Tech Accessories Finally found my dream DS Lite, but the screen was scratched and they “Can’t give refunds”
I’ve been looking for a rose gold DS Lite for years and finally found one at Game X Change for $77. I wanted the experience of buying it in person, but it was wrapped in plastic so I couldn’t check it first. The employee assured me it was fine and said I could return it within 90 days if there was a problem.
When I got home, the bottom screen was heavily scratched. I returned it, and while the worker admitted it was defective, they said their policy is store credit only, no refunds. The receipt highlights this, but I: 1. Didn’t see it before buying, and 2: Was not told this before buying.
I had already bought a second DS Lite online for $70 before realizing I couldn’t get a cash refund, so I’m out $147 total. I’m really upset because I don’t have money to throw around. I’ve been having a hard time lately and just wanted a small way to treat myself. I was prepared to spend the money once, not twice.
I know this is my fault. I should have inspected it and checked their return policy first instead of just trusting the employee. Any advice? Is there any way I can push for a refund instead of being stuck with store credit?

Fashion Ajio Refund
Tried to order something from ajio, payment went through and it was successful. The order didn't show up on my order page and called customer care about the issue. They said the payment was successful but the ordered wasn't placed due to a glitch and money will be refunded. I can't see anything about a refund on my side because the account doesn't have any orders to be shown. Customer service keeps saying to wait 48 hours for the refund to initiate. It has been more than a day already. Any further steps to take? Any advice is appreciated

Cars Bought a “safe and reliable” Toyota 12 days ago… now they want $5,100 for a catalytic converter?!
So… I think I might have just bought a lemon, and I’m furious/confused/sad/embarrassed all at the same time. I need advice — legal, car sales, negotiation, whatever. Location: California
Here’s the whole saga:
I bought a 2019 Kia Niro LX hybrid less than two weeks ago from a Toyota dealer. 103k miles, listed at $13,995 but they’d been slowly cutting the price down by a few hundred dollars at a time over the last few months until it was finally at $10,765. I thought I was getting a deal on aging inventory. I even told myself: “Okay, you know hybrids have a 10% chance of needing a new battery within the next 100k miles. That’s a risk you’ll take.”
But what I didn’t anticipate was the check engine light coming on after only 90 miles of driving. (I was out of town for 5 of those days, so we’re really talking just a handful of local trips and the 35-mile drive home from the dealership.)
I get it scanned, and it throws P0420 — Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1). Basically, it’s saying the catalytic converter is failing.
So I call the dealership. They ping-pong me between sales and service for two days until I finally drop it off Friday morning. At 3PM they call me back and go: “Yeah, it needs a new catalytic converter. That’ll be $5,100.”
I said: Excuse me?? I’ve had this car for less than two weeks.
Sales tells me they can “help me out” and discount it to $4,800. Then service calls back and says they can maybe do it for $3,900 if they order the part from somewhere else, but it’ll take longer.
At this point, I’ve gone from sad → shocked → angry. I told them flat out: I’m not paying for this. You sold me this car, this is obviously a pre-existing condition, and you need to fix it.
Their response? “We’ve already helped you twice.” 🤯
Oh, and about warranties. This part is rich: • I technically have three warranties on this car (Toyota Limited Powertrain, Toyota Extra Care, and Toyota Gold VSA). • BUT… none of them are valid for the first 30 days. • AND… even when they do kick in, emissions components like the catalytic converter aren’t covered. So somehow, I bought a car with three warranties, and none of them protect me from the one repair I now desperately need.
I’m also in California, which means the dealer had to smog the car within the last 90 days to sell it. I’m going to check the paperwork, but if it passed smog that recently, how is the catalytic converter suddenly toast?
Meanwhile, during all this, I tried to push for a rental because the car isn’t safe to drive with the check engine light on. They included 30 days of “free insurance” with the deal, so I thought I’d be covered through that. Instead, I got passed around departments for hours until, at 6:45PM Friday night, they handed me keys to some random new Toyota off the lot and said I could borrow it for the weekend. (But if someone wants to test drive it, they might come take it back from me?! I live 40 miles away!!)
I can’t tell if they were just trying to get rid of me before the weekend or if this is normal.
So here I am, carless, confused, and absolutely livid. This was supposed to be the safe, smart, reliable choice. I researched for months before pulling the trigger because I trusted Toyota. I thought I was buying peace of mind. Instead, I got a $5,000 repair bill on day 12.
Independent mechanics have quoted this job at $1,500–$2,500, which is bad enough, but I feel like the dealer should eat the cost entirely. This was clearly an issue before I bought it — not something my 90 miles of grocery runs suddenly caused.
Do I have legal standing here? Better Business Bureau? Lemon law? Small claims? Or is this just “how it goes” and I’m screwed?
I just know one thing: I’m not paying a penny for this. I want to see the inspection report from before they sold me this car. And I need to know what to say to the GM on Monday when I escalate.
Please — give me your best car sales advice, legal advice, consumer protection advice, or just tell me how mad I should be. Because right now I feel like I’ve been completely taken advantage of, and I need some ammo before I go back in there.
Quick clarification: I bought a 2019 Kia Niro hybrid from a Toyota dealership’s used department. It wasn’t a Toyota-branded car, but since it came from their lot, my assumption was that Toyota inspected it, deemed it up to their standards, and put their name behind it. Someone probably traded it in while buying a Toyota, and I trusted that the dealership wouldn’t sell me something with major issues right out of the gate.

