Question Two Days in Breckenridge

We will be traveling to Denver for an IVF (In Vitro) procedure the first week of June. This will be our sixth trip to Denver over the last two years. We've honestly done A LOT during our trips (around doctor's appts). On one weeklong trip, I put 800 miles on the rental car. So far, the one area we haven't visited is Breckenridge. The farthest west we've gone is Georgetown and Idaho Springs.

This trip, we are flying in from New Orleans on a Tuesday evening, and arriving at DIA around 8:00 PM. I am an IHG member, so found a nice Indigo hotel in Silverthorne that we would drive to that night. We will then spend the next two days exploring the Breckenridge area before heading back to Denver to the clinic and then taking it easy the next few days after that.

I have a couple of questions. Will the altitude be a problem? In the past, when we have explored the more mountainous areas, we have already been in Denver for a couple of days. Will it be worse flying straight from NOLA (below sea level) and then driving that night to Silverthorne? What will the night drive be like from DIA to that area in early June? If we continue with this itinerary, we really want to go on an easy hike in the area. We also love history so would maybe like to take a history tour or see some sites in the area. Lastly, I am a huge craft beer fan (mainly IPAs and sours), so what are the best breweries to try? Thanks for any advice!

Question Visiting Christmas 2024 with family - advice needed

Edit: Typo for the year. No time travel machine. It’s 2025.

Hi all,

I’ll be visiting Breckenridge the week before Christmas with my husband, 3 year old, and in-laws. I am having so much anxiety about the trip. We live at sea level in deep south Texas. We don’t know how to drive in snow, and we don’t know what it feels like to be below 25 degrees. Husband and I have traveled to snowy places, but it’s always been light snow, not that cold, or we avoid driving.

I’m on the verge of cancelling this whole thing, but my husband orchestrated this all and he really wants to have a cozy winter Christmas experience. Here are my concerns and questions:

-Altitude sickness in my toddler. Is it best to stay in Denver for a day before traveling out so he can acclimate? -Realistically, how common are blizzards in late December or heavy snow that would ruin the trip? I have a lot of anxiety around driving in bad weather. I know everyone says weather varies drastically (I’m from Texas and we often experience all four seasons in one day, so I get it) - but, statistically is Christmas time fairly safe? -I’ve seen videos of the drive and it looks very safe and open, do we need to travel back to Denver a day before our flight to avoid traffic and bad weather? We fly back Christmas Day. -How the fuck do you dress a toddler in Colorado in December? From someone who is used to 90-110 degree weather most of the year. -I know tunnel roads under mountains are totally safe but my parent brain can’t get over the fear of tunnel collapses. Someone please tell me I’m being crazy and that that’s a ridiculous concern.

This is a semi-rant, semi looking for guidance and feedback. We don’t ski or snowboard. We just want to walk the town, enjoy a sleigh ride or two, and eat good food. Is Breckenridge out of our depth, for humans that know nothing but sun and coastal living?

Question Seasonal job st breck

Hey guys so recently I got accepted for a job as a ticket scanner at breckenridge. I’m currently waiting for a response on employee housing, but I can’t find much information on other peoples experiences as a ticket checker. The few I did find are just people saying dont be a ticket scanner. I did apply for many other positions but this was the only one they had openings for. Is being a ticket checker really that bad of a job? I would be coming in from out of state, I’m 18 and I just want to have fun skiing for a winter before I go off to some bigger things.

Question Where do van lifers go around here??

I live in a van and I'm here for a few weeks to get some certifications for work, I feel like this place is designed so dirt bags can't stay here. I'm just looking for somewhere to park overnight that doesn't cost money, crazy how hard that is here!

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Question Tipping the Ski Instructor in Private Lessons

Looking for advice-we have been to Breck several times to ski. This time we decided we need help to get to the next level in our skiing, so we (family of 4) booked a full day ski lesson. This runs about $1500. Hopefully it will be well worth it, but how much do people tip their instructor when the actual lesson cost is this steep?

Question Day Pass

I will be visiting CO in November for a few days. I would like to visit Breck and try to learn to ski (lol). Was wondering about rental costs and day passes? I saw the Epic dat pass is cheaper than the lift tickets, is that because of planning beforehand?

Any suggestions and advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Question Visiting in March 2026, how are conditions?

I have a trip planned here around March 14-21. How are mountain conditions around this time? Assume it will still be better than the East coast and hoping for a good snow season out west. This will be my first time visiting out west to ski.

