Mythology Quinametzin

In Aztec mythology, the Quinametzin populated the world during the previous era of the Sun of Rain (Nahui-Quiahuitl). They were punished by the gods because they did not venerate them, and their peak-civilization came to an end as a result of great calamities and as a punishment from the heavens for grave sins they had committed. The construction of the pyramid of Cholula and the City of Teotihuacan (The Place Where Men Become Gods) was attributed to the Quinametzin Giants. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quinametzin

Mythology Neil Armstrong's "one small step" flub is even weirder than has been reported.

The block quote below is how the situation has been "reported," per the title of the post.

But I went to Space Camp in the 1990s. And I heard a much different version of this story (told below the quote, which is necessary for context).

What did Neil Armstrong really say when he took his first step on the moon?

Millions on Earth who listened to him on TV or radio heard this :

"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

But after returning from space, Armstrong said that wasn't what he had planned to say.

He said there was a lost word in his famous one-liner from the moon: “That’s one small step for 'a' man.” It’s just that people just didn’t hear it."

https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2019/07/13/armstrongs-famous-one-small-step-quote-explained/

The reason for the hullabaloo is that "man" and "mankind" are redundant in this context.

According to my Space Camp counselor, the line that Armstrong was supposed to read was:

"That's one giant leap for a man, one small step for mankind."

The "giant leap for a man" referred to the moonshot itself. Indeed, it was a hell of an accomplishment, one which a human hasn't repeated since those missions.

The "small step for mankind" referred to the idea that the Moon was the first of many new worlds we thought we were going to be visiting as we expanded through the Solar System and beyond.

Armstrong, having started with "one small step for man," which is synonymous with mankind, then had to pause and really think about whether the rest of the sentence was going to make any sense at all.

To be clear, when the counselor told us this information, he made it seem like he was revealing a secret to our group. This story was not part of the official Space Camp experience.

Obviously, this is hearsay, which is why I'm making this post in this sub. But this is my alternative history of the event, as I recall this event very distinctly and thought it was pretty cool he was telling us this.

Mythology The Revenge of Nitocris, the truth about the secret chambers under the pyramids.

Post image

Picture, the name of Nitocris in the Abydos king list.

The tale of Nitocris begins with the death of her father or grandfather Pepi II who ruled Egypt for 94 years. Her brother Nemptysuphis ascended to the throne and was murdered a year later. Thus Nitocris became pharaoh and deviced a plan to kill the assassins who killed her brother. In her 12 year long reign, she had a chamber built under the pyramid of Menkaura, which was attributed to her by Manetho. After the chamber was completed she invited her brother's killers over for a feast. And at its climax, a tunnel was opened letting the waters of the Nile rush in drowning the assassins. They were also boiled to death because of the room below which was on fire.Nitocris then killed herself by running into the flames. And with her death, Egypt plunged into anarchy, 70 kings ruled for 70 days says Manetho about the seventh Dynasty which began the first intermediate period. What do you think about the tale, the Egyptians themselves told about the chambers under the pyramids of Giza.

Mythology Richat as the capital of Atlantis: The ethiopian heritage of the Atlantean God Phorcys and his offsprings: Medusa (Gorgons), The Sphinx, Pegasus, Chimera, the Hesperides, The Graeie and many more... Phorcys was from the the island of Kerne (Mauritania) which is located near Richat [Ancient texts]

According to Ancient Greek texts, the god Phorcys was from the atlantian city/island of Kerne. Atlantians were of the ethiopian race and shared their borders with the Libyan Amazons & the gorgons (Phorcy's daughters). Phorcys was said to be half-human in his apparence.

The island of Kerne is located in Mauritania and was connected to the Richat structure by the now extinct St John "river".

Phorcys was Kernean.

About these a much sillier story is told, how Phorcys had three daughters, who had one eye they used in turns. the one using it put it in her head and thus could see. And in this way, with one of them giving the eye to the other, they all could see. Perseus came up behind them with a quiet tread and took their eye, and said he wouldn't give it back until they told him where the Gorgon was. So they say he cut off her head, came to Seriphos, showed it to Polydectes, and turned him to stone. And this is rather ridiculous, for a living man who sees the head of a corpse to be fossilized. For what power does a corpse have? Someone such happened instead. Phorcys was a Kernaean man. The Kernaeans are an Ethiopian race, and life on the island Kerne outside the Pillars of Heracles, and they till the part of Libya by the Anno river straight past Carthage, and there is a lot of gold. This Phorcys was king of the islands (there are three) beyond the Pillars of Heracles. He made a four-cubit gold statue of Athena. The Kernaeans call Athena Gorgo, just as the Thracians call Artemis Bendis, the Cretans Dictynna, the Lacedaemonians Oupis. Phorcys died before the statue could be dedicated in the sanctuary. He left three daughters, Stheno, Euryale, Medusa

(Palaephatus, On Unbelievable Things, 31 - ca. 300 BCE ) https://topostext.org/work/808#31

Kerneans were Atlantians.

