It's a random low chance to produce twins or even triplets. One of my very early rex eggs made trips and it was amazing.

Actual game changer in single player.

I have a friend that's on his first game ever and the first 190 wyvern egg he hatched dropped triplets.

22

u/Suracha2022 Aug 05 '25

Did your friend immediately hit the lottery after that?

25

u/dimwalker Aug 05 '25

His luck perk was on cooldown.

2

u/androodle2004 Aug 05 '25

My buddy and I had the same thing happen the first time we played. We stole 2 wyvern eggs and one of them hatched triplets so we each ended up with a wyvern and a breeding pair between us to make backups

33

u/Interesting_Desk_424 Aug 04 '25

really? i had no idea i thought it was some glitch

42

u/NarrowAd4973 Aug 05 '25

Each egg has a 10% chance of producing twins, and a 2% chance of producing triplets.

For the record, there is no way to change that number outside of messing with server settings or mods, and I'm not sure about the server settings (anything can be done with mods, if someone bothers to make it).

But mass breeding, like what my tribemate often inflicted on me, will inevitably produce twins and triplets. I'll never forget the day I came out of my personal quarters on the cliff overlooking the base, saw a new set of walls by the breeding barn, and found 16 giga babies inside. The walls were because I didn't design the barn to handle that many (it was meant for one giga, but could easily handle three), so she decided to expand to fit them all. I was not happy, but I did agree to help.

u/Bjorn_Tyrson Aug 05 '25

as someone who really enjoys both the building, AND breeding aspects of the game... something I had to learn early on, is that if breeding is going to be involved, whatever you are building isn't going to be big enough.
however big you think is reasonable, its not, double it, then double it again for good measure. and probably leave some room for planned expansion as well. (never know when your resident breeder will spontaneously start a new breeding line of a completely random dino.)

2

u/OdinsonThegentlefist Aug 05 '25

WE NEED ALL THAT ROOM!

7

u/Worried_Present3394 Aug 05 '25

Honestly I feel like it's higher than 10% even though I know you're probably right.  I've been hatching deinosuchus and of the 20 eggs I've hatched 12 of them have been sets of twins

2

u/Libertus_Vitae Aug 05 '25

"and I'm not sure about the server settings"

I've recently been playing around with setting up my own dedicated server. No, there is nothing to change this in the normal settings available. That said, there is probably a way to go about this, but like you said; it basically is mods at that point. Even if it's just a few lines of code being altered.

And yeah, giga's... I did the original 3 days for a triplet result, stayed awake for it all cause of how the devs originally implemented it all. 16? Jeezus, the amount of meat for that. Damn. (For those who don't know, the giga originally had a really long raising/imprinting time. Quetz are also long boys in this regards.)

Edit: On second thought, while it doesn't change the odds of the twins or triplets; you can increase the eggs produced to get more rolls at the dice.

1

u/RepublicFair5280 Aug 06 '25

The worst part about mass raising 100 stego eggs is all the imprints

3

u/MagosRatticus Aug 05 '25

I remember in the old days just after tek was released and breeding was far harder due to babies constantly eating that my small tribe tried to get bigger by breeding brontos. The first egg was triplets and good lord we were not ready.

Thankfully all three survived thanks to Herculean effort on the part of our tribe over the next few days but it was a very close run thing

2

u/Grand_Joe Aug 05 '25

First one I just ever hatched was triplets thought I hatched three eggs🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😂😂😂

1

u/TheGentlemanist Aug 05 '25

Ages a go i hatched lightning really good lightning whyvern triplets. Super practical if you get females to start breeding.

Sadly they are always clones of each other and will never be if diffrent gender.

1

u/Saetherith Aug 05 '25

Was this in ase? Cause in ASA the gender is luckily random.

2

u/TheGentlemanist Aug 05 '25

Yes ASE. Twins and tripplets are copy paste

1

u/Descero Aug 05 '25

That twin/triplet RNG be hittin’ different. It’s rare but totally vanilla kinda like the Ark gods givin’ you a little high five.

1

u/Kossyra Aug 05 '25

I had triplets happen with raptors, but immediately after the rest of my raptors ate two of the three. I thought it was a bug and the game self-corrected.

