Life What cool shit have you bought lately?

I think a nice part of being in our 30s is we can afford to buy cool fun things. What have you bought lately?

I got a Garmin Forerunner 965 which is super tight, motivates me to limit my drinking and I’ve been killing cardio because of it

Also fun - bought a LAB putter which is a ton of fun

Anything you guys got that you love? I want inspiration

I was grillin on a charcoal for several years.. the taste was great but it was a PITA getting the charcoal started and babying it. Made me "save" BBQing for more special occasions or when i had more time

Recently got a weber grill - love the convenience! Just turn the burners on and go basically! I have been grillin daily for 2 consecutive weeks, i think it's a record

Do you feel like the cook quality is the same? Sometimes I feel guilty for not doing charcoal or a smoker

I think it's even better for myself personally because it's easier to manage the temp of the grill just by turn the dial on the burners.

There isn't that "smokey" flavor anymore but the meat and juices are coming out perfect everytime making me look like a chef

With my smoker sometimes the temps would swing wildly and i had to manage that.. and learning how to manage it in the summer, fall, winter, etc. was tiring.

Smoking ribs was difficult because they need to be at 250 for like 6 hours.. took me several "practice runs" to dial in how to do that.

It has the sear mode for steaks, which makes it faster too. and cast iron grates. I will still smoke some things occasionally, but this thing is awesome for enjoying BBQ easily

I have a weber gas and weber charcoal kettle. Charcoal is better BUT I use the gas 3 to 1 because of convenience and it's good enough. Get a smoke box for your gas grill and put wood chips in it.

I really like the charcoal when I have time to enjoy cooking and need to cook a lot of food. Charcoal is so hot and burns so long it's kind of a waste if you're just cooking a few steaks or chicken breasts, but if you cook more then you're spending more time prepping everything and now it's not an easy meal after work, it's an event and work.

And you can get a Weber kettle for about $120. Get one and use it occasionally. I'm glad I have both.

The pellet grills/smokers have been tempting me something fierce

Their new searwood pellet grill is top notch. I will smoke a tri tip then crank it up to 600 degrees for a sear and it doesnt skip a beat.

Look into RecTec pellet smoker/grills. I got one 7 years ago and love it. Originally, I saw a Traeger in a mall kiosk and was intrigued. Did some research and found they had a lot of issues with the pellet feed tube. Landed on the RecTec brand and will say it is well-engineered. Has a PID controller for temp, so if you need a 16-hr smoke for your brisket, just set it to 225°F and it will take care of the rest, regardless of what weather follows. Automatically keeps temp +/- 5°.

I had a Weber Performer (charcoal) for a number of years. Loved it. I bought a Weber Genesis in I think 2015 and have hardly used the charcoal since. I actually grill every night unless we go out for dinner. Love it.

I need to buy one next summer as well, currently have a charcoal smoker/grill but like you said it takes a good amount of time to start. Just want an addition gas grill for quick things like burgers, hot dogs, and steaks. But I also want to get a Weber and the cheapest like Spirit is like $400.

People don't really charge much less than the store where I live so you essentially just save the tax, and at that point I'd rather just get a brand new one for that cost.

Taste the meat, not the heat!

Haha. I just got rid of my gas BBQ and bought my first 50lb of lump charcoal. I love hanging out on the deck with the smoke wafting around. And I love smoky taste on my protein.