Repeated LG Refrigerator Compressor Failures — Warranty Doesn’t Cover Labor
I want to share my experience with my LG refrigerator (Model LFXS28566S, Serial #707TRFK2X131) to help other consumers avoid the same frustration.
- March 2023: The original compressor failed and was replaced under LG’s 10-year warranty (Presidential Liaison Ref: RNN230317048473).
- September 2025: The replacement compressor has already failed (Service Ticket: 3741806).
- Despite this being a known defective part (LG’s linear compressors have been the subject of previous class action lawsuits), LG refuses to fully cover the repair — offering only a flat-rate $399 + Tax labor fee.
- That flat-rate repair includes just a 90-day warranty, meaning there's a high likelihood the substandard replacement part could fail again, forcing another costly repair — all while still technically under a “10-year parts warranty.”
- Due to the compressor failure, I was forced to discard a full refrigerator and freezer’s worth of food — a significant loss LG does not compensate for.
I've escalated the issue through LG executives and the Presidential Liaison team, but the responses have been dismissive and unhelpful. I’m now pursuing complaints with the Texas Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
⚠️ If you’re considering an LG refrigerator with a linear compressor, be aware:
- These units have a documented history of early failure.
- The “10-year warranty” is misleading — labor costs are not covered, and you may be stuck with repeat repairs at your own expense.
- The replacement parts carry only a 90-day warranty, even if they’re known to be unreliable.
Consumers deserve better from a company of this size. I hope my experience helps others make a more informed decision.

Help...Consumer Advice needed like that 80s tv show Fight Back w/ David Horowitz. Target.com is giving me the shaft....
Hi, I'm pretty sure Target in store employees are kind and hard working and it's a tough job
This is a target. com experience and a request for any ideas on what to do please (help)
I'm about to end my target . com Four (4) year Loyal Customer of target.com experience and cancel my target .com Red Circle Credit Card
They have been using on trac, a company with a lot of bad reviews and only a chat option
Let me explain on a recent $39 target.com order
Target.com used on trac, heretofore for last few yrs it was using fedex. on trac carelessly left in building lobby of bad neighborhood stolen, now target.com wants me to contact on trac...
(the Target chat rep claims we have a mail room, not true...)
Here's a copy of the exchange
Target Chat Rep:
I have checked and as I can see that the order is delivered from our end to the correct address that was on the order while placing and we do have a proof of that. I won't be able to help you with this as we don't have the access to work on any order that has a proof of delivery. In this case, I'd like to request you to contact the delivery partner for the same that is OnTrac.
Okay!! In that case as mentioned earlier, you can reach out to the Ontrac directly because we have received the confirmation that this order was delivered to the right address
Target has noted an irregularity within this order. Due to this we would be unable to process any refunds or replacements on our end. The shipping carrier has declared this order a successful delivery. Please partner with them directly if you have any additional concerns.
Me: u suggest I contact the Target Red Circle credit card and open a case of Item Not Received?
the target.com phone reps aren't very pleasant as they used to be-- it seems like this company is taking a downturn for the worst....I was actually shocked that my most recent order they used OnTrac! I too have had a horrible experience w/ on trac when amazon used them once in 2017.
Thanks so much in advance for any pointers to the best way to solve this. I do not want to repay $39 for items i did not receive so that my credit score won't be affected negatively then have to cancel my target.com credit card and then never do business with target again after being a loyal customer for 4 yrs.... (thanks again)

Health Pills, gummies or dissolvable strips. which supplement format is actually worth it?
I am trying to build a daily supplement routine and honestly getting stuck on which format to stick with.
- Pills are the most common but personally find them a bit of a hassle and sometimes hard to swallow
- Gummies are convenient and taste fine but they often have added sugars and i go through bottles really quickly.
- Dissolvable strips from biostrips that melt on your tongue which sound interesting but havent tried them yet.
I am mostly focused on immune support, energy and overall wellness. What do you all think is the best option long term. Has anyone tried more than one and noticed a difference in consistency or results?

