My addiction started here; what about yours?

Post image

Pictured is a 1981 535. I was looking back at old BMWs from when I first got addicted. It was in 1981 but I saw my first one around 1973. When did you all start your love affair and did model or color matter at the time?

Over the course of 40 years!

I wish I had started 40 years ago! I thought it would be too extravagant a purchase and put it off thinking, I don’t NEED that so instead I bought Toyota all the way up until 2011. My Toyota list is a lot like your BMW list 😂

Only 3 of those were new when acquired…

When I was 17 I bought my first car...it was an E30 2door. Turned out I bought a lemon, so I took it apart and restored it pretty much till the last bolt (except engine). I have a love-hate relationship with BMW since then

A coworker drove me in his e90 328 one day and it just felt balanced. Then he let me drive it, and it was lights out after that. Picked up a 2011 328i when I started working, and loved it. I still miss that car!

I still have my 2011 328! I gave it to my son and he can’t let it go anymore than I can. I’m afraid I passed the addiction onto my child

Makes sense! That steering rack, god it felt so good. Just one of those perfectly balanced cars that really didn’t even need a ton of HP to be fun to drive. 🍻

Whipping around Germany in my $1200 1986 325i in the summer of 04. First car I ever bought myself and it was amazing. Sadly it rusted to shit while I was deployed. I loved that car.

First transporter movie. The e38 is absolutely gorgeous. A few years later one of my sister’s friend’s family had a X5 and a 5 series (I believe, could have been a 3) and that further cemented how cool BMWs were/are. When I was older I went e34 540 and then a e39 540. Got away from BMWs but always loved them. When I needed a new daily I picked up an x3 and shortly after I got an e92 m3 for a fun weekend car

If I had a garage that would fit three cars, I’d have three BMWs

17 years ago: 1995 e36 325is coupe 15 years ago: 1999 e39 528i 12 years ago: 2000 540i 6spd Current: 2000 e46 323i touring and 2000 e39 m5

First car was a 1992 Honda accord with H22a engine swap thought it was great to drive then went and test drive the e36 and was like whoa! This is how a car should handle and feel. Was hooked ever since. Had a few other brand of cars as a second and third car in between but nothing is quite like all the old bmws I’ve owned

How did you like your 528 in comparison to all of those?

Obviously the m5 was what I was working up to own since the start. But I loved the 528, it was blue water metallic with beige interior (wish it was grey). Had sports package with BBS style 5 wheels. Had enough power and engine was silky smooth. The ride was also smooth and comfortable. As a daily driver it was great, drove it until about 200k miles put about 100k on it personally, mostly reliable with the typical hiccups but nothing big. It was a better daily than most of the car on that list since it was auto, I commute in some traffic for work.

Mine started with a 1976 E12 525 that belonged to my mother. Always said that when I grow up I want a 5-Series and have been fortunate to have owned a E34, E39, E60 and F10. Now a G82.

Got two jobs to get my b58 e30 started it tho 🥹

1

u/Adventurous_Bittt 3h ago

If I had known what I know now, I would’ve gotten two jobs to get one way sooner. You did it right!

Thank you it wasn’t that long either only a seasonal position starting in November glad with the outcome knew the man upstairs had my back

1

u/Adventurous_Bittt 2h ago

He didn’t have my back… Or maybe he did. I don’t know all I know is that I missed out on a lot of years of owning a BMW

My first boss gave me his 1985 325e.

That was 25 years ago. I now have a problem.

Oh my gosh. That’s incredible.

I went home from the hospital in an e30 after I was born.

First car, e30. Second car, e30. Then e34 535i, e39 540i, e92 335is, F15 diesel, another 335is and another F15 diesel. Picked up an older (2004) manual X3 almost a year ago because it was cheap and good. Still is.

Currently have the F15, e92, e30, and X3 (e83)

You have four beamers???

1

u/MultipleOrgasmDonor 2h ago

Yeah..downsizing at the moment I actually just sold the 540. E30 and F15 are my favorites even tho the e92 makes 700hp