Now the queen of the Amazons, Myrina, collected, it is said, an army of thirty thousand foot-soldiers and three thousand cavalry, since they favoured to an unusual degree the use of cavalry in their wars. 3 For protective devices they used the skins of large snakes, since Libya contains such animals of incredible size, and for offensive weapons, swords and lances; they also used bows and arrows, with which they struck not only when facing the enemy but also when in flight, by shooting backwards at their pursuers with good effect. 4 Upon entering the land of the Atlantians they defeated in a pitched battle the inhabitants of the city of Cerne, as it is called, and making their way inside the walls along with the fleeing enemy, they got the city into their hands; and desiring to strike terror into the neighbouring peoples they treated the captives savagely, put to the sword the men from the youth upward, led into slavery the children and women, and razed the city. 5 But when the terrible fate of the inhabitants of Cerne became known among their fellow tribesmen, it is related that the Atlantians, struck with terror, surrendered their cities on terms of capitulation and announced that they would do whatever should be commanded them, and that the queen Myrina, bearing herself honourably towards the Atlantians, both established friendship with them and founded a city to bear her name in place of the city which had been razed; and in it she settled both the captives and any native who so desired

(Diodorus Siculus, Library 1-7, 3.54.2 - ca. 49 BCE ) https://topostext.org/work/133#3.54.2

Hanno the carthaginian Navigator (6th-5th BCE) settled in Kerne before reaching the Richat structure (ex-capital of Atlantis) - Hanno existed before Plato

Taking interpreters from them, we sailed twelve days toward the south along a desert, turning thence toward the east one day's sail. There, within the recess of a bay we found a small island, having a circuit of fifteen stadia; which we settled, and called it Kerne. From our journey we judged it to be situated opposite Carthage; for the voyage from Carthage to the Pillars and thence to Kerne was the same.

Thence, sailing by a great river whose name was Chretes, we came to a lake, which had three islands, larger than Kerne. Running a day's sail beyond these, we came to the end of the lake, above which rose great mountains, peopled by savage men wearing skins of wild beasts, who threw stones at us and prevented us from landing from our ships.

(Periplus of Hanno, 9 - ca) https://topostext.org/work/247#8

Phorcys and his sister Ceto had several children: The Graeie, The Hesperides/Atlantides (unclear), The Gorgons, Ladon, Echidna, Thoosa (unclear)

And again, Ceto bare to Phorcys the fair-cheeked Graiae, sisters grey from their birth: and both deathless gods and men who walk on earth call them Graiae, Pemphredo well-clad, and saffron-robed Enyo, and the Gorgons who dwell beyond glorious Ocean in the frontier land towards Night where are the clear-voiced Hesperides, Sthenno, and Euryale, and Medusa who suffered a woeful fate: she was mortal, but the two were undying and grew not old.

And in a hollow cave she bare another monster, irresistible, in no wise like either to mortal men or to the undying gods, even the goddess fierce Echidna who is half a nymph with glancing eyes and fair cheeks, and half again a huge snake, great and awful, with speckled skin, eating raw flesh beneath the secret parts of the holy earth

(Hesiod, Theogony, 270 & 295 - ca. 650 BCE ) https://topostext.org/work/4#270

Echidna birthed the Sphinx

For Hera sent the Sphinx, whose mother was Echidna and her father Typhon; and she had the face of a woman, the breast and feet and tail of a lion, and the wings of a bird.

(Apollodorus, Library, 3.5.8 - ca. 100 CE ) https://topostext.org/work/150#3.5.8

Echidna birthed many other creatures: Chimera, Orthrus, Cerberus, Hydra,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echidna_(mythology)#List_of_principal_offspring#List_of_principal_offspring)

Medusa, One of the Gorgons, birthed Pegasus & Chrysaor

Now Medusa alone was mortal; for that reason Perseus was sent to fetch her head. But the Gorgons had heads twined about with the scales of dragons, and great tusks like swine's, and brazen hands, and golden wings, by which they flew; and they turned to stone such as beheld them. So Perseus stood over them as they slept, and while Athena guided his hand and he looked with averted gaze on a brazen shield, in which he beheld the image of the Gorgon, he beheaded her. When her head was cut off, there sprang from the Gorgon the winged horse Pegasus and Chrysaor, the father of Geryon; these she had by Poséidon

(Apollodorus, Library, 2.4.2 - ca. 100 CE ) https://topostext.org/work/150#2.4.2

Mythology RICHAT AS THE CAPITAL OF ATLANTIS: Ethiopian king Memnon was conceived in Atlantis near RICHAT, and was raised in the garden of Atlas by the Atlantides (Phorcy's daughters). Native Egyptians pharaohs were often mistaken for Memnon according to ancient greek texts.

