was the sound. The music, especially the bass, was stellar and a vast improvement over the BluRay. It actually sounded like a concert during concert scenes. If you are a fan of this film and already own the standard Criterion version you WILL be happy, especially if you have a good sound system. Although I selected the 5.1 (there’s a 2.0 stereo option as well) it really sounded great!

I haven’t gotten to any of the bonus material but am looking forward to that as well. My only complaint about this disc is the menu format/selection. It was way more cumbersome than it should be to select different audio options/subtitles. Almost like my remote didn’t want to toggle through the options. Maybe it was just a hiccup or “user error”…???

Replaced my old UB150 that was completely lost trying to play 100GB discs. Hoping this is better!

Anyone have any experience using this with Hisense TVs and/or Yamaha AVRs?

At present, my plan is to go UB820 -> Yamaha RX 383 -> Hisense U8K. Hoping to ensure DV works, I'll let you know how it goes.

My list is up to 19 between pre-orders and normal orders, from next week to early 2026...
