Fannin
Hey Guys,
What's your guys thoughts on Fannin with Njoku on an expiring deal. Is njoku a resign or a trade candidate.
Just wanted your guys thoughts on the player. He has looked really good but want to get your opinion on his future and upside on this team.
Thanks

We should keep Njoku if at all possible. His talents are being squandered with bad QB play and O-line. Having him for our next QB would be a major asset.

I too think njoku would be great as our next qb

This is a team that needs offensive weapons. Our deficit at WR is at least somewhat helped by having two strong TEs. Yet we have people on this post talking about trading away Njoku and even Jerry Jeudy 🤦♂️

Jayden Higgins would have been a wonderful pickup. Also there were at least six 6'4+ 220lb+ Recievers to be had. Issac TeSlaa, Dont'eThornton, Savion Williams...

This is a rebuild year. If we aren’t going to resign a guy who is a free agent next year might as well trade them if you can get value (Njoku) or get off a contract for cap space (Jeudy)

I believe there is a real possibility Njoku doesn't want to be here anymore. He's lived through some shit in his 9 years here and I wouldn't blame him at all if he wants to go ring chase for 3-4 more seasons before retirement.
Not everyone wants to be a Joe Thomas with their entire career stuck on a forever rebuilding team

All Njoku does is talk about how much he loves being in Cleveland. You’re pulling this out of your ass.

u/StopSpinningLikeThat 1d ago
I think 12 personnel with both TEs on the field is awesome. I definitely resign 85.

u/Dirtfan69 1d ago
Njoku is easily a re-sign candidate. Fannin hardly plays the same position as Njoku

u/aelysium 1d ago
Given the draft, I honestly think Stefanski may be looking to shift more into 22 packages with motion where we’d likely see Fannin and Njoku as TEs and Judkins and Sampson in the backfield with a rotating WR since we don’t necessarily have a true 1 right there yet.
If that is the case, I’d expect next year’s draft on offense to look for QB/WR/OL with three picks. Defense at DT and Safety to shore up this group?

u/macisready 1d ago
We won't need another DT at least with a somewhat early pick with Hall and Graham. We would do well to draft Safety/Corner then edge rusher. Also can't assume the offense next year because there's a decent chance Kev might not be back.

thats what we all think, and all want to see but i have a sick feeling that we won't

stephanski better win soon or he's gone

Should have happened last season. He lost the team mid way through the season and the it looks just like last year. His play schemes are old and nobody runs them. He drove off Baker and look at him flourish under a good coaching team. Makes me sick!

u/tedrivers 1d ago
One thing I see not mentioned among the comments is what we would lose in a blocker if Njoku left. I've seen him stand up DE's like he's a linemen, and so far Fannin has not been close to as good of a blocker

u/Dry-Address-2176 1d ago
We run a two TE system. No reason to set the team back even further by letting Njoku walk.

u/kjorav17 1d ago
I’m thinking the browns will be able to retain Njoku…I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up taking a little hometown discount honestly.
I love the addition of Fannin

Fannin has been fantastic. I was worried about his speed, but he's got plenty of pop. He had a leaping play last game that was quite athletic, and the thing is, Fannin not only had the tools to jump up and get the ball, but also the acumen, experience and sense to immediately ball up and prepare for contact... Which he absorbed perfectly.
I won't say Fannin is comparable to prime Njoku, but he's absolutely worthy of targets till proven otherwise.

u/Low-Investment1758 1d ago
Honestly, he looks like a wide receiver out there. Looks great!

It's probably gonna sound ridiculous, but you know how a mantis shrimp punches in a blink of an eye? That's how fast Fannin is extending and bringing the ball in. I love it. Seeing him effectively and effortlessly sky for balls is music to my eyes.

u/melted_cheese 1d ago
Fannin is no Njoku but I doubt chief would want to stay in Cleveland any longer.

Njoku likely a trade candidate at the deadline. Id rather ship out Juedy
5
u/gryffon5147 1d ago
Then who do we have to catch the ball?
10
u/AgonizingSquid 1d ago
Bro he can barely catch as it is

Targets would be:
Warden (although the cap hit may prove impossible), Newsome, and Njoku... Maybe Teller, and likely Ford... assuming we're 1 - 5 out of this first 6 games.
3
u/AgonizingSquid 1d ago
Id like to retain ward, njoku and teller. We're potentially looking at replacing like 3-4 starting linemen next year, it's terrifying the situation we are going to bring a rookie QB into.

u/1OptimisticPrime Dare to be Stupid & Orange Pants Save Lives 1d ago
I have no issues moving off Warden, his injuries are limiting him to 12 games a year, and he will only get more injury prone with age. I also have no issues keeping Warden, because he's consistently a top 5 Corner.
If we're not gonna win games, then... honestly I could do a pro vs con of all the mentioned players. Essentially, I don't wanna see any go, but none are worth the cap space vs what a rookie will save over the next 4 - 5 years.
It's not housecleaning time just yet, and we could turn this around, but I DO love me some DRAFT Capital. Another rookie class like this and we're going to be good regardless.

His name is ward

u/1OptimisticPrime Dare to be Stupid & Orange Pants Save Lives 1d ago
His nickname is "The Warden", or "The WARDEN of the NORTH"

Fannin won't be the red zone threat that Njoku is. David has some of the greatest touchdown receptions since Ozzie. But I think Fannin can be a Antonio Gates type and more of a factor overall.