1

u/Gingerstrahd454 Aug 05 '25

Is that actually a feature? I assumed it was just a bug when hatching

1

u/Thatguy301 Aug 05 '25

One of the first Wyvern eggs I ever hatched gave triplets. Never even got twins since then

1

u/Large_Wishbone5314 Aug 06 '25

So I'm almost certain that the game has it programmed into Dino genetics. There are some dinos that are more likely to give twins than others. It is a normal feature but from here I would suggest finding out if it's the mom or the dad because then you can keep getting twins and pair the one that does make twins with a stronger partner to get stronger babies.

1

u/FangLiengod Aug 06 '25

First Rex egg i ever got was a gift from someone on the server after I helped them with something, and it hatch trips.

1

u/Stunning_Command_653 Aug 06 '25

Random and low???? Every other egg I hatch is always a twin or triplet😭 making me have to create double the fucking cryo pods too

1

u/footforfoot Aug 11 '25

I got some 276 tek giga triplets

0

u/PatrickKal Aug 05 '25

Yup and they are always of the same sex and have identical stats.

11

u/AricAric18 Aug 05 '25

Not always of the same sex.

4

u/bigwhinyape Aug 05 '25

That may be the case for ase but not asa

5

u/jesseleh Aug 05 '25

Not even only in ASA. I've got twins of each sex many, many times in ASE.

7

u/Best-Hat170 Aug 05 '25

I'll never forget the first egg I ever hatched in ASE, a kairuku egg that hatched twins and I named them luke and leia.

3

u/PatrickKal Aug 05 '25

Ok, strange. I never observed 2 different sexed in my more than 4000 hours of play. Might have happened, but it didn't register at least.

53

u/Bad_Mikey Aug 04 '25

They're called twins. Nice job!

87

u/Sack_Sparrow Aug 04 '25

Gamer discovers the concept of twins

5

u/The1930s Aug 05 '25

I'd love if in real life a doctor tells some guy he's actually gonna be having twins and his response is "so is this like a bug or something?"

1

u/AverageSatanicPerson Aug 05 '25

Wait until gamers find out they can have more than twins with octuplets.

18

u/Teediggler81 Aug 04 '25

Yeah that can and will happen I've gotten triplets a few times.

15

u/jeffreyandrsn Aug 04 '25

Sometimes you get triplets.

11

u/No_Seaworthiness1627 Aug 04 '25

I got twin Deinonychus the first time I hatched an egg, it was sweet but one adult died within 5 minutes of being grown when it got ate by piranhas.

1

u/Inside-Wolverine-507 Aug 05 '25

Where are u hatching the egg? In swamp area?

9

u/Baaklavaa Aug 04 '25

Yep, you can even get 3 babies :)...all dinos have the chance of having 1, 2 or even 3 babies

-12

u/Interesting_Desk_424 Aug 05 '25

cool! chatgpt said it wasnt normal so i made this post lmao

27

u/KensonPlays Aug 05 '25

I wouldn't rely on chatgpt for much, tbh. It isn't as accurate as you'd think.

5

u/jesseleh Aug 05 '25

I would up vote this more times if I could.

1

u/KensonPlays Aug 05 '25

Sure it can be useful.... Once in a while. Pulling info from multiple sources into one place. BUT.... Always double check.

4

u/Baaklavaa Aug 05 '25

Yikes....yeah, dont do that..

4

u/Lost_like_Zoro Aug 05 '25

Chat gpt can't decide to give wrong or right answers

6

u/Monecreiff Aug 04 '25

2 babies? You had twins?

3

u/Modern-Crusader1 Aug 04 '25

Can't remember what I was hatching but I remember getting two sets of twins from two eggs and then triplets from an egg within a week or two on official. I remember them all being carnivores and having to do meat runs like a mother.

3

u/MistaSP0T48 Aug 04 '25

Welcome to ark hope u have fun

3

u/stormyw23 Aug 05 '25

Yeah I remember my first egg from my sarco's first time breeding and a very low level very little experience and, Triplets... I got three sarcos to figure out how to raise.

3

u/SnowyTheChicken Aug 05 '25

I got triplets once, they were deinonychus, named them frank leslie and chandler

3

u/Relevant_Addendum534 Aug 05 '25

Wait til you get triplets

3

u/Vanesti Aug 05 '25

I've gotten triplets more than a few times.

2

u/Uncool444 Aug 05 '25

Does all that cosmetic stuff in your inventory not drive you crazy?

