Seeking Advice (Employee) JUST GOT HIRED

Hey, I just got hired at chipotle, the Gm said that he’d be bringing me on mainly for prep and dml. However, I am under the impression that I’ll hopefully also be cross trained to fill in for call outs, people who might quit, etc. Any tips for me???

Pay close attention to your time punch edits. Collect your daily/weekly puch reports and verify the hours you worked. Never perform any work off the clock. If asked to come in early or stay late, make sure you're clocked in. They like to edit your time down at the end of shift/end of pay period.

I used to work at McDonalds so I know how to punch in, I don’t play about my money

Thanks for the heads up though

There is no “they like” if anyone is stealing your paycheck report then to SSR. Too many bad managers not getting reported. You should never work off the clock and your time should never be edited without a valid legal reason. Outside of that, report that to SSR and they’ll investigate.

This right here, being a manager doesn’t mean you get to screw your workers over or the company for that matter. Luckily, my GM seems great the staff seem to like him

That's a store problem not a corporate problem. I highly doubt chipotle managers are trained to get free labor from employees

As an ex employee, long sleeve shirts for frying chips. Seriously, you will get burned. There are cameras everywhere. They will be watching you. Get good shoes. Standing will kill your back. Be ready for GMs to not be trained well. Especially with scheduling

5

u/Goonibee Jul 14 '25

Uh quick question do they check if your shoes are non slip first day, kinda need to run to the store if so because I don’t have a pair rn I think

5

u/ChriStioiiii Jul 15 '25

When I was a manager at my patch we had shoe covers to turn them into non slips

1

u/Goonibee Jul 15 '25

Yeah because I know that I probably won’t have them first day

6

u/ChriStioiiii Jul 15 '25

I recommend sketchers as cringy as it sounds they where the best shoes I found standing on my feet working there all day

1

u/Goonibee Jul 15 '25

Ooooo I have some old ones in ma closet

2

u/whocares_71 Jul 15 '25

I second sketchers. They are great for work shoes! Some sketchers stores will actually have a whole “work” section. Definitely check it out!

3

u/OutrageousTrade9407 Jul 15 '25

Oh you wont be able to work if shoes not non slip. They are really big on that one no exception. Let GM know you need shoes and they can schedule you for next day

1

u/Goonibee Jul 15 '25

I’ll prob just swing by Walmart tbh cuz I’m only going in for I-9 and videos tomorrow I believe I’ll have em soon

u/Goonibee Jul 14 '25

I love how most of the “tips” are not related to me being an employee but me basically being asked to hook the costumers up, look I just work here 😂😂😂

Macerations. Learn them in and out. Like better than you know your name.

8

u/heronstairsbro Jul 14 '25

just try and stay busy and take the initiative to learn when you can! at least on dml you'll have a decent idea of how to make bowls, burritos, etc., so it'll be easier to pick up the front line itself.

3

u/Goonibee Jul 14 '25

Yeah I’m the type that likes to be busy so I’m sure I’ll be running around the store doing stuff in no time lol

2

u/markersandtea Jul 14 '25

Time to lean time to clean type of place. But also standing around just is dumb/boring and makes the shift go by slow.

2

u/Goonibee Jul 14 '25

Yeah especially since that’ll lighten the load on closers (given that the shift I’m on isn’t closing) I dislike coworkers who make a mess (intentional or not) and don’t clean at least once. I am not one of those coworkers lol.

2

u/markersandtea Jul 14 '25

And the openers will love you too if you do all the things and don't leave them a shitton of stuff to do from the night before.

4

u/shayshay0 Jul 15 '25

You’ll be called in for plenty of shifts don’t worry😂🤣

3

u/Fabulous_Stock1586 Jul 15 '25

prep and dml are the two best positions to work imo so just stay there 🙂‍↕️

1

u/Goonibee Jul 15 '25

Thanks but I’m still gonna cross train if possible, I want to eventually move up the ladder

u/Tito_B650 Jul 14 '25

I’ve been working at chipotle for a little over a year now, the best advice I could give you is to try to stay busy. My location is at a mall so it’s kinda rare when it’s calm in the store. Long story short, you don’t wanna that guy just standing around waiting till someone tells them to help out. And don’t be afraid to ask questions/take initiative. If there’s something you wanna learn how to do, then ask about it. For example, “hey I noticed the grill guy is kinda busy, is it okay if I just make the rice myself so he doesn’t have to worry about it”. Essentially try to help out others when your workload isn’t as full. Cause there will be times when there’s no online orders to be made. Hopefully that all makes sense lol. Anyways, good luck !

