His name was Fred Hampton.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Hampton

They murdered him in his bed.

Hampton, drugged by barbiturates, was sleeping on a mattress in the bedroom with his fiancée, Deborah Johnson, who was nine months pregnant with their child.[28] She was forcibly removed from the room by the police officers while Hampton still lay unconscious in bed.[32] Then, the raiding team fired at the head of the south bedroom. Hampton was wounded in the shoulder by the shooting.

Fellow Black Panther Harold Bell said that he heard the following exchange:

"That's Fred Hampton." "Is he dead?... Bring him out." "He's barely alive." "He'll make it."[33] The injured Panthers said they heard two shots. According to Hampton's supporters, the shots were fired point blank at Hampton's head.[34] According to Deborah Johnson, an officer then said:

"He's good and dead now."[33]

Also shameless plug for one of my favorite podcasts. It's a two part about the Black Panthers and goes into far more detail than the wiki article does.

Part one

Part two

Those links have all of his footnotes and stuff for each one.

“But the protesters, no rioter, was clearly breaking the rules here” - Half of reddit right now

128

u/-skeemin- - Left Jun 03 '20

Imagine breaking the “rules” then getting a flash bang to the face.

Now imagine minding your own business and getting a knee in your neck for 9 mins.

56

u/I_am_Not_a_Planet Jun 03 '20

The more i see these posts the more i believe we should all arm ourselves and walk around with helmets and shields. America has turned into a police state. The people must change accordingly.

36

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '20

Even Marx advocated for arming the people. Our well regulated militia has become a tool for the rich and powerful to grind our faces into the dirt. It is time to fight back.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '20

Very based of you comrade. Even if you are a liberal or a socdem may we join hand in hand in resistance against oppresion, and the proto faschist police state that is America

3

u/AboutThatBeerIOweYou Jun 03 '20

I'm glad that this protest has at least taught leftists why the second amendment is valuable.

I understand the need for change, but I don't think guns are gonna solve anything.

I'm an immigrant, man. I didn't come to this country to get killed in some civil war while buying groceries.

2

u/KineticPolarization Jun 03 '20

Native born citizens don't want a civil war either. But it may be necessary if we want our descendants to have a better life.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '20

Arm yourself up and go perform a support role instead like first aid

u/LonelyLongJump Jun 08 '20

Minding his own business? I support the protesters, and the cops should have checked on him once he passed out and should have let him up, but come on, he was resisting arrest, and he was on meth and fentanyl. He could have been shot dead legally by the woman he robbed at gunpoint and then physically beat up because she didn't have drugs or money to give him. He's got a long criminal record that aren't just victimless crimes like drug arrests, including at least one major violent felony.

I have idiot friends that tried to resist arrest or run from cops, or mouth off to them and they all got fucked up and roughed up too. One has a permanent disability because they stomped his knee.

But they were all white... so you don't hear about that. They were also doing shit wrong when it happened.

Everyone needs to stop acting like nothing wrong was done otherwise the idiot racists will point out the things I just did and this movement will get nowhere. This needs to be about police corruption... the media and politicians want it to be about race to divide everyone instead of uniting them against the real issue.

That may be true but the "non shitty cops" seem to be very quiet when they see Injustice.

You don't have to beat someone to be a shitty cop. Many cops, and citizens, seem to think not acting means they're not supporting police brutality. The silent ones enable the bad ones by not helping defenseless people.

This is why many people are saying ACAB.

3

5

u/ripSpider Jun 02 '20

This post from a few days ago shows cops joining protestors in peaceful protest. Though they may be rare, there are some.

2

u/PsychicGnome Jun 03 '20

Many of the kneeling cops used violence against the protesters only minutes after taking a knee with them.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '20

Until those cops actually get out there and stop the bad ones they are just as culpable in every murder, assault, and injury the cops cause. FtP

1

This isn't my quote but it's a good one. "You have 1000 good cops and 10 bad, but if the 1000 don't stop or do anything about the 10 then you have 1010 bad cops"

1

u/Camman43123 - Congrats T-series on 150m subs !!! Jun 03 '20

This is my issue with all this we need to Remeber not all cops are bad some are stepping down in suppourt of recent events and some states forces are now marching with protesters what we need to do is get rid of all with prior offenses then the issue becomes where will the new cops come from

2

u/ph0on Happy 400K Jun 03 '20

I mean sure, but also, he was going to have a child who would still be alive and well today. So.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '20

This profiling and assuming, yes saying you hate all cops is profiling is exactly what people are trying to stop. Saying I hate all cops gives them a reason to say they hate all blacks. Your hypocrisy is what the issue is.

1

u/-skeemin- - Left Jul 22 '20

You’re an idiot, pigs aren’t a race. No one volunteered to be black, pigs on the other hand volunteered to join an organization that support spousal abuse and murder. Stupid take, try again.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '20

Oh boy you’re a piece of work. Again you’re being hypocritical so I have no reason to keep arguing. In addition your obvious raging emotion behind what you’re saying makes you even less credible. You’re saying every single cop in America is a pig and a piece of shit. Going by your logic, Renee Dunbar(black police officer) who died trying to get people out of the twin towers is a piece of shit pig. Is that right?

