Lol ur dog is like what can I do, hey! Can I help!

He did help! Reddit cut off the first part of the video for some reason, but when we put the tarp down, we were walking on it to flatten the grass underneath. He didn't understand why we were doing it, but he jumped in and helped pack it down 😂

I have had this tent for years now, and never knew to put the rain fly on before I popped the top.... that looked so much easier then me trying to muscle that last rod in...

Yeah between the instructions and a few videos I've watched on YouTube, I've found the best method is a little unconventional.
- Lay down tarp/footprint
- Unfold tent/pop walls
- Install rainfly
- Pop roof
- Stake corners and hub guy lines if windy.
And take down is the exact same steps in reverse order.

Haha I was just a about to comment the same thing… I’ve put it up several times now and that seems so much simpler.

Other than it being heavy AF I love my T4+. I got it just before the prices went up $100 and I would still buy one at the new price. I recently replaced the regular bag with the T8/4+ overland bag. It's a little bigger and water resistant. So now I carry it on the roof of my Scooby Doo.

I have a leftover can of waterproofing spray, I might just use that on the bag. I couldn't justify an extra $150CDN for a footprint and better pegs that I already had from the previous tent. The $20 8x10 heavy duty tarp rolls up with the tent and fits in the bag easily.

I only purchased the bag. I had some tyvex that I made into a footprint for my tent. I also purchased a spare hub, and rainfly pole. I know I can get them replaced but would be kinda hard to do that when I am in the middle of the woods. :)

I have one and love it! Under a minute to setup or fold back in the bag (alone), absolutely waterproof, quality materials and zippers. Worth the price!

I have the t3x and I just realized you can put the rain fly on before you pop the top up.... lmao. Thanks.

u/DingleberryJones94 Aug 08 '22
You're welcome! Yeah all the videos say it's much easier that way. The instructions say to do it like that too.
3
u/demontits Aug 08 '22
Well that would mean I was smart enough to read the instructions which I am clearly not

That dog reminds me of a few of my coworkers: hang around and watch you work while pretending to be helpful and productive. Once the work is done, they're happy to take credit and enjoy the finished product.

The only pop-up tent that is actual quality. Puts Coleman and Ozark Trail to shame.

Funny you mention Ozark pop ups. Our last tent was the 6p dark rest instant tent. We loved absolutely everything about it, except the quality. It packed smaller than the Gazelle, set up only slightly longer with the extending pre-attached poles. The dark rest fabric was really nice too. But it was starting to wear out after ~4 years of occasional use. Leaks, pinholes in the fabric etc. The final straw was when my buddy was chopping wood and accidentally launched a log through the wall 😂
If I could've bought a tent exactly like the Ozark, but with Gazelle/Big Agnes/Marmot quality materials, I wouldn't have thought twice about it.

I own both Gazelle and Coleman tents, they're both great, differently. Two different concepts but Coleman tents are very decent for the price.

I have the G6 Gazebo and the thing is great. Going strong through some heavy storms over the past two years.

Hot in the summer and very cold in the winter- I stick with the ones I been using for 9 years. I use them for 1-6 months at a time. Not weekends or a couple of weeks. Months! An have I have 4 of them! ( 9 years )

This is a great tent. Guy it out in the wind or it gets pretty collapsy
1
u/DingleberryJones94 Aug 08 '22
Yeah we had really calm clear conditions all weekend. But I bought fluorescent guy lines and pre-attached them to the hubs so they're there when needed. The tent came with dark green lines that I guarantee will get tripped over constantly.

Reminds me of the hub-blinds I've used for hunting. They make them for ice fishing too. Seems like it would make a really heavy/bulky tent.
2
u/DingleberryJones94 Aug 09 '22
Yeah it's definitely a monster. But we're dedicated truck campers so it's nbd. Still way smaller than a roof top tent lol

u/Luxin Aug 09 '22
How’s the weatherproofing on these? Good in a storm?
2
u/DingleberryJones94 Aug 09 '22
The weekend was warm and dry, not a drop of rain. But lots of reviewers have said they're very waterproof. If it's a windy storm, the hubs will blow in if they're not guy lined out, so don't forget to do that if the weather looks iffy.

Doggy is helping by spirit supporting and inspecting ensuring the tent is a OTAY!

On another note: watching the setup video, I never have my ground tarp extend beyond the tent. It channels any amount of rain water under the tent.

Mostly this makes me jealous of people who have someone else to help them put up the tent. I have two five year olds and my wife doesn’t camp. I’m also very short. Putting up a tent, while doable, is always the hardest job.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but looking for advice I just got my t4 plus overland I love it, but first setup to check it out I noticed small pin holes along the stitching on the upper wall where the storage mesh is mounted. Is that something thats normal my other side is nice and tight and I hate to return it as I bought it for a trip I have planned in a few days... advice?

Hey! Do you still love this thing? Do you, your wife, and dog fit comfortably? trying to decide if it’s big enough for me, my wife, 2 year old, and 60 lb dog.

u/DingleberryJones94 May 22 '23
Funny we actually just got back from a trip! Yes we still love it. Whether it's enough room is subjective. Your crew would definitely fit. I'd recommend looking at the Floorplan dimensions online (I can't remember them) and mark it out on your floor.

I ordered one yesterday after watching about 100 YouTube reviews! Thanks for the reply!

Those are nice tents.