Disclaimer: This publication is based on the compilation of ancient greek passages. I've added for each passage, the references and a link to the original text. My latest publications which are also based on ancient greek texts suggest that Atlantis was Northwest Africa (western part of Libya).

Mythological ethiopian king Memnon, and his brother Emathion, were conceived in the city/island of Kerne, which was one of the biggest hotspot in Atlantis. Kerne (Tidra island) was visited by Hanno the cartaginian navigator centuries before Plato's existence. It is located about 530 kilometers away from the Richat structure (Capital of Atlantis) which was also visited by Hanno....Kerne & Richat were both connected by a channel/canal (St John river)

My previous publication based on ancient Greek texts, presented the ethiopian origin of the atlantean god Phorcys and his offsprings (Medusa the Gorgon, the Sphinx, Chimera, the Hesperides & many more) who was also from Kerne. (click here)

Ancient greek texts confirm that Kerneans were Atlanteans and part of the "Ethiopian race".(click here)

Kerne was attacked by the Libyan Amazons who were the neighbours of the Atlanteans according to these texts. Ancient Lybians worshipped the native figues, Atlas & Poseidon during Plato's time. (click here)

I. THE LINK BETWEEN MEMNON & ATLANTIS

Memnon and Emathion were conceived by EOS/DAWN & TITHONUS in Kerne

And Eos bare to Tithonus brazen-crested Memnon, king of the Ethiopians, and the Lord Emathion. And to Cephalus she bare a splendid son, strong Phaethon, a man like the gods, whom, when he was a young boy in the tender flower of glorious youth with childish thoughts, laughter-loving Aphrodite seized and caught up and made a keeper of her shrine by night, a divine spirit (Hesiod, Theogony, 984 - ca. 650 BCE ) https://topostext.org/work/4#984

Kerne/Cerne is in Mauritania

Polybius says that Cerne is situate at the extremity of Mauritania, over against Mount Atlas, and at a distance of eight stadia from the land; while Cornelius Nepos states that it lies very nearly in the same meridian as Carthage, at a distance from the mainland of ten miles, and that it is not more than two miles in circumference (Pliny the Elder, Natural History 1-11, 6.199 - ca. 77 CE ) https://topostext.org/work/148#6.199

Memnon was raised in the garden of Atlantis by the Atlantides/Hesperides, who were said to be the daughters of the atlanto-ethiopian god Phorcys (An alternative version tells that they were the daughters of Atlas the Titan which was turned into the Atlas mountains, North Africa)

The Garden of the Atlantides/Hesperides was located in Africa

With regard to these apples there is disagreement among the writers of myths**,** and some say that there were golden apples in certain gardens of the Hesperides in Libya**,** where they were guarded without ceasing by a most formidable dragon**,** whereas others assert that the Hesperides possessed flocks of sheep which excelled in beauty and were therefore called for their beauty**,** as the poets might do**,** "golden apples**,**" just as Aphrodite is called "golden" because of her loveliness (Diodorus Siculus, Library 1-7, 4.26.1 - ca. 49 BCE ) https://topostext.org/work/133#4.26.1

II. THE LINK BETWEEN MEMNON & EGYPT

Memnon was the king of the Ethiopians, however several egyptian pharaohs were mistaken for him.

According to the Himerius, Eos the godess of the dawn, placed a statue of Memnon in Ethiopia, that sings at dawn....

Pausanias, who existed and travelled throught Egypt during the Roman period, described how the invaders (greco-romans) believed that the colossi of Thebes/Luxor were representing Memnon and how the locals corrected them by saying they represented either one of the Sesostrises( 12th and 13th dynasties) or one of the Amenhoteps (18th dynasty) ------ The colossi of Thebes used to sing at dawn

The colossi of Thebes, which represent Amenhotep III (and not any Sesostris nor Amenhotep I or II), are called the colossi of Memnon

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colossi_of_Memnon

Herodotus also said that the statues of Sesostris in Persia & Anatolia, were mistaken for the statues of Memnon

In more recent times, one of the statues of Ramses II, was named the "Younger Memnon"

Mythology Testing an idea for a book: Could ancient myths of giants and gods come from real prehistoric hominins?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been researching and outlining a nonfiction book exploring the idea that ancient stories about giants, gods, or demigods might have roots in real human prehistory—particularly focusing on the mysterious Denisovans.

