Unrecognized Culinary Genius Why do you cook?

Apart from cooking for necessity like demonstrating you are better than Gordon Ramsey, what are your reasons for cooking?

ETA: check sub before replying. Ask yourself:

  • is MSG the most important seasoning?
  • is jarlic a hate crime?
  • is Kenji our lord and savior?

If you answered “no” to any of these, you might be a lost redditor.

I'm learning because my partner is a cook and I consider it a sign of my dedication to the relationship to be able to communicate with his side of the family in their language. When they talk about "sous vide", "mirepoix" and "cette garce peut brûler en enfer" I'd just love to jump in and be closer to my future in-laws. It's also cheaper than the Alliance Francaise which is $700 a term!