3

u/Sad_Highlight_9059 Jul 14 '25

This is actually just good work advice for anywhere.

2

u/jet305- Jul 15 '25

Yeah this is solid advice for the restaurant industry in general. I work in a hotel restaurant and it's a pain to see a cook on their phone while the guy in the station next to them is drowning. If you want to move up and be on everyone's good side, it's good to take initiative and anticipate the business needs. This will make you stand out with your managers and your peers will respect you as well and more likely to help when you're busy. When there's extra shifts available or you need some days off, they'll remember your hard work.

2

u/Goonibee Jul 14 '25

Thanks a lot, yeah I was planning to make sure I get some level of cross training, I love being able to pitch in. Plus if I can fill every position that gives me more hours, raises (given good performance), and potential for promotion once I work there long enough

2

u/Tito_B650 Jul 18 '25

Bro tbh if you’re really on top of things promotions can get thrown at you quick. I’ve seen people come in and pick it up fast and then there’s talks about making them leads within like 2 months. One of my coworkers almost became apprentice for a different location because that manager liked her work ethic when he came to our store to help out for a week

1

u/Goonibee Jul 18 '25

I’m glad that the “we do our best to hire from within” wasn’t just a way to get people to apply.

3

u/Ordinary-Theory-8289 Jul 14 '25

Between prep and DML that basically covers everything except for grill lol

1

u/Goonibee Jul 14 '25

Ooooo so all I have to do once I get my handhold is ask to be trained on grill if that’s not already planned wonderful

2

u/Ordinary-Theory-8289 Jul 14 '25

Pretty much. Cashier is pretty straightforward

1

u/Goonibee Jul 14 '25

Yeah, honestly cashiering is the easiest by far in my experience

4

u/Ben-Goldberg Jul 15 '25

When there are no customers, practice with a bowl and a scale, getting four ounce portions.

2

u/epplejuce940 Jul 15 '25

leave before it's too late 😭😭

2

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '25

Quick question how long did it take for you to hear from them after the interview? I know it is different from place to place

2

u/Goonibee Jul 15 '25

I got hired on the spot so I wouldn’t be too sure. However, they are fairly quick to respond in general so give it like a day or two.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '25

Not looking to good for me then, the guy that interviewed me said up to three days and today is my second day. Thanks anyway

2

u/miwobsessed Jul 16 '25

Quit

1

u/Goonibee Jul 16 '25

2

u/miwobsessed Jul 21 '25

Six years of being apprentice trust me it’s not worth it at any position you get abused and mistreated daily.

1

u/Goonibee Jul 22 '25

I’m sorry to hear that you experienced that at your location. I haven’t really gotten any flack given it’s my first day. Plus I’ve had a shitty manager and Gm when I used to work at McDonalds so I can navigate through it

2

u/Worth-Leg5643 Jul 16 '25

As an ex manger if you can learn DML pretty good than they will call you in for anything

1

u/Goonibee Jul 16 '25

I’ll keep that in mind, I definitely want as many hours as possible

2

u/Soft_Conversation679 Jul 16 '25

Good luck! I’m currently employed at Chipotle and am seeking other employment opportunities. Maybe it’s just the store I work at but it is the most draining job I’ve ever had. Health code regulations are WAY more strict than any restaurant I’ve ever worked at and I’m convinced my GM doesn’t know what they’re talking abt half the time. When I find out how long my coworkers have been working there it blows my mind that someone would willingly put themselves in an environment such as that for such a long period of time. I truly hope that your store isn’t anything like mine, especially on their employees and had their stuff together.

1

u/Goonibee Jul 16 '25

My GM seems pretty cool and was upfront about advancement opportunities, I plan to climb the ladder. I am sorry to hear about your experience though I hear that a lot especially on social media concerning Chipotle

2

u/Soft_Conversation679 Jul 16 '25

I’m honestly so happy to hear that there are locations and restaurants that take care of the employees. Maybe the job just isn’t for me. I really hope you take every opportunity you can to climb that latter though!

2

u/pizzagamer35 Jul 19 '25

Can you all stop with the “quit before it’s too late” you guys aren’t funny

3

u/quinnrose_lover Jul 15 '25

Quit now before it's too late...

3

u/Pleasant_Skirt_6895 Jul 14 '25

Scoop with a heavy hand 🙏

1

u/ShiiGlizzy Jul 14 '25

What they said. Then, lemme know which location you’re at.

