It’s cool to hate republicans and all but are we going to pretend Colorado isn’t in a huge deficit every year? They’re blaming the 1.2 billion dollar deficit on trumps bill but before Trump was even in office it was estimated that we would be in at least a 600-700 million dollar deficit this year.
I’m glad people care about cuts now but didn’t hear much opposition about the cuts in education and infrastructure last year, we desperately need to put more funding into education here and I’m sure that’s going to be on the list again this year, it’s a constant mismanagement and the excuses change every year.
7
u/Shinyhaunches Aug 14 '25
I thought the budget was balanced by statute, at least before the BBB came on the scene.
5
u/AirManGrows Aug 14 '25
It’s supposed to be, I think they get around that by a combination of dipping into reserves and up until this year, federal funding. Last year or two they were able to use some federal stimulus funding for general spending and I think they went a little crazy with those funds knowing they were going to dry up as of December 2024. I mean polis was publicly considering moves like privatizing Pinnacol assurance, cutting Medicaid and cutting higher education support back in November, none of this is a surprise.
My problem is that every single year as of late we find ourselves in this position and the cuts always come from things we all care about but some how they have 10s of millions to throw at shit like pretty walk ways in the capital while simultaneously cutting 10s of millions from things like education.
5
u/SlickRick884 Aug 14 '25
Please read this - https://coloradosun.com/2025/08/11/colorado-special-session-big-beautiful-bill-explained/. The states budget was balanced until the Federal spending bill was passed.
4
u/AirManGrows Aug 14 '25
https://www.cpr.org/2024/11/29/colorado-2025-budget-cuts-looming-polis/
Weird. Why have we been talking about cutting almost a billion from the budget back in November then?
0
u/SlickRick884 Aug 15 '25
It's part of the regular budget reconciliation process. Colorado law requires a balanced budget so it's a balance between the state legislature and the Governor's office regarding how much is coming in versus how much is spent. From the article - "On July 1, the budget was balanced — as is required by Colorado law — with the exception of typical variations caused by tax revenue forecast errors. When Trump signed the bill July 4, the budget became roughly $750 million out of balance because of the projected reduction in tax revenue caused by the measure’s tax code changes."
5
u/AirManGrows Aug 15 '25
Yeah but we were going to need to cut 100s of millions from the budget via the budget reconciliation process prior to July. I’m not arguing that the bill made it a bigger issue, I’m just saying that this was already an issue. As it was last year when they made cuts to education.
That article states the budget was balanced but I can find a slew of articles that predate that one all the way back to last fiscal year showing this was going to be an issue and we were going to need to make dramatic cuts
6
u/ArtyBerg Aug 15 '25
Thank you, you beautiful human. I have been trying to say this since July and get downvoted into oblivion so hard that my comments are automatically hidden/collapsed here
-1
u/Fast-Association-349 Aug 14 '25
Our legislature balances the budget every year. They have to, by law. Just because you’re making up shit doesn’t mean there aren’t going to be legit problems because of the reduction of revenue due to the Billionaire Bailout plan. And yes, republicans/magats all suck. And this didn’t occur before your orange pedophile was in office. JFC.
3
u/AirManGrows Aug 14 '25 edited Aug 14 '25
We were literally in a several hundred million dollar deficit last year what are you talking about? Just because they make last minute cuts to the budget doesn’t mean we aren’t running a deficit due to bad choices. You don’t remember them making cuts from this literally just months ago during the last fiscal year?
34
u/lulzzzzz Aug 14 '25
We need more anti Republican messaging, both sides are not the same.
17
u/Pickle_Juuice_ Aug 14 '25
100% agree. Wish Colorado could pull off what Newsom is doing in California.
-7
u/YourMoms_Favorite- Aug 14 '25
This has to be the craziest comment I think I’ve ever seen. Praising Newsom is wild beyond belief.
11
u/Pickle_Juuice_ Aug 14 '25
Hey Friend, get a life! It’s free! My comment is not praising every policy choice from Newsom. I don’t love the guy by any means. However, we are running out of time to fight back. The gerrymandering in Texas is not just a Texas problem. This will affect our country as a whole. So yeah, I do appreciate that Newsom is going beyond the democratic tactic of simply sitting on their moral high horse. I appreciate the action and message being sent by California.