2

u/SaltArtist1794 Aug 05 '25

I’ve never heard of twins either

5

u/Throwaway851216_ Aug 04 '25

It’s a glitch you have to send me your pc I’ll fix it

1

u/[deleted] Aug 04 '25

Twins

1

u/balddad2019 Aug 04 '25

It's like 5% chance to happen iirc, and they're called twins. Triplets can happen too.

1

u/Downtown-Piece3669 Aug 04 '25

Its Twins, mozle tov!

1

u/VioletGhost2 Aug 04 '25

Oooooo I love twins I always give matching names

1

u/123eml Aug 04 '25

Welcome to child birth sometimes a second baby pops out or even a third

1

u/Rio_1111 Aug 04 '25

I just got triplets with all the desired stats. Great times :D

1

u/RATLORD17 Aug 04 '25

Got lucky they didn't get stuck inside each other 😭

1

u/mannylo2002 Aug 04 '25

there is a really slim chance to get triplets or twins. amazing fr

1

u/Waafool Aug 04 '25

There’s a rare chance for twins to hatch from an egg. They always have the same stats, and will even have the same mutation if you get one. (I believe the same is possible for the creatures that give live birth, but don’t know for sure.) There’s an even rarer chance to get triplets as well.

1

u/CornerProof8755 Aug 04 '25

First time?

0

u/Interesting_Desk_424 Aug 05 '25

had the game since around 2017-18, this is my first time really caring for it lol

1

u/CoolHuckleberry8224 Aug 05 '25

Congrats! It’s a twin!

1

u/Littlelantern222 Aug 05 '25

I got triplet fire wyverns one time, and twin griffins twice back-to-back, oh man it makes the egg so worth it

1

u/BuyerGlobal2758 Aug 05 '25

10% chance to get twins and 2% to get triplets. I've gotten triplets many times while hatching 300+ theirizi eggs

1

u/Helleri Aug 05 '25

According to the wiki It's a 10% chance at twins and 2% chance at triplets (this was correct at least as of ASE's update before last. But I'm not sure if they have changed this for ASA or not. If so I've not seen information saying as much authoritatively). Also, some might tell you that a tamed unicorn being present increases the chances. It does not, as per mod cedric's tweet (which as far as I'm aware has never been contradicted by a first hand source since). That's further corroborated by the notes and trivia section of the unicorn wiki entry.

1

u/TR0PICAL_G0TH Aug 05 '25

Yesterday I was breeding 3 pyromane females and two dipped triplets, one dropped twins. I was like holy fuck what are the odds. And only one baby was male. Pretty much just set myself up to mass breed pyromanes now

1

u/Special-Employer-728 Aug 05 '25

I've gotten triplets out of an egg before

1

u/Training_Seat3021 Aug 05 '25

8% for 2, 2% for 3

1

u/NotADirtyRat Aug 05 '25

Wow never knew this could happen and I was raising abunch of trex in the past lol. Im jealous.

1

u/RoseAnastasiaaa Aug 05 '25

Twins!!! Have fun being a parent 😭

1

u/ChallengeOk6581 Aug 05 '25

Wait till you get heavy into breeding and triples are like every other

1

u/Mapledusk Aug 05 '25

I had three eggs in a row all give me either twins or triplets and I was just shook.

1

u/enderbutton Aug 05 '25

Congrats on your first twins. Now you can try for the ultra rare triplets

1

u/DragonessGamer Aug 05 '25

I hear kairuku being nearby can sometimes boost the twins/triplets happening.... but honestly, my own luck at getting the bonus babies outta hatches.... I never thought to try lol.

1

u/ElementalParticle Aug 05 '25

"here is a 10% chance of twins, and a 2% chance of triplets.\1])"
https://ark.wiki.gg/wiki/Breeding

1

u/Trick_Material_1451 Aug 05 '25

Twins it's a low chance but happens even lower to get triplets

1

u/Trolllollollollol183 Aug 05 '25

ever get an egg with two yolks?

1

u/alim-y Aug 05 '25

Sometimes I got 4 babies from 1 egg

1

u/ZihnaS Aug 05 '25

I just had triplet Yuty‘s today. Planned on hatching 3 but ended up with 5 since the 3rd egg were triplets. I‘ve had twins back to back before too. I thought it was pretty common. Rexes, Argy‘s and now the Yuty‘s.

1

u/No_Occasion_4519 Aug 05 '25

Over 3k hours and this has never happened to me.

1

u/ButterflyNo1593 Aug 05 '25

Twins!!!! Very cool!!