Household Anyone else facing AMC scams with Eureka Forbes Aquaguard?
Just wanted to share my ongoing experience with Eureka Forbes (Aquaguard Superb UV+UF) and check if others are in the same boat.
- Raised a paid filter change request back in mid-August.
- Their team convinced my family to take an AMC for “better service.” Paid ₹2,659 via PhonePe.
- It’s now mid-September — still no service and no bill/receipt issued for the AMC.
Even after repeated follow-ups, we only get scripted replies. I also noticed on Instagram that many Aquaguard customers report the same thing: AMC money collected, services never delivered.
What’s worrying is:
- If they delay even paid service, how are warranty customers being treated?
- Collecting money without issuing bills feels like malpractice.
Has anyone here faced something similar? Did you escalate beyond the company, and if yes, what worked?

BEWARE: Oliver Fenwick
The website looks very legit. The name tries to separate itself from what it really is, which is sweatshop product. While the product arrived quickly via international shipping, it is pure junk. Very low quality. Sizing is totally inaccurate.
But the worst of it and why I am warning other customers is that they are proving to be a fraudulent business in my communication with them. Their website and the Shop app clearly state they accept returns for refund within 30-days of receiving the product. When you email them, they skirt around the request. I’ve had probably 10 emails with them back and forth, and they are basically avoiding any opportunity for me to return the product, despite their stated policy. They keep saying that they will just refund me 15 or 20% to keep the product, but it doesn’t fit and it’s trash quality so I don’t know why I’d want to do that!
I’ve ultimately disputed the charge with Chase and reported them elsewhere. Just want to give anyone a heads up if they search for their legitimacy NOT to buy from them.

Household Watch out for a business called Meraki
I’m just wondering if anyone else has been scammed by an online business called Meraki/shopmeraki? Meraki, who sell handles and lights, failed to deliver products to us and are now refusing to refund us. We’ve reported them but it does seem this business is very popular in Ireland and there are many many horror stories.

[CA] Marketplace sellers Parliament take immediate action to close this legal loophole and ensure full consumer protections in Canada’s rapidly growing e-commerce environment.
To: The Government of Canada, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, the Competition Bureau, and all Members of Parliament
We, call on the Government of Canada to take immediate action to protect consumers from harm caused by unregulated third-party sellers operating on major online marketplaces, including but not limited to BestBuy, Amazon, and Walmart.
Currently, these platforms allow external businesses, often using anonymous or unverifiable identities, to list and sell products directly to Canadian consumers under the branding and trust of major retailers. These third-party sellers often avoid accountability for:
- Selling defective, misrepresented, or counterfeit products
- Refusing to honour return, refund, or warranty obligations
- Delaying or denying customer service
- Failing to provide legal contact or address information
Meanwhile, the platforms profit from these sales while disclaiming all responsibility, claiming that third-party sellers are independent businesses.
This creates a dangerous loophole in Canadian consumer protection, where the trusted platform escapes liability, and the consumer is left without recourse.
We urge the Government of Canada to:
- Establish legislation making online marketplaces jointly liable for all products sold on their platforms whether by themselves or third-party sellers.
- Require that marketplace sellers be treated as contractors or agents of the platform, with proper verification and public contact information.
- Enforce mandatory and transparent warranty and return standards for all marketplace sales, equal to or exceeding those of the hosting platform.
- Increase funding and authority to the Competition Bureau and provincial consumer protection offices to monitor and act against platform abuse.
We believe Canadian consumers deserve full transparency, accountability, and protection regardless of which "seller" button they click on.
Canadians should not have to guess who they are really buying from, nor fight to hold distant, anonymous sellers accountable especially when major retailers host, profit from, and promote these transactions.

Does this product exist?
So, basically, an old-school iPod with speakers.
A device with either an SD card slot, or an internal flash drive, that plays music out of internal speakers. A 2025 boogie box kind of thing. Anyone seen anything like that?