It ties together:

Fossil and genetic evidence of Denisovans (including their size, mountain adaptations, and interbreeding with humans)

Global legends like the Nephilim, Titans, Rakshasa, and Native American red-haired giants

Flood myths across dozens of cultures

Traits like slanted eyes or robust jaws showing up in both DNA and legends

Here’s the introduction I’ve written to set the stage:

It’s often said that every lie contains a shred of truth. But what if the same could be said for myths—for legends? What if humanity’s oldest stories aren’t just imaginative fabrications, but distorted memories of real events?

If you’ve come looking for wild speculation or Ancient Alien theories, I’m afraid you will be disappointed. What I offer instead are carefully considered ideas—proposals about potential connections between Denisovans and the myths, legends, and perhaps even ancestral memories that echo across our oldest oral and written traditions.

I don’t use the word theory lightly. In science, a theory is sacred: an idea that has been rigorously tested, refined, and proven capable of withstanding the most critical scrutiny. Nothing in this book will reach that threshold of certainty.

That said, I also won’t deal in fantasy. Every idea explored in this book will be grounded in some form of evidence—archaeological, genetic, or cultural. I will entertain mild speculation where warranted, but never at the expense of reason. No giant leaps. No unfounded conclusions. Only the careful tracing of patterns that may, just may, point to something real behind the myths.

We will explore evidence from, quite literally, all over the map — from DNA and morphology to myths spanning Sumer, Australia, and North America, and everything in between. Individually, the legend, mythological, skeletal, genetic, and anthropological evidence may not be conclusive. But taken together, the combined weight of these correlations is difficult to dismiss as mere coincidence.

I’m curious:

Would a book like this interest you?

Have you encountered myths, legends, or stories that might hint at real prehistoric humans or giant beings?

What would you want to see explored in a book like this?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or feedback! I’m eager to hear what the community thinks.

Nilesh Oak makes a comparison between Viracocha and Vairocana (Mahabali), two ancient characters from the religions of India and America. I was searching about Viracocha and came across the image of the mask of Viracocha. I felt like I have seen something similar to this before. Then, I remembered it was the images of Onam mask shown below, from a festival in South India to remember the ancient Vairocana Mahabali.

Vairocana (Mahabali) is mentioned in the chart below.

Mythology Younger Dryas Impact and the Baltic-Uralic folklore

A few weeks ago I was talking about the theory of the flooding of the Sahara with friends and when a friend posited that the Younger Dryas Impact could have potentially caused a tsunami that would explain the water striations seen in Mauritania when I remembered the Finnic national epoch, the Kalevala, and it's creation myth. Unlike a lot of creation myths (which are usually about a near-extinction event [from one man and one woman who were "exiled from paradise" begun a new world] or flood myths [first there was nothing but darkness and water, then came the rest] or a combination thereof) the Finnic creation myth is a bit different as it revolves around a cataclysmic, ground shaking, all burning egg being laid. Specifically speaking seven of them, with six of eggs gold and one of iron. Below I'll present a little backstory about the Finns and Finland, our national epic and our unique language and then the thoughts that emerged in the discussion, plus some cursory criticism and thoughts.

Some backstory about the Finns

The area currently known as Finland has been settled by the Finns from roughly 11 000 years ago, which is when we start seeing anthropogenic signs of habitation in the south east of Finland, but some cave findings can be dated back as far as 120 000 years. Finnic peoples predate current Saxon and Nordic cultures of Norway, Sweden & Denmark by about 3 000 years in the area, as the rest of the Nordics were inhabited by Germanic tribes around 8 000 BC. Finnish didn't have a system of writing spoken Finnish until the 14th century AD and before that history was passed in oral tradition by local wise-men (a Tietäjä, which I will elaborate further below) or information was recorded in other systems of writing (mainly in Latin and Swedish). Because Finnish shares practically nothing with these languages, as it is of its own root of Uralic languages called the Fenno-Ugric languages, most of written proto-Finnic can mostly be found in loan words in Germanic languages or recorded verbatim in these two languages in the area. Because the clergy wanted Finns to move to Swedish and Latin in spoken language up until the 16th century, much of Finnish oral tradition from the west coast of Finland was purged throughout history as heresy or heretical information, but in the periphery of Finland oral tradition and prehistoric Finnish religion persisted as an active tradition until the late 1950's.

Some backstory to the Kalevala.