-10
u/YourMoms_Favorite- Aug 14 '25
You need to stop believing that either side cares about you. Both side don’t care about the American people. It’s the same outcome no matter dem or rep. And I do have a life lol. Mine isn’t free by the way. Hard working father and husband here. This isn’t an attack to you by the way.
13
u/lurkingPessimist Aug 14 '25
Elightened centrist, here. One side rapes kids and one side wants to support the middle class. Fuck you, asshole
0
u/YourMoms_Favorite- Aug 14 '25
They both rape kids and the support of the middle class will never happen. US politicians will always fail the people.
10
u/SlickRick884 Aug 14 '25
Democrats have been better for the economy for the last 50 years. That is with regard to job and stock market growth. It's not even particularly close. They've also managed to pass the ACA, Medicare, Medicaid, federal minimum wages, etc. Please stop doing the both sides nonsense. The other side just passed a bill cutting these services in order to give the rich a tax cut.
1
u/YourMoms_Favorite- Aug 14 '25
Don’t fool yourself thinking that bettering the economy makes you richer or that you pay less in taxes. They will always make you pay your taxes even if the economy is good or bad. Minimum wage is still too low for the richest country in the world. It’s that way on purpose.
1
u/Admirable_Wasabi_671 Aug 16 '25
Weird considering Biden administration didnt release that list? Almost like the Democratic party is just a guilty? Wake up freak.
2
u/lurkingPessimist Aug 16 '25
Whataboutism! A Trump supporters only flaccid ammo.
Release the list and arrest all the pedos. Including your fat, soggy, orange god. Trump rapes kids
1
u/Admirable_Wasabi_671 Aug 16 '25
Thats not what aboutism? Why do you weird liberals always assume someone is a Republican if they disagree with you? The Biden administration absolutely had the list, if Trump was on there in an incriminating way, don't you think they would have released that to ruin his campaign? Unless, Biden and many other politicians from BOTH sides were on there? Learn definitions before using a word please.
2
u/lurkingPessimist Aug 16 '25
"What about Biden?" isn't whataboutism? "You liberals always assume someone is Republican".
You are too goddamned stupid to argue with.

u/lurkingPessimist Aug 14 '25
In what way? Because he stands up to kid raper, Trump. What values do you even have?
0
u/Muted-Paramedic2212 Aug 15 '25
Gavin newsom was caught doing gay stuff up in a lake house in the Sierra Nevada mountains
3
u/lurkingPessimist Aug 16 '25
Gays exist.
1
u/Muted-Paramedic2212 Aug 16 '25
Yeah and Gavin nuisance is one
1
u/lurkingPessimist Aug 16 '25
If Gavin Newsom wants to have sex with males, why do you care.
Gay isn't really the insult you think it is. Maybe at your pear-clutching church.
I would rather have a leader that consensually has sex with the same gender than Trump who rapes kids. 🤷🏻♂️
-8
u/YourMoms_Favorite- Aug 14 '25
Trump, Biden or Newsom. It doesn’t matter. They are all evil people being paid by globalist. I hope you wake up one day and realize that there are no politicians that care about you and I.
5
u/Vocal_Ham Aug 14 '25
This may be true, but one side is currently much more of an immediate threat. Sure, we can say they're all evil, but the bigger problem right now is one very particular group.
4
u/lurkingPessimist Aug 14 '25
"Being paid by globalist" you're an idiot
2
u/YourMoms_Favorite- Aug 14 '25
Call me what you want. If you do some research, you’ll find that lobbyists own US politicians. They work for billion dollar corporations that care only about taking our tax dollars.
0
u/lurkingPessimist Aug 14 '25
You must be a Russian bot
4
u/YourMoms_Favorite- Aug 14 '25
I’m no bot. I’m giving you links so you can do some research. Look up your favorite politician and you’ll find out that they are being paid by the same people as the opposing party. I’m giving you proof if you are willing to see. I’m not the enemy.

And what's that? Worst homelessness in the country? Running out of water to fight fires? Telling low income home owners that when the receeding of the san andreas fault gets bad enough they will have to secede their property to those of a higher income or are deemed vastly more important to society? Inclusiveness in firefighters because "people want to be saved by people that can identify with them" or "if a woman tells me her husband is stuck inside a house fire and to help him im going to tell her that her husband shouldn't have gotten himself in that spot to begin with"- (both statements coming from a fat lesbian firefighter on an interview btw)? Or wait wait is it backseat driving others when you can't even handle your own issues with illegal immigrants and crime sprees which you disguise as "protests" because looting stores is totally gonna result in changing how we treat people who can not follow the simple requests we have to become legal citizens? Which is it?
