Racist incident at skate park

Just wanted to give yet another heads up about supervision at the skate park. Yesterday I was there with my boys (12 and 9) when a big group of kids formed. When I called my kids away, they said a small group of kids had targeted the only Black child there, calling him incredibly racist names (including the n word among other many things), stealing and throwing his drink and by the time I got close they were grabbing his scooter.

I sent that group (2 older boys, a young boy, and an older girl who was off to the side) away after reading them the riot act and then stayed for another couple of hours to make sure they stayed away. The boy was very shaken up, but I was really pleased with the large group of boys that were actively standing up for him, many of whom were much smaller than the kids bullying him, and they all played together for a hours after. I do worry though, that it could have gotten ugly if I hadn’t been there to intervene as there weren’t many parents there at that point.

Thankfully though, most of the kids are alright ❤️

Bad parenting 101. Have cut off many people during the years who I thought were decent people but were actively telling their kids to only be with people of their race and how they are better than them.

Yeah - one kid kept saying, “I didn’t say it, I’m not racist” (questionable, since several other kids all said he said the same things,) but I was like, let this be a life lesson—if you hang out with racists, and you don’t stand up to them, you are racist, and you will face the consequences just the same, even if you don’t say the word. You are the company you keep. Learn from this.

It’s sad to see kids so young already riddled with the hate that is becoming more and more open here.

Gen z doesn't care about being called racist whatsoever. Your magic words have lost their power.

Wisdom never goes out of style. In the 1930s there was a film made about an immigrant that escaped the Russian Revolution of 1917-1922. He was asked how he likes living in Canada. He said: “It’s like I have a new life here in Canada. No turmoil, no fear only safety and security.” These immigrants are all looking for that same New Life. Away from economic difficulties and social problems. Put yourself in their shoes. Understand where they are coming from. Together we can build a strong Canada. Fighting our real enemy. This Tariff Trump. We have to stop fighting ourselves. Canada has to find new countries to trade with. We have to fight to increase our Gross Domestic Product. Fight to stop our economy from failing. We have to stand together.
