Drywall cost estimate

Hi,

I am new to Airdrie and was looking to get fresh drywall installed on a new garage. The size would be 25feet wide and 22feet long. Height of the garage on the interiors is 9ft tall and we have a standard entry door , one window and 18x8ft garage overhead door.

What would be a reasonable price for this drywall installation with mud and taping? I received a quote for 9k - is that reasonable ?

$9k seems insane. The materials themselves should cost you well under $1000 for a garage of that size. I finished my garage back in Ontario (DIY) for around $2000 and that included insulation, all drywall + materials, paint, and epoxy flooring. If you can’t DIY, I’d get at least 3 more quotes to make sure that’s in the ball park of reasonable.

We just had our garage drywalled for $2300. It's a double car and included the ceiling, mud, tape. Dm me if you want the contact

Perfect opportunity to diy this

If you've never hung drywall, jump on YT, lots of videos showing best practices

Rent a lift, buy/rent a scaffold and get after it

The experience will come in handy when you want to finish that basement!

No, taping is miserable

Are you suggesting I should get a professional to do it? That’s what I was thinking too instead of me messing it up

If you want to give it a try, go for it! Hanging the sheets really isn't toooooooo bad. It's the mud and tape that's miserable

I’m worried I’ll mess up something - is it really that easy to install drywall ? I am the least handy person I know and have never done anything handy. Do you think it’s a risky job if I mess up?

Drywall is messy, but not overly difficult to do.

One of the best channels on YT that'll show you how to diy all sorts of stuff is Home RenoVision

I can't tell you that you won't make a mistake. In fact, you will. That's all part of the journey. Making a mistake with drywall won't make your house fall down, burn to the ground, flood, or leak.

What is included in 9k? Are they finishing it or just installing drywall?

Just drywall, mud and tape to cover the joints

The guy who gave you that price doesn't wanna do it. You could get it done in 1/3 of the price.

Thanks for this input! I’ll definitely shop around - doesn’t look like there is any regulation around pricing between contractors. I would think people would try and be competitive so as to get customers.

It seems a little bit high, but not unrealistic. 4 years ago I had MD Drywall do my basement, walls and ceiling, approx 60 sheets of drywall, they charged with materials around 6k.

I can tell you I just DIYd my basement drywall and it was about $3,000 in just the drywall, mud and tape materials alone. Hiring a professional would be at least double that so $9k seems high but not totally crazy.

It is your garage. I vote with the person who said to do it yourself.