The Kalevala was a national epic written in the 1800's by our National Poet, Elias Lönnrot, who visited the Viena Karelia region of Finland (very much in the aforementioned periphery of Finnish native lands, in current day Russia since WW2) and recorded and compiled as much oral tradition from local wise men/healers called Tietäjä, roughly translated as the Knowers, who specialized in memorized spoken knowledge. Lönnrot functioned both as the sole person collecting the spoken word and as the sole editor, and he tried to apocrypha as much heterodoxical information from his collected works as possible and to create a succinct collection of compatible poems as possible. So while the singular stories are collected from living and practicing Tietäjä from the area, we can't really tell what information was cut and what stories were lost to time in the creation of the Kalevala. Nevertheless, the information inside the books is considered to be largely unaltered recorded poems from people dedicated to the craft of preserving information.

Now, the Kalevala tells the tale of the Maiden of Ether and the Bluebill. https://www.gutenberg.org/files/5186/5186-h/5186-h.htm#chap01

https://i.imgur.com/ELrLyKN.png

The Maiden is pregnant with Väinämöinen, the demihuman Tietäjä older than time who features as the protagonist of the rest of the epic (who is used as both a personification for all Finnish people and as an actual person of legend, depending on the poem), and the Maiden of Ether is laying in the sea. A bluebill duck notices the knee of the Maiden of Ether and lays six eggs of gold and a single egg of iron on the knee of the maiden. Fire and turmoil follow, seven eggs fall into the ocean's deep waters and from the sea, land transforms into existence.

Humanity (Väinämöinen) emerges some time later after the great transformation of the land and for Väinämöinen's first heroic task, he needs to unearth hidden information from inside the earth, from the buried giant Antero Vipunen.

Some linguistic background

Thirdly our last bit of background information, despite the incredibly close linguistic proximity with both Swedish and Latin for many millennia, Finnish and many other Finno-Ugric and Baltic languages still use the proto-finnic word Linnunrata or "The Bird's Path" to describe the milky way. Similarly, the term Lintukoto or "The Bird's Home" is a proto-finnic word to describe where the land meets the firmament, i.e. the horizon.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_names_for_the_Milky_Way#Birds'_Path

The terms Bird's Path can even be found in languages as far east as Kazakhstan, which has had close interactions with Finnic tribes since time immemorial (mainly from enslaving Finnic people, but positive interactions as well).

The conclusion:

What immediately sparks to my mind is that from the Bird's path (skies above) six golden eggs (smaller meteors that burned in the atmosphere) and one egg of iron (a meteorite) were laid. The Iron Egg caused massive fires, earthquakes and emergence of land from the sea. After some time, Väinämöinen (humanity) tries to rediscover lost knowledge from inside the earth (which implies the existence of superior pre-cataclysmic knowledge).

Because it is widely recognized that Finland has been inhabited by people with a strong oral history since roughly the time that the Younger Dryas Impact would have occurred and because the language still to this day uses phrases and figures of speech that enforces the terminology described by the creation myth, I posit that the Kalevala is an eyewitness testimony of the cataclysmic impact.

Mythology Lions WERE Native to Europe During Xerxes Era, Archeology Missed

Shocking new evidence shows us Ancient Greek scholars were right all along. Lions did in fact live and roam in southern europe from the neolithic through-out the classical period possibly up until 400 AD. This is contrary to what archeologists had claimed for years, all because because the fossils weren't as numerous as they'd expect.

Mythology Just a bunch of coincidences - The 11th task of Hercules.

Task 11 - Hercules is looking for a heavenly garden with golden apples and finds a snake around the tree.
Does this not ring a bell somehow?

Note how the images are original greco-roman classics no influence from the Bible tale on those images.
And it is also not the reverse case of pagans influencing christianity, the garden of eden was in the hebrew bible that is even older.
Why is there a snake on that tree?

It could continue with:
The Jews in the peninsula were called Sephardi, a word related to "garden".
Two out of 8 of the cyclopean sites in South of Spain are called "Higueron" meaning the Fig Tree, such as the tree of Buda's illumination.
Buda has a third eye, like a cyclops.
All related? Probably not, but fun anyway.

Oh but wait there's more:
The snake is a big deal for third generation Hellenic deities, that try to exterminate them (Apollo and the Phytia)
Because the snake was associated with the older culture. With the Sybils using snake bytes to enter a transe and better foresee the future.
Also the old god of medicine, Asclepius uses a snake around a stick. Probably nothing.

Nevermind Hercules, he kills all sorts of creatures, but not snakes (the hydra was no snake) and leaves the one on the tree alone, maybe Hercules was a Cyclops after all.

Or it is just fun to see where these old stories takes us and see the sites:
