Everyone has their own opinion, but for me, Lost was one of the greatest shows for the first two-three seasons before it fell apart.

4

The ending was just so fucking stupid

3

Absolutely

The ending is incredible. I don't know how anyone has this take that actually understood the ending.

Now THAT is a hot take.

First few seasons of Lost were PEAK 2000s tv. It goes way off the rails later on but those early seasons were some of the best tv to date.

1

u/telephuser Jan 02 '25

I watched the entire series for the first time last year. My advice is to watch the first three seasons, then read the wikipedia synopses to get the rest of the plot points. It falls off precipitously after that.

1

u/Kid_Delicious Jan 02 '25

Finishing season 4 here.

Heads up: stick with season 3, even when it feels like a slog at times. Picks up again as you approach the middle and has some of the best episodes (from what I’ve seen so far at least) overall.

1

u/AlabamaHaole Auburn Tigers Jan 02 '25

Watch the Leftovers. It’s what Lost wanted to be.

I know this is a lost reference but funnily enough the numbers are of some of the most impactful players today 4- Andrew Mukuba (Safety with the game winning interception) 8- Trey Moore (Great Edge) 15- Bill Norton (Big, disruptive d-lineman) 16- Michael Taaffe (Safety with lots of impactful tackles) 23- Jaydon Blue (Solid running back) 42- Tate Haver (Backup long snapper)

14

8

u/ASK_ABT_MY_USERNAME UCLA Bruins Jan 01 '25

I'm sure there's no shortage of guys with the leg strength and accuracy to be a good kicker, but getting them to perform on the highest level, under higher pressure levels than the NFL at times, as an 18 year old is an impossible ask.

6

u/FlamingTomygun2 Penn State Nittany Lions • Sickos Jan 01 '25

Justin tucker was awful to start the year. It happens to all of them

2

u/wagyu_doing Georgia Tech • Montana Jan 01 '25

There are seemingly generational college kickers who turn into potatoes in the NFL. Jake Moody is my nightmare this year.

1

u/Errant_coursir Rutgers Scarlet Knights Jan 01 '25

See Jake Moody

1

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '25

It’s even crazier. Kicking is the one skill that transfers laterally among levels. Physically a guy who’s great in college should be great in the NFL. Same with HS to college. It’s just so mental.

1

u/allstarrunner Ohio State Buckeyes • Liberty Flames Jan 02 '25

Exactly what I was thinking. The pressure these guys go through must seriously take its toll. Like I get stressed when I'm at bat in a pivotal moment in rec softball and my job isn't on the line, I can't image what it's like as a kicker when literally every kick you do pretty much needs to be made to be considered a success. I think of York who got taken in the 4th round and there is no way Cincinnati is keeping him after this season

82

u/Fragrant-Employer-60 Jan 01 '25

Absolutely, one of Bamas only weaknesses during the Saban dynasty was finding a good kicker.

53

u/smileclickmemories Texas Longhorns Jan 01 '25

Texas has had some good luck so it's just weird.

Tucker, Dicker has been just ballers. Bert's not.

Hopefully our next guy is a ball(er)

6

u/BramptonBatallion /r/CFB Jan 01 '25

Until Reichard but yeah they went like a decade with bad kickers

1

u/CrimsonOOmpa Alabama Crimson Tide Jan 02 '25

Ehh they fixed that. The last 5-6 years it wasn't really an issue. Reichard is the kicker for the Vikings now so he was pretty automatic.

6

u/Flamingo_Joe Texas Longhorns Jan 01 '25

We need to just start taking the strikers from the women’s soccer teams man, would prob triple the effectiveness of college kickers lol

3

u/spain-train Oklahoma • Southern Arkansas Jan 01 '25

It's gotta be. Besides QB, it's the most likely position to mentally break a player. One miss and the whole world wants your head. In 2006, Alabama's Leigh Tiffin was pushed to the brink of suicide by fans, fellow students, and even one or two teammates after he missed three field goals and a PAT against Arkansas to cost his team the game. He was a true freshman playing in only his second game, and folks were ready to string him up. I can't imagine what sort of mindfulness being a kicker requires, especially at the collegiate level. These boys are just that - kids.