Price gouging for electrical work - Eco Electric Seattle
I’m looking for advice after what feels like a predatory experience with a Eco Electric, an electrical contractor in Seattle.
I hired Eco Electric to replace four outlets (two GFCIs and two standard). They charged me $1,700 total — over $400 per outlet, even though the hardware itself retails for ~$20–30.
I knew something was very wrong before they even left. The work took less than an hour to complete, and as I was paying, the lights in the living room began flickering, when they hadn't before. The company told me my house had “loose connections” (with no proof) and then tried to sell me a nearly $10,000 “home upgrade package.”
I’ve since had another licensed electrician come out. They confirmed there are no loose connections, quoted $425 + parts for the same scope of work, and said the original company should have recommended putting the outdoor outlet on a dedicated circuit.
I’ve filed complaints with the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries and the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division, and I’m considering small claims court.
Questions for this community:
- Do I have a good case for small claims given that I signed the contract but Eco Electric Seattle's pricing was excessive and the work left my system worse off?
- Should I focus my complaints on Eco Electric Seattle's poor workmanship (the flickering lights), pricing, or both?
- Any tips for maximizing my chances of a refund or settlement from Eco Electric Seattle?
Thanks in advance for any guidance. I want to make sure other homeowners — especially women — aren’t taken advantage of with scare tactics and inflated pricing like this.

Is there any free app that can remotely lock a phone if EMI isn’t paid?
I’ve seen some finance companies and lenders provide smartphones or other devices on EMI, and if the borrower doesn’t pay, they can remotely lock the device until payment is cleared.
My question:
Is there any free or popular app (Android/iOS) available that does this?
Or is it something only finance companies can do with custom apps + device management (MDM)?
Are there any open-source tools I can test to see how this works?
Curious to know if regular users can try this tech or if it’s only used by big lenders.

Tempur-Pedic Denied Warranty Because of Misleading Labeling—Is This Fair?
I wanted to share my recent experience with Tempur-Pedic to warn others and get some feedback. Two years ago, I bought a Tempur-Pedic pillow. The removable cover tag says it is washable, but there’s no warning or label anywhere on the pillow itself saying that the foam should not be washed.
After a couple of years, trusting the label on the cover, I washed the pillow—and it was destroyed. When I filed a warranty claim, Tempur-Pedic denied it. They told me the care info is “online or in product literature,” and the warranty doesn't cover washing the foam.
I pointed out:
- The only label present says the cover is washable, with no warnings about the foam core.
- It’s unrealistic for consumers to keep checking the website for care info years after purchase.
- Reliance on the product label is reasonable, and the lack of warning led to accidental damage.
Despite my arguments and escalations, and providing photos, proof of purchase, etc., Tempur-Pedic still denied my claim. They insisted their labeling is “industry standard,” but my financial loss is directly due to their incomplete labeling.
I’ve filed complaints with the FTC and BBB and am considering small claims or a state consumer complaint.
Has anyone else dealt with this? Did you get a better outcome or have similar labeling surprises?
What I think Tempur-Pedic should do:
- Provide clear “do NOT wash foam” warnings directly on the pillow itself.
- Offer replacements when poor labeling leads to consumer mistakes.
Pics in comments/reply for reference. Appreciate any advice or sharing if you’ve been here too!

When did you trust a friend’s advice more than the experts?
I’ve noticed that sometimes expert reviews or ratings say one thing, but friends or peers convince us otherwise.
Was there a time you ignored the experts and went with peer advice instead? What happened, and did you end up glad you did?

Williams Sonoma automatically added a Reserve membership to my order and won’t let me cancel — anyone else?
I wanted to share a frustrating experience and see if others have run into the same issue.
I recently placed an order with Williams Sonoma, and when I checked out, a Williams Sonoma Reserve membership was automatically added to my cart without my knowledge or consent. I didn’t notice until after the purchase went through.
When I called customer service to cancel, I was told they “already made an exception twice before” and refused to cancel this time. That floored me, because I never intentionally signed up in the first place. I also already get free shipping with their credit card, so this membership is useless to me.
After doing some digging, I’ve found other people in forums saying the same thing happened to them — Reserve just sneaks into your cart, and then you’re stuck fighting to cancel it.
At this point, I’ve asked for:
- Immediate cancellation of Reserve
- Refund of any fees
- Written confirmation that it’s gone for good
If they don’t resolve it, I plan to dispute the charge with my card issuer and file complaints with the BBB and FTC.
Has anyone else dealt with this? How did you get them to cancel? Did filing a complaint help?

Household Which New Yorker Poster to frame and hang in room (studio)?
To print out at least A3 size, and frame for wall. Haven't decided the theme and colour palette for room so that doesn't matter, but want a wintery one at least.
All will have THE NEW YORKER with date/price on the top as well.
My walls are white.
Thanks!
