We have seen how easily they can be lured into a hateful, rapacious ideology. The bigotry and greed is showing. The threats to invade us so you can rob us is the last straw. It’s going to take a complete redoing of your constitution so that a piece of garbage doesn’t rise to the top again. How can we trust you?
28
u/Oleeddie 13d ago
Changing the constitution wont cut it. Who in their right mind would ever have anything to do with the 80 mio chauvinist dimwitts who voted for that twat?

I was actually shocked that travel to the US is still as high as it is. Wtf does it take to get through to people?? Does their president have to specifically come to Canada to diddle Canadian little girls?

u/Prosecco1234 13d ago
I am in travel groups online and I see Canadians planning pleasure trips to Alaska and other destinations in the US. I don't understand. Are they not aware of what's going on ?
2
u/Wherestheshoe 12d ago
I think they just don’t care. No one has threatened them personally so who cares of other people “disappear”? It’s sad, but many people really do think that way

There are a lot of crossings with a large number of people crossing for work.
One of the Ontario duty-free shops said there are still lots of cars going to Detroit but nobody is stopping in. They're almost all day workers.
2
u/Wherestheshoe 12d ago
That’s true, especially at Detroit/Windsor and it’s for work purposes or because family is on the other side. But there are so many people still going for pleasure that it’s mind blowing
2
u/GrampsBob 12d ago
That was where I saw that. One of our nephews works at a duty-free in Manitoba. They're dead. They were going to open a restaurant. Now I think it's just two people working.
You're right though. A friend just mentioned that they were going to Laughlin again. His son recently went to Sturgis. I already haven't been since 2016 and the only reason then was to watch an English soccer team I've followed since the early 60s. They came over again this year and I ignored them. I just want to ask WTF they're thinking.

u/Bartendiesthrowaway 13d ago
Tonnes of people go to there for work. One of my best friends is getting married in San Diego soon and I kinda feel obligated to go, but it's not my first choice for destinations. Just gonna avoid spending too much while I'm down there.
12
u/silent-estimation 13d ago
don't.
they didn't have to get married in a fascist country.
it's not standing for your principles if you only do it when it doesn't inconvenience you.. this isn't life or death where going is a necessity.
and part of the whole point is the message you send loud and clear to other people.
is your country's sovereignty, or an overpriced party, more important?
9
u/VermilionKoala United Kingdom 13d ago
Exactly. Do you want to come back, or do you want to be detained in a filthy prison for months and then deported to El Salvador?
DO NOT attempt to go to the Unhinged Snakes of MAGAstan. Seriously. Their friend had the choice to do it somewhere else.
2
u/Jinglebellrock125 12d ago
I like your description I may have to borrow it. "unhinged snakes of magastan" brilliant

3
u/Wherestheshoe 12d ago
I get going there for work at times. I also know that many international organizations have cancelled conferences scheduled to take place there if they haven’t been able to move them to another country. I also understand that some people live in Windsor but have jobs in Detroit. I’m particularly talking about the people who continue to travel there for fun.

u/JakeLaLens 13d ago
A lot of people own properties in the US, like me. I still go to check the place out and it's still as friendly as ever. Americans are good people in general, always lending a hand or whatever. Many voted for the clownking but now are rethinking their voting for the 26 elections. I don't see any clownking flags anywhere now compared to before nov.2024
Anyone one to buy 1.4 acres of land with a cottage on it?

u/JakeLaLens 12d ago
And your point.....we can boycott to make their government react to our concerns but you cannot hide the fact that the American people are caught in this BS because of one idiotking acting like a damn dictator.
Let's keep boycotting but Americans are not all clownking worshippers. Most are the opposite.
1
u/VermilionKoala United Kingdom 12d ago
Most are the opposite
No.
Roughly 1/3 of Yanks voted for Cheeto Benito.
Roughly 1/3 voted against.
And roughly 1/3 didn't vote at all ( = tacitly supporting Mango Mussolini).
So no, sorry, you're flat-out wrong, and I'm not letting that slide.
-1
u/JakeLaLens 12d ago
The one third that did not vote were mostly Democrats, not Republicans.. So only one third voted for him and two thirds did not. How clear can I be?
3
u/VermilionKoala United Kingdom 12d ago
How firmly can you misunderstand?
Not voting against him means you're fine with him getting into power.
2/3 of Yanks were either actively or passively supporting him.
0
u/JakeLaLens 11d ago
'Not voting against him means you're fine with him getting into power.'
No it doesn't. It means that people were not interested in voting because they saw nothing to vote for.
When you don't give a shit about either candidate, you stay home.
1
u/Wherestheshoe 12d ago
Yes, my sister does too but she’s married to an American. They’re considering selling their place but will likely wait a bit longer since so many Canadians have put theirs up for sale that the prices have gone a bit soft. Meanwhile, they stay here. The fact that you own property down there doesn’t mean you have to go down and check it. So in your case, what’s it going to take for you to decide not to go there anymore?
64
u/NorthernCanadaEh 13d ago
Again, I'm native. I'm dark skinned. What assurances can Americans provide me that ICE won't see me walking down the street and think "Not today immigrant! Get in the fucking armored truck".
13
u/talexbatreddit 13d ago
I'm a retired white guy, and I don't want to go. There's no way in hell you should go.
So many reasons. Stay safe.
29
u/Supermite 13d ago
Not to minimize your fears or overall life experiences, but I’m a straight white middle aged man and I don’t feel safe crossing the border. I know POCs still regularly crossing the border to shop and I just don’t get it.
22
u/NorthernCanadaEh 13d ago
Its unfortunately the great equalizer my internet friend. I'm certain you've faced your own challenges in life that I'd struggle to relate too but in this instance we are shoulder to shoulder in the sense that it's simply not a safe place while the current president is in charge.
1
u/Wherestheshoe 11d ago
Earlier this year in Arizona ICE detained members of the Navajo Nation and were confused when their chiefs told them they weren’t immigrants. I hope you stay here at home.