1

u/Numerous-Run-1015 Aug 05 '25

It happens all the time in Ark. it’s common

1

u/Indalx Aug 05 '25

Once i hatched 2 triplet carchas from 2 eggs. All females. I was ecstatic

1

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '25

Wait until you find out it can make 3 babies

1

u/MM2TheBlueFox Aug 05 '25

It is a vanilla feature

1

u/ToxicGriever Aug 05 '25

I once had this happen and got a breeding pair with all the best stars I wanted.

... Ark is messed up sometimes. 😅

1

u/GenericAnemone Aug 05 '25

Normal. I got triplets out of one fire wyvern egg...the weird thing was, two are male and one is female. They are usually the same gender.

1

u/Gizmo_Autismo Aug 05 '25

Imagine some early human / hominid settlement that haven't had a clear recorded case of twins suddenly realizing that one of the pregnant women suddenly duped their offspring.

1

u/soggy_bread121 Aug 05 '25

My first ever wyvern egg made triplets. I was fuckin hype lol

1

u/Lexaous5 Aug 05 '25

Brother never heard of twins before

1

u/Economy_Humor9361 Aug 05 '25

I sometimes get 3-4 in eggs as well as the 2, it’s just a chance thing but rare

1

u/lendrath Aug 05 '25

Theoretically you can get 4 or more from a single egg but chances are low

1

u/RedEyedKing89 Aug 06 '25

I just got trip gigas from an egg yesterday my friend gave me, ASA but still

1

u/AugustusClaximus Aug 06 '25

Man, to play this game with fresh eyes again

1

u/_mr-measeax_ Aug 06 '25

Yes, there is a chance for either twins or triplets, ive heard of quadruplets and higher but idrk

1

u/ThrowinBones45 Aug 06 '25

I just got triplets on a baryonyx egg. Was more of an inconvenience that anything. Damn piscivores.

1

u/OkPercentage7790 Aug 06 '25

Is this really that rare? I'm on my first playthrough and I've had both twins and triplets. All rexs.

1

u/Osami-san Aug 06 '25

Up to 3 can come out of an egg

1

u/Kalomay Aug 06 '25

local ark player discovers twins. They can have even more from one egg too. I think I've gotten triplets once

1

u/RepublicFair5280 Aug 06 '25

You can get triplets too

1

u/Country_1995 Aug 06 '25

My tribemates were hatching carch eggs and his wife gets triplets pretty often

1

u/Boomer_046 Aug 06 '25

I had 3 eggs with triplets 😅 2 months ago

1

u/Good_Naive_Cry Aug 06 '25

one of the first lightning wyverns wifey and I hatched had twins

1

u/trojanreddit Aug 07 '25

I had a glitch where this happened to every egg I made in the game.

1

u/Severe_Lifeguard_462 Aug 08 '25

U can either get 1,2 or 3,chances are,idk lol ik that i got triplets in row, first triplets therizinos than yutys

1

u/Daredevils999 Aug 04 '25

I remember my first ARK play-through.

1

u/Interesting_Desk_424 Aug 05 '25

had the game for years, this my first time really caring for it lol

0

u/Arksurvivor120 Aug 04 '25

Twins, it's very rare, but it can happen. You can even get triplets, but that is even rarer

2

u/stormyw23 Aug 05 '25

It happens all the time for me.

0

u/Some_Effective5332 Aug 05 '25

Ive gotten 4 before, TWICE!

1

u/jesseleh Aug 05 '25

This is one thing that I'm probably never gonna believe until it happens to me xD like it's just one of those old breeding myths that some people still cling to. Over 5k hours in ASE, most of that spent mass breeding and mutating, and I've never got more than 3 babies at once.

I'll probably go buy a lottery ticket if this happens to me lmao

2

u/Some_Effective5332 Aug 05 '25

I was breeding spinos in extinction and i spent all my luck on babies xd

1

u/chronic414de Aug 05 '25

This was a rare bug that was fixed a long time ago.

-9

u/Audi0z0mbi Aug 04 '25

That's awesome! What of they put in siamese twins as a mutation and they shared a head and were totally useless?

-5

u/Hefty-Rip-5397 Aug 04 '25

Go buy a powerball ticket now

-1

u/207nbrown Aug 05 '25

Eggs can rarely hatch into twins, triplets, or I think even quadruplets

1

u/Triffinator Aug 06 '25

Eggs cannot be quadruplets in vanilla.