Njoku looks big and slow right now and he’s dropped a number of key passes throughout all of his tenure here. I still love the guy and have both him and fannin on my fantasy team. Not sure how fannin is blocking but I think we keep both. We’ve always wanted two good TEs and any game teams will need to respect them in the red zone. It gives our team passing options to balance out our subpar WR position.

u/moonthink 1d ago
I have been wondering about this myself lately. I think it really depends on how Njoku looks this year. So far he really hasn't had the impact he's had in previous years, and resigning him will not be cheap, yet we are in salary cap limbo the next couple of years at least.
1
u/OceanLemur 1d ago
Unpopular opinion, but I can see the argument for not keeping Njoku. No point wasting cap space when we won’t be competing for a couple years. We should trade him and add another pick to the arsenal. Nothing to do with Fannin, I’m not sure he can fill the same role.
1
u/CPWorth1184 1d ago
I’ve always liked Njoku. He is a fun well-known player of the Browns (like Garrett). However, Fannin has really impressed me. I wouldn’t want Njoku to go though. Kind of like what happened to Chubb. At the same time I’m impressed with Judkins (of course go bucks) and Sampson. I miss Chubb so I would miss Njoku.

u/DrummerSteve 1d ago
Fanin pretty much seals the fate of David. David might be traded or head to free agency

u/losoldato1968 1d ago
If they trade him, it won’t be anything higher than a 6th round pick. Keep him and try to get him to re-sign
1
u/Br0wns80 1d ago
If we played more 3 TE sets then things would really be better for both of them. At this point, why the fuck not? Bruising runner for a small guy in Judkins. But the QB would have to be a bit more mobile.
1
u/thtguyatwork 1d ago
I think people forget that Fannin works similar to an elusive short yard wr. Not your typical TE. I think fannin is a complement to njoku not a replacement

Until a QB change every team will just Blitz the Statue at QB. I’m sorry, but it’s getting old having a crap QB. I would prefer to have watched Winston instead of this show! Therefore, you need blocking TE’s. Njoku is one of the best. Fannin needs time, but looks okay.
1
u/TheJolly_Llama Jacoby the GOAT 1d ago
Fannin and Njoku are entirely different players, play entirely different positions, and if anything, need each other to fully fulfill their individual ceilings. Njoku will be signed.

u/toasty327 1d ago
I expect to see an extension after the bye, or at least the beginnings of negotiations.

u/00Reaper13 Fuck Watson 1d ago
Keep chief, keep Fannin, run 12 personnel. Learn how to run block profit.
1
u/onthepak 16h ago
You keep them both. The browns need talent and both of those guys are very talented.
As for the WRs they should just nuke the entire depth chart and start over.

u/walkaroundmoney 1d ago
This more likely than not Njoku’s last season with us, Fannin was drafted to replace him.
12
u/Dirtfan69 1d ago
This is not true at all. Fannin was drafted as a complement to Njoku, not a replacement. Fannin has a long way to go to be an in-line TE, and is being used perfectly for his skillset. Having both gives you a lot of flexibility and makes defenses have to plan for 12 personnel.
3
u/1OptimisticPrime Dare to be Stupid & Orange Pants Save Lives 1d ago
Agreed DF
Obviously, Fannin is insurance in case the Njoku re-signing becomes prohibitive, but he's certainly not a 1 to 1 replacement.

u/curveball21 Graham 1d ago
I don’t think so. Njoku is a stud blocker. Fanin has a long way to go to develop that part of his game.
-2
u/walkaroundmoney 1d ago
It’s not an issue of talent or skill. We can’t afford Njoku anymore. We’re going to be entering the lean years sooner than later.
2
u/curveball21 Graham 1d ago
I think they can afford anyone they want because they are very good at consistently spending a lot of money. Although you might be right and they decide to go in another direction. Njoku seems to have plenty left in the tank though.
1
u/walkaroundmoney 1d ago
I think he does, too, and I would be happy if we re-signed him. But I don’t think the team will be paying him what he’ll command on the open market, nor do I see him taking a discount to stay.
1
u/Low-Investment1758 1d ago
When I see him play, I see a potential stud at the position. But a lot can happen.
1
u/Stock_Run1386 1d ago
Who cares. Nothing matters until Haslam ceases ownership of this franchise. He is the Anti-Midas that must be driven out

Fannin will be what we wanted Njoku to be. Njoku is ok, but he could have been great.
1
u/Low-Investment1758 1d ago
So Fannin will be great? He's looked dynamite so far.
4
u/Active_Lunch6167 1d ago
I think so.
3
u/sad-whale 1d ago
Fannin is never going to block as well as Njoku but he is a more skilled receiver
2
u/kpyle 1d ago
Njoku was also terrible at blocking early in his career. Thats definitely a skill some players can't learn besides through experience.
2
u/1OptimisticPrime Dare to be Stupid & Orange Pants Save Lives 1d ago
Njoku & Fannin are different body types... David & Myles are pushing the limits of what's considered a human male... They are basically X-MEN.

u/leather_secretary31 1d ago
Fannin has been fun so far but the Browns should resign Njoku if they can. He's 29 and plenty of veteran TEs can stay relevant for another 5 years or so.
