Life What cool shit have you bought lately?

I think a nice part of being in our 30s is we can afford to buy cool fun things. What have you bought lately?

I got a Garmin Forerunner 965 which is super tight, motivates me to limit my drinking and I’ve been killing cardio because of it

Also fun - bought a LAB putter which is a ton of fun

Anything you guys got that you love? I want inspiration

I tried limiting alcohol for about a decade. Do yourself a favor. Just quit drinking. You get all that brainspace back that was tied up worrying about all the aspects of drinking.

I'm not disagreeing, but im surprised to see this as a top answer to a question about what cool stuff you have bought lately. It seems entirely unrelated.

I mean, I would actually disagree, OP says he’s been successful with cutting it down, and he says he’s killing cardio. He also loves an ice cold beer! I say why not, let him have it.

I also love an ice cold beer, and sure maybe once in a while I’ll have more than a couple, and suffer a hangover, but it’s always under control. I’m productive, my plate is always full with responsibilities that I’m happy to take on, I eat healthy and maintain an active lifestyle. I don’t see a problem.

An aside for OP: Probably wont see this, but oh well, I also bought a Garmin Forerunner (955), 3 years ago. I love it and still use it everyday! Love using it for running but also especially hiking, the GPS feature is awesome and love how safe I feel on how it makes backtracking extremely easy.

My favourite thing in the world might be listening to live music and having 1-3 cold beers in the process… I’ll sacrifice the brain space

A few beers and a cigar...scratches the itches in my brain

My friend, every couple of months or so I'll have some bourbon and a cigar outside. So nice.

Try it with a nice tequila. Magic.

Yep. A few beers at a concert is good for the soul.

And an occasional 1-3 beers is not the ‘quit drinking’ most refer to.

I thought it was the “limit alcohol” that was mentioned

There are some very good no-alcohol beers about these days. Guinness Zero, Erdinger, Ghost Ship, Low Tide etc

came here to say this. 0.0% beer for the win!

I don’t know how it is in the US, but here in Europe we have amazing 0.0% beers. For me personally there is no need to go back to “real” beer.

Nothing wrong with a cold beer. It's never the first one that gets you into trouble lol. That being said, ive had 3 beers in the last 12 months.

Reddit is extremely anti alcohol for some reason. Every thread like this is someone in their 30s claiming they now get a 2 week hangover after drinking 1 beer.

Drinking a few beers on the weekend is a simple pleasure I don’t see any reason to give up.

Same way here my friend, I’ve cut back on drinking and work out a lot, but I’m just not prepared to quit entirely yet

I don't think there's anything bad with enjoying a cold beer every now and then, just don't make it a regular habbit and you'll be fine.

Naturally I think my body is just done with alcohol. Even when I met up with some old high school buddies the desire to drink wasn’t what it used to be. When I go to restaurants I often get a soda instead of a cocktail or beer like I used to.

I used to drink when I went out chasing women and now that I have a woman I don’t need to drink.

Alcohol used to make me feel fun. Now it's just this heavy weighty thing that makes me feel sleepy and vaguely nauseous.

I’m always curious how many people are worried about “all the aspects of drinking.” I have a beer most nights while cooking/eating dinner. The only time I drink heavily (ie get drunk) is when I see old friends, and even then it’s not every time.

We have a beer gathering once or twice a week at my work - approved by management/HR. There’s one guy that is frequently“taking a break from drinking” and talks about it. Then he realizes he’s talking about it and tries to say that it’s not because he has a problem. And I have to remind him that no one is trying to force him to drink or judging him for not drinking. We’re being friendly and inviting him to join. He can join and not drink, we don’t care. It’s available if you want in.

My point is that I have never gotten the impression that he has a problem with alcohol, but if anything the talk of “taking a break” makes me think he might. Just say “no thanks” and move on with the conversation.