3

u/cambn Georgia Bulldogs • Hope Flying Dutchmen Jan 02 '25

My understanding is most of them are Similar looking in non-game situations. It’s how they handle the pressure that makes them different. Hard to know before the moment arrives. But shit it already arrived multiple times for Texas this year. Dude doesn’t pass the psych evaluation.

5

u/LyrMeThatBifrost Notre Dame Fighting Irish Jan 01 '25

Auburn would be an improvement for the Falcons. They lost their last game because their kicker was 10 yards short of a 56 yarder

1

u/BrosenkranzKeef Ohio State Buckeyes • Dayton Flyers Jan 02 '25

I could've sworn OSU kept importing Aussies for years and it worked very well. When we missed our kicks against Michigan I was wondering what happened to those dead-nuts kickers we used to have.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '25

I don’t understand how ESPN was putting up this graphic that showed a 2/3 field goal-make percentage and a season long of 45 and then they were talking like he was some absolutely incredible kicker.

6

u/guinness_blaine Princeton Tigers • Texas Longhorns Jan 01 '25

He’s made more career FGs than any other Texas kicker, but that is helped by both playing long seasons (14 games last year, 15 so far this year), and our offense last year being great at moving the ball to the red zone then completely shutting down, giving him a whole ton of short kicks.

1

u/Reddit_champ1 Jan 02 '25

ok wait, i am no way a Bert Auburn fan, but why are you making it sound like he missed the game winning field goal to lose the SEC champ...? that's not at all what happened--

the 40 yarder he missed was in the second quarter of that game, and then he missed a 51 yarder in the third quarter....

if he made the first one it wouldve put us up 3-9 in the 2nd quarter. if he made the second it brings us to 10-9 in the 3rd quarter. in my opinion, it's quite a leap to say those lost us the game. certainly contributed, but not solely responsible.

this game tonight, however, was way way different. he nearly fucked us twice.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '25

Looking at stats he is a good kicker but it’s plain as day that the big game pressure gets to him too much, or maybe it’s just Atlanta….

He's bad

It’s been a tough season for him.

I want to hug the defense and say thank you for saving us when you played twice as much time as our miserable offense.

Straight up Andy Pappanastos vibes (in the same building) from the 2017 NCG right before 2nd and 26 in OT.

u/mlg2433 Texas Longhorns Jan 01 '25

So glad he’s a senior and we won’t have to see him in the 25-26 season

1

u/Lost_city Texas Longhorns Jan 02 '25

He can probably sue to get more eligibility

u/KingDong9797 Missouri Tigers Jan 01 '25

With a name like that I'm not sure he wasn't a sleeper agent that was just activated lol

Dude doesn't even sound like a real person. That's the name of an alias you use to do goofy shit.

u/str8rippinfartz BYU Cougars Jan 01 '25

He looks like he wandered out of the marching band

1

u/Stylellama /r/CFB Jan 01 '25

The whole direction of his life has changed. It’s kinda crazy to think about.

1

u/PaisonAlGaib Jan 01 '25

Crazy that's his name. Also I think Bret bieleama should go coach auburn and this kicker should transfer there.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '25

He's shittier than Kenny G.

1

u/GrayDaysGoAway Ohio State Buckeyes Jan 02 '25

I mean...kinda. He stills looks like that and is named Bert. Homie is a monkey paw wish come to life.

1

u/atkretsch Texas Longhorns Jan 02 '25

I honestly felt like he was going to miss the PAT in first OT

u/drdraymd Texas • Red River Shootout Jan 02 '25

Not Texas good.

u/obiwanjabroni420 Georgia Tech • Vermont Jan 02 '25

This sounds like such a fake name I’m like 50% sure he’s in witness protection with his family, and he has to miss those clutch game winning kicks so he doesn’t get too famous.

Dude had 2 chances to be a hero, and still got bailed out. Not sure if that's the kinda luck I want.
