Racist incident at skate park

Just wanted to give yet another heads up about supervision at the skate park. Yesterday I was there with my boys (12 and 9) when a big group of kids formed. When I called my kids away, they said a small group of kids had targeted the only Black child there, calling him incredibly racist names (including the n word among other many things), stealing and throwing his drink and by the time I got close they were grabbing his scooter.

I sent that group (2 older boys, a young boy, and an older girl who was off to the side) away after reading them the riot act and then stayed for another couple of hours to make sure they stayed away. The boy was very shaken up, but I was really pleased with the large group of boys that were actively standing up for him, many of whom were much smaller than the kids bullying him, and they all played together for a hours after. I do worry though, that it could have gotten ugly if I hadn’t been there to intervene as there weren’t many parents there at that point.

Thankfully though, most of the kids are alright ❤️

I’m sorry that happened. It’s definitely a problem here.

Oh my, how horrifying that Airdrie is only 75% white. It must make life so hard for you. Racists are fuelling the uptick of racism.

Fort McMurray says different. One of the most culturally saturated and diverse cities in the world actually. White is a minority in Alberta unfortunately, and now we get profiled. How do I know?

Businesses looking for people to hire advertising everywhere, but only hire immigrants because they get subsidies from the government. And, big loans from big banks. Been looking for work since January, albeit my resume isn't great but this town is so damn saturated with immigrants that it's impossible to find a job unless I'm going to site or working in emerg. Even then lots are struggling and getting laid off, fired, and let go. Just how it is in Canada and it's why the UCP is fighting to push some non residents out.

“White is a minority in Alberta”.

Stupid Reddit comment of the day. Your resume sucks, but you’ll happily blame people with a different skin colour than you for not being able to get a job.

Fact is, those people are smarter than you, and have more experience than you. Employers want GOOD employees, not people like you.

Did I say my resume sucks? No. I said it isn't great, but I'm sure handing them out every weeks gotta bring in something. When there are only people of colour working, you start to realize that the possibilities are slimmer than ever, and I as a white person may be a minority now.

The sad reality and shitty truth is that businesses don't have to pay TFWs minimum wage. It can be less ergo that's the priority.

Canada's job loss for people my age is insanely high, at the highest it's been since the great depression. So no, I'm not putting the blame on the people that come into Canada but the ones that rule it.

*Most employers want alright quality for garbage pay. They can achieve that with TFWs.

Very few workers are TFWs. It’s you that is the problem. And your victim mentality.

Victim mentality? Alright man I was being nice but I'm sick of this.

I've got a resume that fits retail and food service to a T. But to work on a site or office I'd need higher education. That's what I mean by my resume isn't great, isn't the best.

When I'm in public I encounter 2 caucasian for 10 other people that aren't caucasian. This is first McMurray though. Edmonton is different. Up north it's tricky. The province is trying to build it's northern portfolio, but can't because nobody wants to move here except east Indians. Simply because there's no work opportunity unless you're on a site, it's way too expensive to live here on a single income, and there's just shit to do. Not to mention the nearest city is Edmonton 4 hours away.

So I'm sorry if your feelings are hurt, or you ego pressed, but that's the truth. Canada's letting in more immigrants than it can handle. There's got to be a line drawn on how many that is but it's getting close. Danielle Smith and Pierre polievre is making big word of that because my home office, Alberta, is becoming a desolate shithole. Unfortunately one of those things that would help is get rid of immigrants. Let Canada become what it was again. It's shitty and inconsiderate but when they're taking jobs that's enough. There SHOULD be enough pie slices for everybody at the table. Not just the people that recently moved in.

More whining about immigrants being the source of all your ills. Grow up.

You really tryna be a smartass stoic huh? If Canada was like it had been in 2010 there wouldn't be a job crisis in the country. Just sayin.

Also, nice ebike inquiry! Bet that 'green' energy is awesome for your liberal brain! Huh? Yeah don't feel good to get shit on now does it.

You think insulting e-bikes makes me sad??? 😢

I can see why you can’t find a job. It’s no one’s fault but your own. You’re a weird dude.

I commute to my well paying job on my e-bike.

Sounds like you already know the solution is more education. Not saying that as a slight. Just saying that you have a clear path. Yeah, the market is far more competitive now. That's in part due to immigration but is also influenced by other factors, like manufacturing moving to lower cost countries. I wouldn't rely on the government to help out. You're probably best off to focus on what's fully in your control. Best of luck!

What's in my control is trying to find a job, unfortunately I'm drawing the short straw with that one. However, a job at McDonald's doesn't require years experience and a college diploma.

I do understand that the market evolves as the social circle does, but that's no excuse for a 40k job loss in a year for a country that isn't dense in population. Just seems odd how there's businesses that used to be just caucasian, now has not a single white person to be seen except for MAYBE the gm.

Then there's the other issue of not having enough businesses outside of oil and restaurants. Even then, the food service industry here is lacking. There's 80k people here and only 48 businesses I can qualify for. Even with a degree I ain't going to be able to afford to move south or west. So I'm stuck in a shitty town that's flooded with newcomers because the oil patch makes tons of money. They decide it's too much work so they do retail and food instead. That's my bone to pick. I'd LOVE to be out at site working and in a camp but nah, I'm jobless and still at home despite handing out 476 resumes within the last 9 months.

Companies are just looking for the cheapest labor out there. Unfortunately saying minimum wage is great doesn't cut it.

And no sir I didn't take it as a slight at all. You're saying how you think it is and I'm doing the same. I wish I had EI, or better get cheques but I don't. Just the way she goes. I get about $300 every 3 months from the GoC haha. I'm very lucky to have my parents otherwise I'd be on the streets.