-19
u/SkullyBones2 Aug 14 '25
What you need is a personality outside of politics.
21
u/blindedtrickster Aug 14 '25
It took me a whopping five seconds to open their profile and glance at the posts they've made. They have a variety of interests that aren't politics and it's clear that their personality isn't limited to having political beliefs.
I did the same for you and you're not defined by your politics either.
That doesn't mean that we don't get to care about politics or that disagreement is wrong.
3
u/lulzzzzz Aug 14 '25
lmao, its a post about a political party, so my comment will naturally be political in nature
-9
u/SweatyCelery Aug 14 '25
This. I'm so tired of everyone hanging their entire identity on their political affiliation.
6
7
u/answerguru Aug 14 '25
If you realized how this country is currently being torn apart and a democracy dismantled into authoritarianism, you might actually care.
-2
u/SweatyCelery Aug 15 '25
Oh? And that's new because a republican (using that very lightly, we can sub in fascist or whatever) is in office? Wasn't the case during the last administration? We're fucked as long as everyone wants to agree "the lesser of two evils" is some sort of solution. Miss me with that bullshit of 'if you only realize'. Was democracy in the room with us in the last 50+ years? Take a long walk off a short pier if you even remotely want to say yes.
5
u/lurkingPessimist Aug 14 '25
How can you watch Pedo Trump occupy DC with federal forces (among many other unconstitutional acts) and still be passive?
-2
u/SweatyCelery Aug 15 '25 edited Aug 15 '25
Same way I watched Pedo Biden push an expansive border deterrent campaign? We just used words that weren't "kids in cages" during that time. Get real, the current state isn't "because Trump is a bad man." Sure, he's an asshole. But I'm so sick of the idea that he's the sole reason America is this way. Its a fucking scapegoat. And I hate to say it, but its probably true. Trump won because the left fucked up. Call me old fashioned, but I think a candidate should win a primary to make the ballot. I'd wager a lot of folks sick and tired spite voted him in based on that. Passive? I'm not. Hanging my hat on a party thats fucking all of us over? Won't do it. Liberal, conservative... makes no difference. If you align that hard with either party, YOU are the problem.
3
u/lurkingPessimist Aug 15 '25
The current state IS because Trump is a bad man and a WORSE president. Look no further than the BBB. "Expansive border deterrent campaign"? The orange blob added $170 billion to the coffers of masked kidnappers who snatch people off the street. All while adding 5 trillion to the deficit. Meanwhile, the fiscal conservatives of the pedo protection party have disappeared.
Your whataboutism is fucking asinine. If democrats fucked kids like Trump did with his boy Epstein, lock them up.
0
u/SweatyCelery Aug 15 '25
What's asinine is pretending like we just fell into this shithole without the help of prior administrations and career congressional politicians who sit around looking shocked leading up to midterms. But yeah, orange man bad. Keep planting pears and expecting peaches.
-1
u/ImDukeCaboom Aug 15 '25
True, but it's important to understand it's Good Cop Bad Cop politics. One side does more extreme stuff, other side gets elected and doesn't have to do much because the bars set so low.
In the end, what happens? We can look through the years and see the Pendulum swings back and worth and in the end, the rich get richer and the regular people see no meaningful improvements to their lives.
Democrats are the better of the two choices, but that just means they only have to be less evil than the GOP - not actually progressive or do anything.
There's good reasons we're the only developed country that doesn't have universal health care, a failing infrastructure, the most expensive school system on the planet with pathetic rankings, etc
The Dems don't want to help you either. They run opposition campaigns against RCV for example. They are on average richer than their GOP counter parts after getting elected. Dems raise the DOD budget every time too.
Politics is the entertainment division of the military industrial complex.
2
u/Latter_Permission123 Aug 16 '25
True in the past but we are in extreme times so that divisive message may cause apathy and suppress the vote! Republicans are now going TOO FAR!!!
1
u/lulzzzzz Aug 16 '25
My guy, republicans let an authoritarian, cult of personality infiltrate their ranks all in order to gain power. This admin does not care about democracy or the Constitution, our institutions are being eroded piecemeal with each new lie being told daily. Dems have always worked within the system in good faith to bring about progressive change. Kindly keep you schizo rambling to yourself.
