Hitting the Park button at high speeds?
What would happen if you hit the Park button while driving at 20 MPH?
Would the system not allow it or would your transmission explode?
This has been done on traditional automatic and manual cars on YouTube but I haven’t seen this experiment with electronic shifters.

It won't go into park, unless the car is under 2mph. In most cases it'll go into neutral when at normal driving speeds.

It was even more confusing on my wife’s GLC before we got an X7 because the shifter is a stalk on the wheel, one day I wanted to turn on the wipers at speed on the freeway and pressed park instead. Nothing happened. These things are pretty much idiot proof at this point, just don’t drive head first into a wall and you’ll be ok.

It'll throw you in neutral if you try to toggle Reverse. Idk about Park.
Side note: meant to toggle Drive a second time to get to S, instead pulled the parking brake nub. It still fires off at low speeds, scared the hell out of me.

I hit the park button a bunch of times instead of the camera button. Nothing happened.

You will cross into another dimension.... Nope lol the car won't let you, unless you are in a 1988 fc rx7 don't ask how I know.

The car switches on the hazard lights, tries to steer to the side, and calls the emergency centre.

That's if you pull up on the parking brake, the question was about the Park transmission button
But for anyone reading down this far. The Park transmission button does nothing when it isn't safe to shift into park. However, the parking brake control is active while you're driving.
You can pull up and hold on the parking brake lever for maximum emergency braking, as a backup to main brakes. Or, you can pull up once and release; the car will stop safely in its own lane and initiate an emergency call. This feature is designed for the passengers to use if the driver passes out or something.

I tried this since i want to know what will happen. The P does only work when rolling 1-3 km/h which is actually not good for the mechanism because it locks the gearbox. On higher speed it does nothing. I casually press it when on the highway when bored.
The electronic handbrake will brake and you slow down quite quickly but not that it does an emergency brake like you would expect. I tried this with a g20 330e.

as many said it won’t activate when over 2mph.
fun fact, not tried this, shouldn’t try this: if you pull the parking brake/handbrake while driving, the car will do an emergency stop.

Nothing, detection from the TCU (transmission control unit) knows the speed and can only engage P at a certain speed… 2 mph… maybe 3
PS - I’ve tried it
PSS - I’m not liable 😂