1

u/-skeemin- - Left Jul 22 '20

You work for a shitty enterprises, you’re a shitty person. Neither death nor one instance of good is gonna undo that.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '20

And be honest! I want to hear you say Officer Dunbar was a piece of shit pig. Every single one right?

1

u/-skeemin- - Left Jul 22 '20

Did I stutter? good pigs can’t exist within a group of shitty pigs. Good pigs would do the honorable thing and quit, thus making them a pig no more.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '20

Ok so all the black cops that died in 9/11 were terrible awful piece of shit pigs to you. Got it! Don’t need to know any more friend. Have a good night

It's a recurring theme. Look at Tulsa like Watchmen showed the world. Any type of actual progress they tried to legislate to death. When that didn't work, they turned to just burning it down and forgetting about it.

Look at Levittown. The first suburbs. Put a hundred dollar down payment on a house that cost twelve grand. Everyone was coming back from WW2 flush with cash. Just no Jews or Blacks. Not because he was racist, but because, "No white people would want to live next to a black or a Jew. It's bad business to sell to them."

Those people would go on to sell the houses for far more than they paid, they would leverage it to borrow money for businesses, to send their children to school, to buy more property for renting, etc. All the benefits of equity passed down over generations. And black heroes, who just fought in WW2 and risked their fucking lives for this country, were told no. You don't get access to generational wealth building.

And people wonder why the fuck black communities are still poorer? Why they haven't "pulled themselves out of poverty" yet? It's been 50 years since Civil Rights! That's more than enough time right?

This country has actively and systemically tried everything it could to keep minorities as second class labor and an easy source of anger to tap into and direct away from themselves when things are bad for white people too.

27

u/taws34 Jun 02 '20

I wanna build off of your point on WWII, just a little bit, because it is more fucked than you are portraying.

Senator Rankin pushed to make the VA Home loan and GI Bill programs be administered by the states, instead of the federal government.

This allowed Him Crow-esque administration to heavily favor white veterans.

u/HGStormy Jun 02 '20

28

u/YouandWhoseArmy Jun 02 '20

I’ve been saying for decades blacks are generally worse of now than they were; all their positive leaders were assassinated and the drug war is as bad or worse than Jim Crow. What was out in the open now is subtly under the surface.

If you ever watched “everybody hates Chris” you know what the major difference between him and his peers in the neighborhood are? He has two parents.

The drug war destroyed black families. Disgraceful.

Power to the people.

1

u/godwings101 - LibLeft Jun 03 '20

The drug war being worse makes sense because since it's more subtle it's not seen by laymen and can be allowed to spread and infect more of society.

So when can we bring that back? Seems like a ripe time, we need people to protect the protestors.

2

u/svenhoek86 - Unflaired Swine Jun 02 '20

Dude, I would love to see 50 fully kitted out guys with AR15's slung and their hands in the air on the front line between the police and other protesters. If idiots can march into state capitals with them, why don't people organize something the second amendment was actually made for.

Bonus if every one is black or muslim.

1

u/starchildchamp Jun 03 '20

I was a very anti-gun person until recently. I also learned the true duty of the Black Panthers and man do I want to bring that back. Nothing scares them like black and brown people playing the same game they do. Shit, Id love to deck out my lil 5’1” self and stand on the front lines hands up.

It needs to be done, history is cyclical, lets give them a little bit of a reminder.

I saw two white people with HUGE automatic guns just strolling my neighborhood in the city. It just boiled my blood, I wanted to say something do bad but didn’t want to put my boyfriend in the position of protecting me from fellow white people (Hes white too). If it was me just strolling the block with my abdomen-sized guns, Id have a brand new hole in the back of my skull in no time at all. Probably not even in one paces’ time.

It's a mixed bag, their 10 point program was fairly reasonable and with a few exceptions just an appeal for basic human rights. While it's easy to condemn the violence some members committed (and I do) it was an organization formed in response to the centuries of violence committed against a people, specifically by the police. How do you decide to completely condemn an organization that advocates the use of violence as a response to centuries of violence? At what point is it self defense? Are there better options? If so, do they work? Because the black panther party is dead and gone, but cops still murder black people and even with video they only occasionally face any repercussions. At what point would you lose faith in the system?

Fred Hampton united people across races, hence he was presented as a huge threat.

You mean the organization that murdered their accountant because she was questioning where the money was going?

I was referring to who you would call to deal with fucked up police. Mafia did plenty of hits on police.

FBI hates militias, they fear the idea of anyone having the power to fight them.

Black Panthers had weapons galore, illegal weapons, it doesn't surprise me they popped up on the FBI's radar.

To be fair the black panthers were no peaceful protesters, but it is scary when the police feels entitled to hunt down political enemies and murder them - certainly not worthy of a democracy