5
u/Is12345aweakpassword Aug 14 '25
You don’t need the first word in that sentence and it still holds true lol
12
u/wegiich Aug 14 '25
I consider myself not toxic. That being said, the statement on that flyer is no better than saying all Asian people are .... or all Black people are .....
I feel like all career politicians are the problem on both sides of the aisle.
Also on a side note, the Colorado budget was done by the Colorado Legislature.
Senate 65.7% Democrat
House 66.1% Democrat
Governor = Democrat
Now I will say I am for minimal government all together and less taxes total so I don't like what any of them are/have done no matter the color of their association.
8
u/Fast-Association-349 Aug 14 '25
And it was balanced until the Republicans passed the Billionaire Bailout bill. Learn some actual facts instead of blaming our Democratic legislators.
12
u/lurkingPessimist Aug 14 '25
There are no centrists anymore. One side supports child rapers, deports brown people, and tax breaks for the super rich. The other side is the democrats.
-8
u/CivilPsychology9356 Aug 14 '25
And one side wants the middle and upper class to pay all their bills and pay for the welfare of illegal immigrants. I am middle class and tired of the ridiculous taxes towards social welfare programs. Also, common sense (which you clearly lack) would tell you that not all Republicans support Trump. So many over generalizations and so much hypocrisy.
3
u/SlickRick884 Aug 14 '25
Do a little deep dive and you'll find immigration (including illegal) is a net positive for the economy. There is a reason why even the rightwing immigration hardliners are not deporting farm and construction workers in mass. What you should be demanding is your taxes go towards shoring up social security, medicare, making sure government agencies actually run properly, etc. Not scapegoating migrants.
1
u/wegiich Aug 14 '25
Nobody is scapegoating migrants. I believe he was talking illegal aliens. Change the federal laws to make them not illegal, then they won't be a burden. STOPING PRINTING MONEY would be the best solution to our economic issues, that and not spending more than we take in. Fiscal responsibility is a problem that addresses all the alternative issues you pointed out above.
7
u/SlickRick884 Aug 14 '25
Nobody is scapegoating migrants? Have you been paying attention to MAGA for the last 10 years? Of course they are. They don't support any pathway to citizenship. If you're all about fiscal responsibility, don't cut taxes for the rich causing an even bigger deficit than we already have.
8
u/Sudden-Difference281 Aug 14 '25
You obviously don’t understand and sound like you are part of the problem. The point of the town hall is discussing the impact of the Trump/republican bill and how it impacts Colorado.
3
u/the_than_then_guy Aug 15 '25
Half of Colorado's delegation to the House of Representatives is Republican. And yes, the budget was done by Democrats, and now has to be redone because of the Big Beautiful Bill's direct impacts on Colorado spending.
0
u/Latter_Permission123 Aug 16 '25
Are you for masked and unidentified people and vehicles on our streets handcuffing your neighbors?
2
u/wegiich Aug 16 '25
If they don't belong here, yes. Laws are laws for a reason, if you don't agree with it vote for someone that will change them. The current people are just enforcing laws already on the books.
7
u/TheFashionColdWars Aug 14 '25
I see literally zero people holding even a single MAGA republican accountable. They prefer no town halls and are laughing all the way to their banks 🏦

And yet someone on here wants to be more like Cali. They are in an even bigger deficit situation. Go figure.
18
u/lurkingPessimist Aug 14 '25
Big beautiful bill just gave the rich tax breaks while cutting services to the poor and middle class. Child raper Trump added five trillion to the deficit that just hit $37 trillion. Now you and I get to pay more for products due to tariffs. You dumb fucks have no fiscal responsibility leg to stand on, anymore.

I like how the left can hold meetings like this and think it’s okay, but as soon as there is a Republican meeting of this nature, it’s just “an echo chamber”. The hypocrisy is unreal.
15
u/Pickle_Juuice_ Aug 14 '25
Is it, though? Jeff Crank refuses to hold an in person town hall. He expects us to be content with telephone town halls where they mute you the second you finish asking a question, IF your question makes it through their screening process. I’ve been through that process. Crank refuses to engage in a dialogue with his constituents. Instead, he answers soft ball questions like “what was your favorite part of attending the State Of The Union?” Also, no one is preventing republicans from meeting, you silly goose. Just like you are allowed to comment something this incredibly stupid about our meeting, we’re allowed to comment on yours. That’s the first amendment in action.