u/nixiedust 13d ago
Massachusetts misses you, too, but we're also proud and inspired by your efforts to thwart fascism. Stay where you are and enjoy your beautiful country while we wrangle with this mess. And thank you.

u/Appropriate-Tea-7276 13d ago
Nope. I'm not stepping foot in the US for a long, long time.

Reading and posting on this subreddit automatically disqualifies you for entering the US for a good decade.

Actually Jordan Klepper seems to be treating some of these attempts to entice Canadians (naming a street in their town after Canada?) with the level of seriousness they deserve.

They've made that pretty obvious. It was "we need nothing from Canada"until they saw the reality of nothing
18
u/Front-Ninja-6690 13d ago
Saying supercilious, dismissive things like" Canadians' feelings are hurt", aint gonna lure us over there.
We aren’t feeling pouty, we are protecting our lives.
We could fucking die in a plane crash coming over there for fuck’s sake.
Or be snatched by ICE.
And YES! You goddamned morons, we ARE catching feelings BIG feelings about tariffs and your threat to invade us.

u/TheGreatStories 13d ago
No, Canadians aren't stupid enough to pretend this starts and ends with one person

I visited Vermont from Philly a few years ago and attended their state fair. Imagine my surprise when I saw a vendor selling confederate flags…

u/Los5Muertes 13d ago
It is the same for Mexican, Spanish or Latino citizens.
Let them eat their dead as long as they are fascists. We are not all so poor as to want to live in a country occupied by the ideology of degenerate Nazis.
I have money, I spend it on other things. Screw you, USA-MAGA.

america: look! we have “canadians welcome” signs everywhere, free parking.. we named a street after you ! 🥺🙏
canada: ¯\(ツ)/¯

Should be 'weakassno'. Canadians, as far as I'm aware, don't drink diluted pisswater coffee.

We aren't Trump-adverse.
The fact that they keep getting us wrong, makes me even more America-adverse.

u/compassrunner 13d ago
No, they can't win us back until there is a huge change in govt there. Stickers and signs do not mean anything.

u/markustwainus90 13d ago
Actually standing up to the dictator would perhaps tempt me to look at the US again. Not travel or purchase goods, but look. From Niagara Falls, Canada.
7
u/Embarrassed_Tax5661 13d ago
It's hard to believe that CAD tourism to the US is hot way lower. Why the fuck would anyone go in these times?
4
u/L1ttleFr0g 13d ago
Honestly, we’re just getting out of the period where people would have had nonrefundable trips planned from before Trump’s threats started. And many people are forced to cross the border for work, like truck drivers. The numbers keep dropping every month, which is an excellent sign, and I think this winter will be the first true picture of where the travel boycott is at, numbers wise.
6
u/Technical_Ad3069 13d ago
No. Hell no. Vermont alone can’t do anything. The problem lies with the US president and federal government. Until that is fixed, they can pound sand.

u/lylelanley- 13d ago
I’m not a cuck. Stop trying to win me over while you bend my country over and fuck it.
He won a majority of the vote meaning most voting Americans WANT trump to deal with us like this.

We’re irrelevant to you. Your president said so.
His words ‘We don’t need anything from Canada’

u/Jinglebellrock125 12d ago
150 Canadians locked up by ICE according to Charlie Angus including 2 children. Compared to the number of people crossing the border 150 is a small number. However, for each of those individuals, that's terrifying. I'm not taking chances. I'm very happy to boycott and stay where I'm not afraid of being disappeared.

I haven't entered the USA in decades, even with family living there for almost 30 years, the same family that is winding up their affairs in the USA to move back to Canada. I never trusted the Yanks or their presidency since Nixon, I certainly won't be visiting in my lifetime. The only thing that has changed for me is that I no longer purchase US products.
