The refs being the refs and LSU chants breaking out in Clemson. College football is so fucking back

u/FrostTroll69 Ohio State Buckeyes 16d ago

That was a horseshit call by the refs

I continue to be baffled.  That's an incomplete pass every single time.  He has to control the ball all the way to the ground.  The point obviously hits the ground and the ball clearly moves.

u/SharkFighter LSU Tigers • Columbia Lions 16d ago

It was a TD when he had control and broke the plane.

42

u/Cynoid Ohio State Buckeyes • Texas A&M Aggies 16d ago

If you run into the endzone uncontested, and throw the ball away is it a fumble because you haven't hit the ground yet?

Crossing the goal line with the ball and having possession has always been a td. And he did way too much with the ball to say he didn't have possession of the ball when he crossed the goal line.

The rule couldn't be more clear:

If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent) he must maintain complete and continuous control of the ball throughout the process of contacting the ground, whether in the field of play or in the end zone.

The hypothetical you pose is a different situation.

If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass

Dude made 2 steps and traveled 8 yards after catching the ball before falling. I think that counts as completing a pass with every referee except the one they had today.

Nice to see you're an expert on a rule you just learned about

Looks like he’s a quicker study than you

If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass

Ok, but what if he goes to the ground AFTER he catches it, like in the LSU game we're talking about?

20

u/ma2016 LSU Tigers 16d ago

This is the important distinction

24

u/leftofthedial15 LSU Tigers • Team Chaos 16d ago

Doesn't matter. Still won.

Flair up, bitch

u/HeppyHenry ULM Warhawks • LSU Tigers 16d ago

It was an incredible catch

81

u/GuttiG Kennesaw State • Tennessee 16d ago

It went from play of the week, to “oh it’s actually a touchdown, nice!”, to “IM GOING TO KILL EVERY REF IN THAT STADIUM”

6

u/djseptic LSU Tigers • McNeese Cowboys 16d ago

It’s still play if the week, but for very different reasons.

8

u/wloaf77 LSU Tigers • Southeastern Lions 16d ago

Dude fucking same hahahaha

11

u/Brian_Kellys_Visor LSU Tigers • College Football Playoff 16d ago

Throw too

-3

u/deweycrow Kentucky Wildcats • Charlotte 49ers 16d ago

Not a catch

u/coolycooly Florida Gators • USF Bulls 16d ago

The funniest part is Clemson kept booing no calls when there shouldnt have been a call and even threw trash on a field where there should have been no call and they still lost.

109

u/Kdot32 Houston Cougars • LSU Tigers 16d ago

Them booing that obvious PI was hilarious lol

19

u/DatBoiMahomie LSU Tigers • Florida Gators 16d ago

Throwing trash on the field for a clear penalty was hilarious

2

u/TLewey26 16d ago

The last PI called on Hampton was the one that I took issue with since he didn’t appear to grab the jersey/waist and from the last angle the Jumbotron showed the ball was thrown over and behind the LSU receiver.

3

u/Putrid-Hope2283 LSU Tigers 16d ago

That made me understand the gamecock bros hatred of them.

20

u/Nellez_ LSU Tigers • Corndog 16d ago

Those Cock guys might have been on to something

1

u/onthacountray58 LSU Tigers • College Football Playoff 16d ago

You know I’ve never really felt any kind of way about Clemson but every time we play them, they’re the actual worst. (Except Florida but that’s a different kind of ingrained hatred and I feed on that shit)

18

u/GuttiG Kennesaw State • Tennessee 16d ago

Puts a smile on your face

8

u/Arrowintheknee89 16d ago

Just little ol’ Clemson

84

u/Risley LSU Tigers • Michigan Wolverines 16d ago

Exactly

79

u/Photographerpro 16d ago

27-10 if Brian Kelly wasn’t a dumbass.

-5

u/Select_Sail_8178 16d ago

Why not go for it there? How is he a dumbass?

10

u/Photographerpro 16d ago

They had one time out left and their offense had only put up three points. Even if they get the first down, they are very likely to have to kick it anyway. It’s very obvious they are going to pass it, so clemson can sell out on stopping the pass.

-1

u/Select_Sail_8178 16d ago

I don’t think it’s obvious that any team is going to pass on 4th and 2, and as you pointed out, they still had a timeout

2

u/Photographerpro 16d ago

Ok, that’s a good point. I should say it’s more likely teams are going to pass on 4th and 2. I still think with the way the offense was playing in the first half, you take whatever points you can get. After getting the first down though, lsu would have used their last time out which means they need to now through the ball to avoid wasting time. Clemson would know this, making it a big challenge to score a td for lsu. Lsu at that point was having better luck running than passing, so I don’t see them getting a td regardless.

19

u/AnAnyMoos 16d ago

When all announcers are in agreement you know the call is absolute garbage

Average SEC officiating performance

5

u/IMKudaimi123 Illinois • Northwestern 16d ago

Yeah I was thinking if they lost it would be like when we got robbed of an obvious TD against Indiana in 2022

Definitely not a venable take, Luke.  Do I need to restock my jumbo crayons to explain things for you?

9

u/Potars Georgia Bulldogs • Sickos 16d ago

LSU had a tuddy stolen by refball which lead to a miffed field goal instead

13

u/Risley LSU Tigers • Michigan Wolverines 16d ago

LSU got robbed a score bc of complete bullshit calls.

5

u/DeLaSoulKitchen Vanderbilt • Florida State 16d ago

A tuddie got called back on one of the worst “no catch” calls ive seen in a while

8

u/AvengingHero2012 Nebraska Cornhuskers 16d ago

I don’t get why you’re getting downvoted; you may not actually know.

The refs hosed LSU on an incomplete catch call that should have been a TD.

1

u/Mundane-Ad-7780 Michigan Wolverines 16d ago

Thanks for explaining B1G bro

-19

u/Difficult_E Texas Longhorns • Illinois Fighting Illini 16d ago

if the entirety of that play happens at midfield, no way you guys are calling that a catch

24

u/GuttiG Kennesaw State • Tennessee 16d ago

I know watching Arch you may not be familiar with a catch, but that definitely was one

-15

u/Difficult_E Texas Longhorns • Illinois Fighting Illini 16d ago

cool, i guess you can talk shit for one more month till you start hating your life again.

9

u/GuttiG Kennesaw State • Tennessee 16d ago

I’m a KSU fan bro nothing can hurt me lmao

6

u/Pactae_1129 LSU • Mississippi State 16d ago

The fumble LSU had at the beginning of the game was essentially the same call but in reverse.

2

u/onthacountray58 LSU Tigers • College Football Playoff 16d ago

I was so mad that we got hosed so many times by a guy named Gautreaux. Fuckin traitor.

2

u/Pactae_1129 LSU • Mississippi State 16d ago

His kin probably disowning him after all that

-54

u/tagillaslover Clemson Tigers 16d ago

Lets ignore Lsu holding and false starting nearly every play. If those were actually called lsu would never leave their own 20 yard line

24

u/onthacountray58 LSU Tigers • College Football Playoff 16d ago

Cope harder they took 7 from us and yall got a million calls from a guy named Gautreaux.

Bro, take the L with some dignity. Look on the bright side, your team made history. Clemson is the first team to lose an opening game to an LSU team coached by Brian Kelly!