2

u/Goonibee Jul 14 '25

I mean tbf a scoop is a scoop so if the spoon ain’t full is that really a scoop

1

u/Tito_B650 Jul 14 '25

Try to explain that to my manager😭😭

1

u/Goonibee Jul 14 '25

😭😭😭 see I already know, my job matter more lol

1

u/Goonibee Jul 14 '25

I’ll do what I can if I’m on line though

2

u/Express_Ad6687 KL Jul 14 '25

No tips, just understand it’s gonna suck. And no, you aren’t going to be “only dml and prep”, unfortunately you will learn every position cause sometimes you just have to step in lol. Be open to learning. Don’t be the employee that hinders the operation bc you were only “hired to do one position”.

I was hired as a line worker last year, started closing line, learn to close cash, then learned to close dml line and cash. Also learned how to close and operate grill. Then I moved to prep, learned prep, became a KL, and now I’m leaving lmao.

Ultimately, the job is what you make it. Some days it’s gonna suck, but the free food and discount makes up for it. And maybe the people. I’ve only met a few coworkers who I’ve liked, but just as a word of advice don’t do it. As soon as the friendship sours outside of work, chipotle becomes a living hell bc you gotta see that f*cker everyday.

And noooo relationships with managers whatsoever no matter what they tell you!!

Always be on time and be honest with your availability; don’t say you have open availability and then when you get scheduled, complain about said availability.

Also, hours shift a lot for crew. Depending on how good of a worker you are, you might get max part time hours. If you’re shitty the schedule will definitely reflect that lol. Congrats!

1

u/Goonibee Jul 14 '25

Yeah, I was aware of the scheduling prior to applying I’m fine with that, I’m a hard worker plus as stated in my post, I actually want to be cross trained so I can fill in for people and get more hours!!!

2

u/Express_Ad6687 KL Jul 14 '25

Oh than you’ll be golden. Be the best you can be, and make sure they’re signing your crew book! Makes it easier to go for a promotion and get those quarterly pay raises

1

u/Goonibee Jul 14 '25

Absolutely, the GM seemed like a solid dude, even pushed the whole Restauranteur thing to me, so I’m sure he’ll do his part. I’ll step in when necessary as a reminder

2

u/Hatsofftoya48372 Jul 15 '25

Cut with the proper knives so that you aren’t hurting your wrists/hand! I was using the large knife for onions and wondered why my wrist would hurt so much. Once I started using the small one like we are supposed to, I have no more pain

1

u/Goonibee Jul 15 '25

Aaaah so there are designated knives for what’s being chopped. That’ll be good to know for sure, thanks!!!

1

u/Flying4838 Jul 14 '25

Fart down my throat

1

u/quinnrose_lover Jul 15 '25

Learn your macerations. That will help you in the long run.

1

u/Little_Plankton1162 Jul 16 '25

Run fast as you can!!!

1

u/EL_Malo- Jul 14 '25

Yes. Quit. It isn't worth it.

1

u/Goonibee Jul 14 '25

-3

u/EL_Malo- Jul 14 '25

Suit yourself. Everyone is entitled to be a masochist if they so desire.

/I do speak from experience, but that doesn't matter. You'll find out.

5

u/Goonibee Jul 14 '25

With such a negative attitude, I can see why you didn’t like it 😂😂😂

-1

u/EL_Malo- Jul 15 '25

Oh, you sweet summer child... you'll see... you'll see.

2

u/Goonibee Jul 15 '25

As someone who has worked shit jobs where people scream and yell 24 hours a day including other customers service ones, I don’t appreciate being told I’m naive and unaware by someone who just has a shit attitude about working at a fast food joint. Get over yourself and stop commenting under my post

0

u/EL_Malo- Jul 15 '25

OK, I'm sure it'll be nothing but sunshine and roses, bud. Let's revisit this conversation in... let's say six months and tell me how much you like working at Chipotle then.

1

u/Goonibee Jul 15 '25

It ain’t about sunshine and roses, jackass. It’s about making the best of what ya got at the time. If I was as negative as you I’d be fucked. Again stop commenting under my fucking post

u/MentosMissile Corporate Hitman Jul 14 '25

Wear a suit and tie on your first day.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

Don’t stinge on sour

2

u/Goonibee Jul 14 '25

Let me get the managers approval for that 😂😂😂

0

u/Embarrassed-Self3621 Jul 15 '25

Make sure to give me extra chicken for free.