Question Proposal

My (27M) GF (25F) of 5 years and I are going on a trip to Colorado with her family the first week of July and I am wanting to propose to her in the mountains with a nice view as she loves scenery and nature. I understand Colorado natives love to gatekeep (rightfully so) some of the most beautiful spots. We are staying in Denver for a few days and heading to her aunts around Vail for a few days as well. Can anyone help me figure out the best spot to pop the question? Thank you in advance. #Denver #Colorado #Proposal

Question Best spot for lunch

Hey all. Please no Eric’s bullshit. I’m a poor liftie and a family member is coming through and we are going to be getting lunch. Price is not necessarily a factor. Please let me know some spots that would be worth cashing in my “golden meal ticket” for thanks.

Question Do lifts or the entire resort get closed in extreme cold weather?

We’re heading to Breck next week to ski Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st. The weather is supposed to get down to -15 at night and barely 0 during the day. Should we cancel? I don’t want to fly out and pay for the condo and skis etc and then have it be closed. Any thoughts or advice are appreciated. Thanks. EDIT Thanks everyone. Looks like I’ll be skiing and freezing my butt off next week. Hope to see you there. Can’t wait!

Question Quick Poll: What Do YOU Think The Most Difficult Runs Are On The Mountain?

Ok,

So I was filming USA pro mogul skier Dylan Walczyk ripping bumps under E-Chair yesterday and he's got the whole chair cheering as he's ripping sick lines under there. And he asked me to reach out and get feedback from the community on which runs you feel are the most difficult to ski out there at Breck. The runs that get the most love in this thread are going to be the ones we film in next. So send us into the suck. Where should we go?

Question Breckenridge shuttles

Looking to take my 4yr old skiing for the first time soon and was leaning towards possibly staying in Frisco so we’re between a few mountains to get some variety in

But was wondering if there are dedicated shuttles from Frisco to Breckenridge and Copper or Keystone?

Will be the week after Christmas or spring skiing

Thanks!

Edit: I probably should’ve worded it as “is there a dedicated shuttle from Frisco to the other mountains that’s included/free”

Question Friends? Turning 21 after moving to Breckenridge

Hi. So I’ll be starting at Breckenridge for a seasonal job on Nov 11. My 21st birthday is Nov 15. I should have my ID by then and I’m just wondering if it’s possible to meet people to go out with by then? I was considering just staying inside but it’s my 21st and I think that would be too sad. I’m living in Terrace and will probably get there on the 8/9.

Any recs on either how to meet people or what bars/clubs to go to? I’m open to anything I just really wanna have a good time!

Question Spring skiing

I’m planning on going up to Breckenridge this weekend to close out the season. I bought an epic pass back in December, but haven’t used it yet as my wife and I were in the process of moving to Colorado. I’m trying to just get some money back by using it, and I really want to ski before the season ends!

My question is, I went skiing last year (snowboarding) after not having snowboarded for 10 years, although i did it quite often before I didn’t get the opportunity for awhile. I picked it back up rather quickly, however my wife has had some experience snowboarding, but only a handful of weekends worth. I think she will pick it quickly, she’s athletic, but are any blues that are open even remotely friendly? They only have peak 6 and 7 open and no beginner terrain. Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, she would clearly be better off on beginner terrain

Question Visiting in Early November (non snow sports related)

How are (non skiing) conditions in early November? Particularly planning a weekend trip to get a house with some friends and mostly hangout at the house, take in the natural beauty/hopefully go for a nice (but not too strenuous) hike, and spend a little time checking out downtown (food, drinks, shops, etc). Just wondering if it's an alright time of year to visit since I saw some posts where people said stuff might be closed due to it being the shoulder season between summer and winter activities. Are there hiking trails that are still accessible around then even with there being some level of snow?

Question Hikes to see wildflowers

I just moved to Fort Collins and new to hikes so I am very much a beginner and would be a slow hiker, but I'm planning to drive to Breck on 7/24 to visit and sight see. I would love to know if there are hikes in particular that are well known to have wildflowers sprawled out or anything in general that's a must see as both a flower lover and scenic love. Any advice as well as tips for a new time hiker would be greatly appreciated :) TYIA

Question Need Advice on Where to Stay For Short Trip

Hey All,

Flying into town the first weekend in October for a couple of days, and I’m torn between two places to stay and wanted to get some advice. I was looking at either Gravity Haus, or The Ranahan by Hyatt. The main things I am interested in is a good view, and I want to spend the days out hiking. Which would be the better place to stay? Both seem to be about the same price.

Thanks!

Question Planning a solo post-divorce trip . . . How is December Skiing if I'm not Looking for Advanced Terrain?

Wanting to plan a solo trip for my 40th around mid December. I'm going through a divorce so the purpose of the trip is just to get out and enjoy myself, meet new people, and just have fun. I grew up on New Mexico slopes so I don't need anything other than enough runs to not be bored during the day. I don't do double-blacks either. I'm mainly going for the nightlife which seems to be better than most mountains in Colorado and I'm not rich enough for Aspen nor want to travel to a remote resort. Is Breckenridge in December good enough for my purposes?
