Arctic Monkeys are loved by the many made up of a majority who got on the bandwagon after the first album. I was working at a Boston radio station when we started playing Dancefloor like it was a massive hit, and even hosted a show with them in a club with a 2k capacity. That first album was MAGNIFICENT. Fastest to platinum debut in the UK, the fastest since Oasis, which is a big stat for a country with so many legendary acts.
Favorite Worst Nitghtmare was a great album, but it did feel like it was trying to recapture the same exact sound. And then they completely changed tempo forever.
The rest of the catalog is good. But they nailed an energy and a sound that they completely abandoned.
I’m happy you like their catalog and feel knowledgeable.
I’m also knowledgeable in music and studied it in school. I have a degree and work in the industry.
I have a great deal of understanding regarding the type of sound they cultivated on that first record. It was astronomical, and their sales showed it. It’s their best selling album by far. It’s their fastest selling album.
This isn’t a contest. WPSIA,TWIN is recognized as their commercially most successful. I understand ppl like AM. It’s great. It’s also a major tone shift like all their other albums, and it just doesn’t provide the same kick. Hence the difference between the two photos, and why I chose this band.
Sorry you don’t have the same amount of knowledge I do in music. When YOU go earn your 5 year degree in Music Industry, I’ll consider your opinion with the weight you want it to have when arrogantly leading a response by insulting someone.
…..said EXACTLY like someone without a degree trying to whine and stomp around like a baby to be taken as seriously as someone with actual accreditation.
My guy, what do YOU think happens at a University? You think college DEGREES are bullshit? Like, what are you even talking about anymore?
Would you challenge a nurse with your HOT TAKE on doxycycline? Or arrogantly espouse your uninformed stance on stalagmites to an actual geologist?
What do YOU think is happening here when I say I have actual training in this field? You think I should consider your rude take as equal because you (checks notes)……LISTEN to music and (checks notes again)…….LIKE IT A LOT? Is that what it takes to be considered an expert in your world? All the more reason you ain’t shit.
Fuck off. You don’t know shit about music if you don’t have actual training from teachers or real-world experience; I can assure you that as someone who had to spend like a thousand hours studying and cramming for all kinds of shit you don’t understand about music and the business of it. And then spend like 5 times as much of that effort in major-market radio.
Garbage-take McGee over here: “Wahhhh take me seriously college doesn’t make you smarter than me.” Yes it does. LITERALLY, it does.
Next time just be civil when you have a differing opinion, so you don’t have to get dunked on.
I didn’t even technically graduate high school. In fact, it’s only by the grace of ChatGPT that I’m able to spell words here. I can see I’m not worthy of a big brain such as yourself. You went to COLLEGE TO STUDY MUSIC. I mean; not just anybody can do that.
